GLAD I STUCK WITH X1 !
Ive been playing around with X1 and Im liking it more each day. Learning X1 is forcing me to use Scott's book and this forum more than I ever have in the past. I learn something new most every day. I truly think sticking with X1 as it is being fixed/updated is a good decision. Plus we can all say we are using a DAW that "we" helped develop. Jeff

I agree. For some reason, my mixes sound better now, more of "oumphhhff". It has become easier to curve out a thumping bass .. Well, I think so anyway. K

Speaking of Bass....................and kick. Is prochannel your choice for Comp and EQ...or another plug? Just curious. My grand-daughter played me a Justin Bieber cut.."acoustic album" track one..cant remember the name. Bass and Kick sound really good. Id like to know what comp and settings were used. No distortion just super clean but really "in your face".... It was so compressed the meter barely moved...but the track did not "sound compressed" and had nice dynamics. The Cake analyzer showed the low end squashed from 60hz to 160hz. Jeff

Jeff, Since I record bass live, I use an LA-610 preamp (not the MKII) so I comp that there. I usually highpass with Sonitus. Further Eq is usually done in the Amp sim of choice (my Favs are Amplitube Fender '59 Bassman or SVX). For Kick, I like the UAD Harrison EQ and the UAD Fairchild.

(I would like a quick way to convert sonitus EQ to prochannel. Perhaps via a .CAL?) I do not think x1 gives better bass out of the blue, but x1 makes it easier to control ... somehow .. K

Jeff A good compressor while tracking will get you that sound. The prochannel can get you part of the way there but better to have done some nice neutral compression during recording.

Yes, that works for me too. Lately though I've been using the Line 6 POD HD500 and then into the LA-610 (not the mkII). This seems to add a bit more roundness to the tone. Further EQ (if necessary) has been coming from the UAD Pultec Pro, or the UAD Neve 1073. This gives me a real big bottom [insert your favorite big bottom joke here]. Paul

I, too, am glad that I stuck with X1. It has been stable on my system for a couple of months, now, and I've used it professionally with confidence. It seems that the sound is smoother and warmer across all the frequency bands when I use the ProChannel. Whether that's true or not, I'm loving it.

+1 I have been working on old and new songs uploading from 8.5.3 to X1b as well as using my Zoom R24 and Panu's Dark Side color scheme. All is good. I am a singer/songwriter doing a lot of country songs these days. The sound is very controllable through X1 and I find the Prochannel very friendly to acoustic guitar and vocals. Bottom line is that I am having alot of fun and producing good tracks as well. No negative or pissy attitude here. Just really liking what I have and how it helps me create. Recently, I wanted to play some live drums on a track so I grabbed my R24 and set it up in my garage and recorded my acoustic drums. It all took about 20 minutes from setup to tear down and I now have live drums on my X1 track with independent channels for all. My laptop and Zoom all work with batteries if need be. I can go anywhere and do almost kind of recording at this point and the sound is as clean as can be. I always record without pre-fader EQ or comp so that I can edit it any way I need to later. The digital realm makes this very easy. Thanks to all who help and share their ideas to make this world a better place. For those that just can't help but find problems everywhere, I suggest you move on to something else that suits you better. If you enjoy bringing others down, you have a lot of work to do IMO. Life is too short. I'm on the later part of it myself. Thanks Cake for doing the best you can. I too would like to see some fixes here and there but this is the DAW that helps me create and I thank you for what you are doing. Here's to everyone enjoying what they do and appreciating the good things in life. Rimshot
