I am a  SPLAT Lifetime Member ( I think ; LOL) 
But I downloaded this program ...at your suggestion..... out of curiosity and instinct .
I Had Home Studio back in the 90s.
Must say I was pleasantly surprised at its quality.
I am contemplating retaining this as my 'Performance Midis' editor.
It is simple and effective.
Stupid question perhaps: Does its operation rely on Online authorization as SPLAT does?
I suspect not.

Drinking my last beer of the day, so may or may not pass on cardinal information.
There should be no limitation in Sonar by design to use the ASIO4all driver. Saddest, worse case scenerio would be trying to wrap a generic motherboard Realtek soundcard driver with ASIO to get a few less millisec of latency. Lipstick on a pig thing.
Otherwise, your specific soundcard may not recognize ASIO4all, but require a hardware specific driver package. Sonar is open minded and up to speed, wanting to harness anything you got on your motherboard or in a Pci slot if the hardware supports it. Problem is likely downstream and nothing to do with any limitation imposed by Sonar.

edit.  Uh, fly off the handle too often before reading the post in depth. Michael, was not your problem.

I'm using the  ASIO drivers that came with it, with my Steinberg UR-22. Doing midi, works great. I may be able to switch from 8.5 Studio. I'll use it awhile and see which has a better workflow for me. At first blush, it seems that SHS sounds better. Audio Engine, or just that things are not configured exactly the same? That's another thing to determine.
 
Edit: They sound exactly the same, it was the configuring thing.

This is still working, I think my links have created a back door,You don't even need to go to the web site just enter the redemption code on the Cakewalk page. 
Now I have 3 copies :)  Ya , I know, pointless but I just can't pass up a freebie!

Yes, it uses same format, I just opened a PLAT CWP file in HS no problem.

I tried adding a 2nd to my existing account, but it told me I already owned it, LOL!
 
So I guess one per account should work! 

I explained this somewhere else bu I'll repeat for those who are not as smart as I am :) 
 
As Abacab mentioned you cannot own multiple copies per Cakewalk account. And even so if you want to give this to someone else they should be using a different cakewalk account. You certainly don't want to be handing out passwords to anybody, even your dog.  
So what you need is 2 things.
Another Cakewalk account, which to create also requires another e mail address. 
Cakewalk accounts are what we use to log on to this forum and you don't need to have ever purchased anything to belong. You can even open an account using your friends name or Bozo the clown, don't matter. 
 
You can have as many copies of this as you have Cakewalk user log ons. I have 3 because I forgot a password and the email I had used was no longer. Later on I found my password That's my johnnyv which is pretty obvious that it's the same person. I also have an alias I created one day just for fun. I leave you to figure that one out :)

One of the reasons why I avoided Pro Channel Plugins as much as possible.

As Pro Channel Plugins are just VST's with a skinned UI you would hope they would just get converted into a standard VST plugin when imported into hosts that do not support Pro Channel, and maybe vice versa.

And then there never was a VST for the Pro Channel EQ.

Thanks Cactus Music - this really good news for me. I've wanted a stripped down version just for playback from a Laptop and didn't want to save off entire projects in another format. Maybe just export some stem files and a few midi tracks for learning tools for others. Appreciate the link.

Home Studio is limited to 64 tracks, 8 busses, and no patch points or aux tracks.
 

 
Ya, there you go,,  I've never gone past 16 tracks, Never had more than 4 busses and Have never needed the aux tracks. 
 
RBH- This is exactly why I bought it a year ago when they first introduced it and it was on sale for $30. 
I was, and am,  planning on trying the Sonar Playlist for live playback of backing tracks. I'm almost there and I have about 60 songs ready but want all 100+ if I can. Sonar PLat has always made me nervous stability wise and is way overkill for this. Home Studio is just perfect.  
I will be using 4 audio outs and midi to trigger my effects. 
So I'm setting up each project with 4 busses. It's a lot more work than I thought it would be as I keep tweaking everything to death....
 
 

Thanks, Looks like they extended it. Funny thing is they are giving something away but I don't even know who or what. Seems pointless to give stuff away whithout at least getting our e mail or something. It asks for email or Facebook but I noticed a little timer which then it ran down and by passed that page. I guess I cheated them by posting the redemtion code. 

So, I used the code, redeemed and downloaded it, and have a serial number. Haven't felt a need to install at this time.  Question I have is on activation. Is the SN enough, or do you get a Registration number like the old days, or is it just like the current Splat version?
