Input Monitoring with Guitar Port
Can Someone help me please - Im running sonar 3 at the moment, and trying to use guitar port 2 to record guitar. Im using an Maudio Delta 1010 as a sound card. I can record ok, but cant monitor as im recording. I have tried using the input monitor button in the channel track, but all I get is a horrible noise, almost resembling a very bad guitar through a delay pedal - almost feed back but not quite. I have tried going to the options-audio-input monitoring tab, as suggested by the cakewalk website and the in built help, but my version does not seem to have this tab. can anyone help with monitoring while recording please with this setup please. Thanks Adam

Make sure apply dither is pressed. Lower your latency as far as it will go without dropping out or crackling during playback. Make sure you are in 16/44 for new projects. Run the wave profiler. Now you should be able to move up to 24 bit in the audio engine. I can't get it to work with a sample rate higher than 44 though. On a side note: It would be alot easier to use the monmixer in the delta ctrl panel to monitor though.

It just occurred to me: Are you using the Guitarport on the same computer that S3 is installed on? The suggestion above was assuming you were. If it is on a seperate computer then it's an issue you'll have figure out with the 1010.

Make sure apply dither is pressed Apply dither takes resources and will not make any difference while input monitoring. Dithering only needs to be activated when you export your file. Eric

I only know what works, not why. If it only works during export then why is it using resources when not exporting?

It uses CPU whenever you're playing back too. If you just want to run a guitar (say) through an effect, there's no need to have it checked.

ORIGINAL: digipenguin If it only works during export then why is it using resources when not exporting? I didn't say it only works during export, I said you only need it during export. Dither cleans up distortion as extremely low volume levels (like as a reverb fades away). Many people cannot even hear the effect it has, but when you are mastering, its important Eric

Thanks Adam If you are using ASIO drivers you can only access one sound card at a time, So if you start S3 first and GP second you will not hear the GP output. If you switch your drivers to WDM you will be able to here the GP as well as S3.
