Bumping this one because...

This plug has solved decades of noise problems for me. Regarding being able to set up a compressor, eq the output and put a credible gate after it before the fuzz box. All in one unit. Guitar on the front end.

This thing rocks. Can retire my former love Nomad Liquid Gate because the Evantide has half as many knobs and is twice better.

Saturation is generic and nothing to die for. The delay is meh in the face of Timeless, Sigmund, Bob Papen, but useful.

The Micro Pitch Shift is a very clean, transparent depth tool. Think of a chorus without the time mod.

Some warrior here recently posted about the five new Plug and Mix stomps. These were a letdown to me, but Plug and Mix still has the Facebook like offer for a free plug.

Point of this, and check it out...

Evantide Ultra Channel into the likes of P&M's British Tone. Santana PRS smooth out here even with a bastardized yard sale Peavey Raptor.  Allah only knows what you could do with a real guitar. Evantide into Head Case, just beginning to get the thrill.

Free route to gold otherwise. Evantide and P&M. Links here. Never thought I'd be hawking an Ilok thing, but it is that good.

Hey guys - I feel a bit slow and could use your help. This is my first attempt in using iLok software. I downloaded and registered my iLok manager software, I have also downloaded and activated my free Eventide Ultrachannel plugin (at least iLok software says it is activated on my laptop). But, I can't find this product anywhere in Sonar X3 or even on my Windows 8 system. Have I missed a step somewhere? Well, I WAS slow - missed one step! Working fine now. Thanks for your help anyway. I take it you downloaded the plugin from the link in the email you got? That's what I did.

When it installed, at first it didn't show up, so I reinstalled and noticed they installed in c:\program files\common files\steinberg\vst or something like that. I have no vst's in that path. I put them in a different place where my other plugs are. Maybe this happened for you too.

Thanks Jimbo! That did help me resolve the issue. I was looking for my VSTs to make sure I had not installed it elsewhere and realized I had done all the installs except .... the VST! OUCH! It was a PICNIC issue - Problem In Chair, Not In Code. LOL!

"PICNIC"... That's a new one for me. At least the term, but not the actual condition.

I downloaded and just installed - tried it on some acoustic guitar - I have to say I loved it for the mico pitch effect plus some eq etc - the delay's not bad either although I think I would use one of my others if I was doing this for real sort of thing.
But absolutely excellent for a freebie - i can see this getting some use

My prefered ones for that are "Layer 8 issue" and "ID 10T error."

Layer 8 referring to the OSI network model which goes from Layer 1 (physical hardware) to Layer 7 (application). So I figure the next layer is users :D.

ID 10T is pretty obvious :D.

Don't sweat the License Manager, Mesh. With all due respect to those that object to Ilok license manager, I have it installed on my 32 bit Vista mobile system and my 64 bit main system. It's basically a TSR(is that still a valid term?) and sits quietly in the background talking and reporting to the iLok home servers.

Fixed.

While I don't think I'd install PACE software just to get this plugin, for those of us who already rock the 'Lok, it's a good freebie.  I've tried it with good results in a parallel fx bus for vox to add a little spice.  But I was most impressed with what it did for lead guitar ... the delay and microshift really wowed me.  Yes, I could probably duplicate the effect with other tools, but not as quickly and easily.  Thanks, Eventide!

Cheers,
Eddie

Um, no. That's BS, and you guys should quit being so paranoid. The only communication is when a new license is downloaded.
The server is readily available, but not actively engaged. For the most part, my DAW machine is not online.

But there is no need to be connected to the internet to use the software once it's authorized/the license has been downloaded. So there isn't much difference between that and IK's authorization manager and the likes.

Not saying iLove iLock or anything, but it does make setting up a new computer very easy. No need to scurry around looking for passwords and reauthorizing and running out of authorizations etc. I recently set up a new system and it was very convenient. I keep my installers on one stick (as well as registry keycodes from PSP and Fabfilter) and then the iLok does the rest- SSL, Softube,Slate, Izotope, Melodyne etc.

They have this new thing called Theft loss Coverage (30 bucks a year) which I use too. This means you connect to the iLok server once every three months or else your licenses stop working. If your dongle gets stolen the iLok people will mail you a new one with all your licenses on it and the stolen one will stop working at the end of the three month period.

Crowned One
Had my first quick look at it, all very usable and quick to pickup.

