Audio Input not recognized in SONAR

I searched the FAQ and the forum topics for this problem, and didn't find anything, though I can't imagine nobody has asked this question. So if a thread exists, sorry for the inconvenience.

As a new owner of SONAR 6, I tried to record yesterday. I borrowed my friend's USB mic, and plugged it in. I tested it with Sound Recorder, and it works fine. The computer recognizes it, yadda yadda yadda. But when I open SONAR, and I go to select an audio input, I see my sound card listed and a USB device listed....but it doesn't let me select them. It looks like this:

When I mouse-over either of those two inputs, it should let me select the device, no? It has those black > arrows, so some options should pop out. But nothing does. So I basically can't select any recording inputs.

Thanks for the help.

go into options>audio click on the drivers tab, enable your in and out drivers. click ok. close the program, re-open, should be there...

also be sure to boot your computer with your audio devices on

    hope that helps-

I think the track's I/O dropdown would be empty if no drivers were selected, but then again it don't hurt to check! Deleting the AUD.ini file would be an idea here, too.

I haven't even tried recording, because it doesn't think I have any inputs for recording. So that's not the issue.

I'll try all of your other suggestions soon, though. Thanks.

I guess we both just fell off the turnip truck! LOL When you arm a track, it automagically assigns an input port. Based on what happens when you arm a track for recording an important clue could be gained.

When I arm a track for recording (by pressing the R button) I get the same exact situation as in the picture I posted in my first post. I don't notice any difference.

When I go to Options>Audio>Drivers, all 3 things there are now selected. 2 Inputs (my soundcard and the mic) and 1 Output (my soundcard).

I also often get an error message that says "You have not selected any MIDI outputs. This means you may not hear any MIDI tracks playback." If I choose "Choose MIDI Outputs Now", the only option there is Microsoft MIDI Mapper, and if I select that and press OK, it just gives me the error again, "You have not selected...." I don't know if this is relevant or not, but it's damn annoying.

Also, I just tried importing a wav file into the default Audio 1 track, in a new project. When I pressed play, it wouldn't play. Like it didn't have an output or something. So blah.

what sound card do you have, if it has midi in and outs you should be able to select them. Unless you have an onboard sound card. If you do you might wanna go to your local music store and pick up a audio sound card.

I just have my SoundMAX sound card, came standard with my laptop model. When I had SONAR 5, I had no problems like this. I just don't get why it doesn't let me select an input.

I'll also note that last night, I reinstalled SONAR 6 with my USB mic plugged in (and my sound card was obviously in). When it finished installing, it said it had to scan my I/O devices (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about) and it found both my sound card and the USB device, and tested what frequencies they could handle. So it knows about them, but as you can see from the picture in my original post, I just can't actually select anything.

You might try changing the driver type in Options, Audio, on the Advanced tab where it says Driver Mode, there may be other options available, ASIO, MME, WDM. I think I just helped someone the other day with the same issue.

    Play On.

Hm, none of those appeared to work (on the ASIO option, it didn't even display any I/O devices at all).

I re- read this thread, IMO, re-install the latest Sound Max driver, then go back to Driver Mode, and try again. Also, make sure your Shell Hardware Detection service (Windows service) is set to Automatic.

    Play On.

It is "Automation Read" and it was turned on by default.
