TWO Problems w/ 6.2 and Vista...

Hey all,

I bought a brand new Core-Duo Vista laptop today for (mixing only) with Sonar.

So I did a brand new install of 6.0 Producer and then applied the 6.2 patch straight away before running Sonar for the first time.

Problem 1) The wave profiler insists that, "either your sound device is in use by another program or is incompatible". Hmmm, well, I'm pretty sure it's not in use. It's the usual Raltek HD device by the way, like I say, I only want to use this for mixing. I've tried the usual restarts ect. Same problem.

Problem 2) In Vista I cannot enter my authorise code because it's saying I'm "not logged in as addministator". So, how does one go about doing that in Vista?

Any help on either / or would be great.

Cheers!

Problem one is because you have the Realtek HD drivers installed. Microsofts own drivers that come with Vista apparently work, whereas Realteks dont. Apparently MS updated the Realtek ones prior to release.

Problem 2 Im not entirely sure about sorry.

    Thank you syrath!

Getting shut of the Realtek drivers in Vista was not easy. Every time I uninstalled them, Vista would do the good nanny thing and reinstall them upon reboot (arghhhh!).

So I found where my OEM (Acer) had placed the drivers and deleted them. This forced Vista to install the Microsoft driver automatically. These problems are exactly why I always build and configure PC's myself. Unfortunately, with a laptop one has no choice but to buy from an OEM.

Oh, and I found that right-clicking on the Sonar shortcut brings up "run as administrator". So I'm all good to go now.

    Thanks again.

Not only does he fix his own problem, but he comes back and posts the solution.

    Nice work!
