Yup! Take another look at the little icons for each track in the track list pane, that looks like a pair of 1/8 notes.  You can enable or disable the view of the notes in that track.  So you can either see all tracks side by side in color coded fashion, or select just one or more part(s) when selecting notes to edit.

I actually spotted the Hide and Lock buttons in the Track Pane right after that. LOL :)
Noted!

Alright! I believe this will make the work a lot easier. As you also said in your post, part of the task is learning how the DAW works and adapting to that. I just knew there was an easier way to select a track and finally wondered, "How does everybody select a track!?" (After all, I don't record any instruments, I do all straight note editing from PRV.)

I used Voyetra Digital Orchestrator back in '96, and once I purchased Cakewalk Music Creator, I knew the interface would be much different... :)

Hey, that's a big LOL!!!  I found Voyetra Digital Orchestrator on sale at Computer City, way back then.  It was my first DAW, and my first regrettable software purchase.  It looked cool though, LOL!

I once spent an entire weekend with that recording the guitar and vocals for a song my buddy was writing for his wife.  At one point late in the session, we were almost finished.  The program crashed, corrupted the files, and there was absolutely no recovery.  Big ughh!!!

That is why I bought Cakewalk Professional 6, and have never looked back!  My buddy was so traumatized, that he bought a dedicated hard disk recorder, and has stuck with that for 20 years!

Good luck with Artist, I'm sure you will like it!

Thank you very much! :)

I used DO until '03, and then I was drawn to Cakewalk's products ten years later. Albeit challenging, I don't want that to disrupt the realization of my ideas, because it's the most amazing DAW I've ever used. I also later purchased Digital Sound Factory's 19-pack of instruments...and that's another story. I don't want to overwhelm myself in instrument selection and drum kits, so to make it easier, I simply dropped Roland GrooveSynth, DropZone and Rapture Sessions from my radar in favor of Sound Center, Studio Instruments, and TTS-1. (BUT...that's just me.)

Now considering my work is mainly PRV note editing (I cannot read/write music), I can imagine my projects will take that much longer. But I'm slowly but surely learning how to accommodate the Sonar interface to my style and make everything as straightforward as possible.

Speaking of convenience and simplicity, I also enjoy the option to change to the classic color scheme (Tungsten was too dark), color-coding the Tracks, and creating my own Plug-in Layout (per the Insert-Soft Synth menu)... :)

Thanks again for your guys' help! :)

I understand that instrument selection can be time consuming.

But I have found the AIR Xpand!2 to be a great go-to instrument, when I am trying to set something up.  It is still on sale for $1 until the end of the month.  It has 2500 sounds, so pretty much anything you would need in one VST.

Plus it is four part multi-timbral, so you can route 4 MIDI tracks to 4 different voices in one VST instance, like with TTS-1, except that it's not General MIDI.  But it has better sounds!  For a buck, it's a no-brainer to get started with!

CHUCKEBABY:
In the image I posted, that right-click menu indeed came from the Track Pane clips work area. It dropped downward from where my mouse pointer was.

I have no idea what you have going on in the track field in the main TV are. it almost appears as if you have the edit filter turned to inline PRV view for all these tracks, which is a bit baffling to be honest considering you appear to want to work on these tracks in the PRV. (in the MD)

TV is normally black or grey when there is no data. those tracks should be blank, and when right clicking on an empty area in the TV you should get a pop up context menu with many different options / including views.