What I like so far:
Seems to be quite low CPU hit which is good for a channel strip.
Pitch shift sounds nice.
EQ is reasonable not the best I have heard but fine for basic tasks
Like the drag and drop modules.
Nice GUI.

For free this is a great plugin, bringing lots to the table.

I finally got the plug-in downloaded and installed, and spent a little time last night poking around in it, and I have a similar impression. I haven't tried the pitch shift yet, but for a channel strip plug-in it's quite nice. The UI is easy to navigate and intuitive, EQ is no FabFilter but it's OK, low CPU/memory usage, and lots of options and presets to get started. I like that the UI is larger as compared to ProChannel - that's one of my complaints about PC. It would be a nice plug-in for $50-$75, but really a cool deal for free.

As I mentioned earlier, I've been one who avoids all things iLok, but the Ilok License Manager installed painlessly and accepted the license and validated the software with no glitches. It runs in the background but doesn't use a lot of CPU/memory resources, so I guess I'm (reluctantly) admitting that it's not as bad as previous iLok software. YMMV.

It really doesn't seem to be terribly busy.
This screen shot was taken while I was on the Internet, and the licensed product was running in X3.
I'm all for due diligence, but it seems to me that the iLok License Manager is getting an undeserved bad rap.
I have no experience with earlier iLok stuff, but it apparently left a bad taste for lots of folks.

Ruben, what rubbed me the wrong way was changing my words in the quote. That's fine when we are horsing around in the Coffee House, but not in a moderately serious discussion. If you have something to add, make it your words, not mine, ok?
i totally agree with your assessment of the pricing. At $50-75, I would probably buy this plug-in. At $259, it is out of reach, and I wouldn't even consider it. Maybe there are plenty of people who could justify that. I don't know.
But i believe a significantly lower price would increase sales exponentially. This is definitely one of the better plug-ins that I have gotten a hold of, and I feel fortunate to have gotten it for free. It is well on its way to becoming one of those "every project" plug-ins.

I can envision that kind of usage as well - the more I use it the more I like it.

I know that Eventide has announced the price of this plug-in after the free offer, but I suspect that, in addition to being beta testers, UltraChannel users are a test bed to help Eventide determine the best price so I won't be surprised if UltraChannel gets a price reduction after the free offer.

Just out of curiosity for those with much more money then me, is this the typical quality of FX plugins in the 250$ range? Not including things like SD 2 or Melodyne and virtual instruments, just FX type plugins.

Re: Free Eventide Plugin UltraChannel Through July 8 2014/06/24 02:18:08 (permalink)
I would venture to say it probably is.
What I question is whether the market can sustain plug-ins like this priced at $250.
Make on mistake, this is a very nice program. And it may be worth $250.
But it remains that many of us don't have that to throw at a plug-in.
I've just had a look at the pricing on Cakewalk's PC modules. They're mostly doable.
In light of that, and what UltraChannel covers, I might go $100, maybe $125 on a push. But I couldn't do $259.
For every person that could justify $259, there are probably ten or more that could justify $100.
I want to see these developers continue. I don't want to see them price themselves out of a sustainable income.
I value their time and effort, and we all need to eat.

I think Eventide did a smart thing offering a decent plug-in for free for those that have been reluctant to check out the new dongle-less iLok. It was painless and the plug-in is not that bad. Make a restore point, if the software proves unsatisfactory, remove it all.

I decided to put it on a computer I can just wipe if necessary. My opinion (and I am very much anti-ilok) is it's a quality plugin.  I like it more than The channel plugin in the bluetubes bundle but less than VC-64.  Being tha tVC-64 is no longer offered that gives this a big boost. I could probably get similar functionality with right combo of pro channel plugs .  I think for those who don't have pro channel or a go to preset fx chain, this is a nice one-stop solution for basic channel needs.  I think I am so spoiled by having the quadcurve eq in pro channel that another channel type eq would be pointless for me.  I am curious to try this in my video editor since the plugins in that are very weak.

Yes. Get it, Kenny.
I was just coming in here to bump this because time is indeed running out.
I love what this plug-in has brought to the table.
I have used it for a few weeks, and it brings a little sweetness to every track I use it on.
Trust me, you're gonna like it.
As stated earlier, the iLok License Manager is no more intrusive than the schemes used by IK and others.
It's basically set and forget.
Go for it.

OK kids, I'm going to bump this one last time.
Personally, I think they were crazy to offer this for free, but they did. After tomorrow, it's regular price($259).
