I follow these boards pretty religiously...yes i'm sure they've been reported.

Thanks for the tips I am already aware of the recompute pictures. It's just an annoyance to me and I have never seen it in any of the other Cakewalk programs I have owned since Audio 9.

As for the midi notes I have moved/created/drawn them manually myself. They then show up magically off the marker point and then magically line up again if I reopen the window. It's some sort of  video glitch. My other favorite (sarcasm) is when I copy several tracks of midi. It doesn't always go where it is supposed to. It may be off a little or just enough so that it is barely noticable.

I have even recorded midi and had it magically record behind the beat on some takes and magically fix it self several takes later.

My point is I spend a lot of extra time double checking Sonar's work because I don't trust it anymore. I never had to do that before.

I am by no means an 8.5.3 fanboy but if X1 worked as consistently as 8.5.3 I wouldn't be commenting here.

I don't ever remember seeing this many negative comments in this forum before X1 showed up. I also don't ever remember a version of Sonar that had 5 updates. That tells me that there are plenty of known issues.

IMHO features that worked flawlessly in the past (such as midi editing & pictures of recorded Wav files) should still be working flawlessly now, anything else is unacceptable. My 2 cents

Most of my Sonar problems have been related to VSTs.  When Sonar won't open a project, did you try doing a Shift-Open to see if a particular plug-in is causing the issue.

I know you shouldnt have to to this--just an idea.

One thing that probably doesn't apply to you, but maybe will to someone who has problems opening projects: if you are using a V-studio with built-in Fantom and try to open two projects that both use the Fantom, sonar will lock up; unfortunately, the error msg that warns against multiple Fantom instances is usually behind other things so you can't see what is wrong.  A better solution would be for Cakewalk to go ahead and open the other project with the second instance disabled instead of crashing everything.

The more something is reported the higher it get's lifted to the top of the pile. Since you follow this forum religiously, you're as sick as I am of people saying there's bugs, then they don't get fixed because not enough people report them, and then those people complain again. It takes 3 minutes to report an issue. I've done it in the past and thankfully my problems were fixed.

I've had problems with pictures not computing right all the way back to Pro Audio 9. Most of these instances were due to poorly coded plug-ins.

SONAR 4 had four patches over an 11 month cycle. We've had 5 in a 29 month cycle.  It's not like they are throwing things out the door here and X1 is a far more capable and mature product.

I've never experienced MIDI paste issues like you are experiencing. Are those logged? What are the other users's CWBRN's if they have been logged? Who's logged them?

I double check all of my work because it's mission critical most of the time. Regardless of the DAW I'm using in whatever studio I'm engineering at. I don't really trust anything in the digital world. Unless you have 3 backups in 3 different places it doesn't really exist.

This forum always has a rash of negativity every release. It's about the same regardless.

I actually skipped Sonar 4 so I didn't notice those 4 updates.

As you can tell I don't post often. Actually I don't even remember posting 17 times (18 now)
One of the reasons I rarely post is I search this forum and usually find the answer tio my problems.

I work extensively in Midi. You always have to double and triple check your work for many things such as double notes, ghost notes and notes that run together. (some soft synths will not play correctly if notes overlap. I edit all my tracks  individually both visually then in audio. It is tedious but it is how I do it.

X1 has added a more frustrating layer to this process amd sometimes it magically comes and goes.

I get that there are going to be bugs. I get that there are going to be things that don't work right.  We are in new territory with 64-bit & bridging to 32-bit. There are lots of 3rd party plugs and hardware that don't always play nice.

I am making some great mixes with Sonar X1 but the effort level has gone way up and the enjoyment has gone way down.

I liken it to driving a brand new fancy car that could stall at any time and leave me at the side of the road with no notice.

None of my issues are show stoppers. They are lots of little inconsistent issues and they show up at wierd times.

All I am saying is that something like Midi editing should be bulletproof. It was up until X1 for me.
I purchased Sonar X1 because I could depend on it to be a solid, trustworthy workhorse that the previous versions have always been.
For me it's not there yet.
Thank you for your time and response. I really appreciate this forum. It is easily the best.
