Janet: Pat is quite the lyricist. I send her a few lines of an idea and a melody and she comes back very often in less than a day with a really solid concept. This was no exception... then we throw ideas back and forth a few times.

Fine job, Herb both on playing and writing. I am sorry for whatever heartache hit Philip and his family. Truly a nice person. you too! Great tune! I want to listen again and concentrate on the words. First time through never clicks for me. I hear some of them that really ring true.

Herb, Very nice work. Love the acoustic tones you are tracking in this tune. Lyrics are really well done, you guys make a great team. I have not heard any news on Philip, so sorry to hear there has been a tradgedy in his family. My prayers go out to him.

I love the guitars on the intro Herb. I would have bled things in? The bass, an organ, a piano... A mandolin? The drums. But I lean toward over production.

Herb – real, real nice. Totally “you” with elements of Neil Young, Graham Parsons and Willie N. Somber for sure but a fine, heartfelt performance. I like this recording a lot also – maybe it’s the sparse instrumentation – not sure. The simple but effective guitar riffs really add to this. The vocal is the star though – it really makes this tune stand out. Great job.

BOTR: Of all people.... I can't believe YOU are telling me it needed to have organ, piano, mando, and other stuff like (gulp) drums, blended in....  The one time I put out an almost 100% me and nothing else.... the only synth is the acoustic upright bass....... and you tell me I should have MORE production in it? I will never figure it out.... I feel like my dog.... when he thinks I threw the ball, and he runs out about 80 feet and stops, looking around for where the ball went.  Benzo: thanks... I wrote you an essay PM.... KISS, that's the answer. Manny: yeah, I decided just to KISS on this tune.... as I started to record it I actually had some of the stuff that BOTR was talking about but muted it all....even using the metronome (did I just say that?) to keep time as I recorded the 4 tracks....well I think the first 2 anyway. I really liked how it was sounding with just acoustics so I kept heading in that direction deciding to only add the upright bass at a low level. The singing.... I was goofing around with that style, and realized it sounded pretty earthy, and gritty, and decided to let it stay. All in all, it was a cool song to write with Pat... the whole goal was to get and to keep the emotional feel to the song. I loved doing this so much.

I was saddened to hear of what happened to Philip. Times like those are tough to get a handle on. Its great a friend like you made a song for him.

Hi Herb, Beautiful tune and warm performance. Nice, simple arrangement and your playing is way better then the BIABox approach. LOVE the chord change at 1:38 & 3:14. Lyrics are very well written and the raw deliver just adds to the one on one vibe. What kind of verb/delay are you usung on the lead accoustic. Sounds GREAT! One of your best Ive heard from the team of Bishop & Hartley. KUDOS! Kev P.S. Kinda getting a EAGLES vibe from this piece. I could hear Don Henley singing this.

Starise: No disrespect intended, however I didn't write the song for Philip's situation, I just thought that it fit, after I wrote it, and therefore dedicated it to him. Kev: I agree. I think I will work on more tunes like this.... I use the cakewalk Studio verb2 set to dark plate, 15% or so...maybe less....I just got in from a long day out of town, but I'll be glad to post the exact details on that verb tomorrow morning. marcos69: I love the sound of the Taylor. It has made me WANT to play acoustic again just to hear that rich sound.
