There are people here, Like Danny, who will give remote lessons.

http://www.dannydanzi.com/home.htm

I took a lesson from him and it was money well spent.

You might post some MP3s of your music so people know what type of music you are trying to mix. That might lead you to a teacher that specializes in the type of sound you're working towards.

The forum isn't really geography specific. If you need urgent help locally, you might reach out to your local music stores. They may know the good talent in your area or be able to refer you to local studios.

I know my Guitar Center Sales Personnel by name and really like them. When I come in on lunch breaks with a CD to listen to, they wave and give fist bumps and send me into the monitor room to try the mix on all the monitors. We've even talked about doing a white noise test in their monitor room to assess EQ Settings (haven't gotten there yet). They're great. And they definitely don't have a bad word about anything I'm up to... least of all Sonar, a DAW they sell!! I got my RME there. I buy locally when I can. I'm very grateful for all of them (thanks GC people!!).

4 GB is what I used for years on dual core laptop. It wasn't great, to tell the truth. Will you augment with midi? If so, consider going up to 8 GB Ram.

But frankly, since you are mixing offline, it's just a matter of how long it will take you to bounce it. You can do it with your current machine, it'll just take longer than something faster. That's all.

I don't know... you got a slot open? Oh wait... you're using a 32 bit OS. Not worth the trouble then. Stick with your 4 GB until you can come up to speed. 8 GB on a 32 bit OS doesn't do you any good. Heck, the four is barely usable in its entirety and you will probably be unable to access most (half?) of it while you bounce your tracks.

In your specs you say you have a 32bit OS. Any RAM over 4G would be inaccessible

Re: New X2 user in Kansas seeks private instruction on learning mixing and mastering 2013/07/28 23:22:45 (permalink)
Which guy said that?

Personally, I'm starting to think your biggest obstacle isn't your gear.

I used Cakewalk to mix projects recorded on an Tascam 2488 before I learned to record in the computer itself. It worked fine on a 32 Bit OS (for me that was back in the Windows XP days - I went x64 with Vista (and John... remember them days, John?)).

Smiles.

So, you can do it... plus... since you aren't capturing the waves with Sonar, why not give it a try? And since you seem to have no experience with any Daw at all, you can try them all with equal talent. :-) See what works for you before you make a big time investment.

Trust me, the time investment is way more costly than the software itself.

WCEdgar, clearing the thread in which I've been helping you for a long time now was not very nice.

It's taking some serious restraint to try to tell you this next thing, so listen if you can...

Sonar is a great Digital Audio Tool. You should give it a chance if you like music.

And, I just have to add, that for the past hours, while I bounced down 3 hours of music, I have been HELPING YOU every time I was rendering.

Just saying.

Geoff you did everything right.  And so did all the others that came in to offer help.  If you were referring to me in the post I do remember well.

To the original poster. What you have done here is rude in a very big way. No one likes talking to themselves and that is what it looks like now.  We leave things as they are even when its wrong because it helps with credibility down the line. I wish you had asked us if it was OK to delete your posts first. From now on you may find members are reluctant to help.

Best

Yes, John, I was talking to you in the thread. :-) I thought you might see it sometime. :-)

And I only mentioned using other DAWs to try them because he was being grouchy about Sonar for whatever reason in repeated posts. That's why I told him to 'try them all'. I wasn't trying to sell him on another DAW or anything... I was just telling him to chill.

I googled his user name and it looks like he does do large performances.
http://www.wcedgar.com/Home_Page.html
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=wc+edgar&oq=wc+edgar

I don't know what the deal was. Maybe he thought he was so big one of us would volunteer to bounce his tracks for him at no cost?

:-)

Funny thing is, that's exactly what I do for all my friends. I never charge anyone.

Makes me laugh really.

Well, he's still no GP, for those who remember that individual.  :)

I don't know for the life of me why someone would pull all of their post content out of a thread.

To the original poster who removed all of his content, I have this bit of wisdom to share:

Really?  You ask for help, get several immediate responses and then you give up so quickly?  Did you really feel compelled to type "closed" in every post?  Were you that kid constantly grabbing his ball and going home the second the game did not go as planned?

I called him and live locally, he gave me a bogus email address for contact information.
I also recomended he come here to ask more technical questions.
I texted him asking for his email, still no answer.
I hope he sees that everyone is trying to help him, and not get temperamental
about how things are done here, best wishes to everyone who has tried to help.
