Ghosted clips bug

Lately I've run into a problem with either midi or audio tracks, where the clips all of a sudden get dim, much like when we go into automation mode. With the midi clips that had this problem, so far I’ve been able to get it back t normal by Shift clicking the clip, which is the same method we use to depart automation Mode.

I also found a shape event in the midi event list at 0.000. I deleted that event and the midi clips returned to their normal look and were fine.  In this case this sure looks like a bug, because the Edit Filter displays the word “Clips” not some automation. The times this has happened has been in the last few weeks and on newly started projects.

Last week I opened a very old project, only a few audio tracks and a few midi tracks. All of a sudden the audio clips in one track got dim. I shift clicked one clip and it returned to normal, but Shift clicking didn’t’ fix the other clips. I opened the event view and saw 3 grey shape events, 3 grey audio events and 1 normal blue audio event. Deleting those shape events didn’t help.

I didn’t find any way to return those audio clips back to normal. When I played the audio tack those greyed clips were all silent. Copying all the clips to a new audio track didn't help either. Edit Filter displays the word “Clips” not automation, just like with the midi clips having this problem.

Has anyone seen any bugs like these before. I was using 2016.05 during all of this and now upgraded to 2016.07 and so far this bug hasn’t resurfaced. I’m most concerned about the audio clips that couldn't get back to normal. Since there is no workaround.

Any thoughts on this?

Same here: http://forum.cakewalk.com...editable-m3459171.aspx

Thank for your post Roger. I was beginning to think I was the only one that's seen this, since no one responded except you.. Check out my 1st post in regard to this.

http://forum.cakewalk.com...den-grey-m3451590.aspx

Also I've saved BUN files of both the dim midi clips and the dim audio clips. Since no one has any explanation for this, it's clearly a bug. The dim midi clips so far were fixable by either shift clicking the clip or deleting the event named "shape" in the midi event list.

I was really freaked out about this happening to the audio clip of a very old project, since there is no workaround for this one that I was able to come up with. This unnerved me so, that I upgraded to 2016.07, hoping I’d never see this bug again. What’s strange is that I’ve worked with 2016.05 for over a month without this happening then it all happened within a week on a few projects.

This is very weird, so I thought possibly it was triggered by some hardware, so I a few things like rebooting my AVB Ultralite box that normally just stays on, trimming down my audio HD that only had 57 gigs free out of 1000 gig, cleaned my mouse, in case some erratic mouse movement caused it. I also reverted to an earlier image file of my C drive.

I wish Cakewalk would respond to this post, so I'll know if they are aware of this bug and if they want my BUN files and a formal bug report. Let me know if you find out anything.

I haven't come across this, but, does the Edit Filter in both the parent track and Track Lane match?   Just thinking out loud...

Just had this happen when working with a MIDI track. Clips looked like they were muted and the smart tool cursor wasn't working as expected over the clips. The edit filter was already set to clips but clicking the arrow seemed to reset the tracks clips back to an expected state.

Which version of Plat are you using? I was getting a few strange things happen so I've gone back to using 2016.03  I've never had this ghosted clip problem with the old version. I wish Cakewalk would chime in and let us know whether they are aware of this bug and which versions are affected. I haven’t reported it as a bug yet. I don’t’ want to use any new versions that have this bug.

In your case this may be a related bug or you may have hit some key combination that accidently turned on automation and then turning it back to "clips" fixes it.

In my case and in others that have had this particular bug, what's really strange is that the clip does all of a sudden go grey, but it still shows "clips" in the track pane. If what happened to you just happened for no apparent reason, then your episode is a bug also.

I still wish Cakewalk would explain what's going on here or at least acknowledge that they are aware of it.

Hi

I just want to be clear that I am experiencing the same problem you are , when this happens to me it also says clips in the track drop down menu and if I open that drop down menu and select clips again it brings it back from dark grey to normal . So this is a bug and the same is happening to me .

Oh I see, you're right. So we now have 2 ways to return the clip back to normal - your way and also by shift clicking the clip. Which version of Plat are you using? Has this bug only shown up in the last month or so? The first time I saw it was around 7/1. About a week ago I reverted back to 2016.03

Hi ,

i am troubleshooting PRV TABs ( different BUG ) at the moment and the dark clips problem is happening very frequently, you may be able to catch it

1 open new project
2 add 3 midi clips
3 add all 3 midi clips to prv tab 1 , then lock the tab
4 select all three midi clips again and add them to prv tab 2 lock the tab.
5 at this point i am not sure how to recreate the darkening of the clip we are experiencing
however ( it happens alot and its annoying ), what i am doing is adding a midi note to all 3 tracks ( midi track 1 -midi note length 4 beats at measure 1, midi track 2 -midi note length 4 beats at measure 2,midi track 3 -midi note length 4 beats at measure 3 ) then i am trying copy and paste between tracks on each PRV TAB ,  it seems to happen alot using right clip to delete midi notes ( or holding right click on mouse and dragging over several midi notes to delete .

hope this helps , i cant figure out step 5 ( so everyone can recreate it ) , though my description definitely makes some of the clips darken at randomness .

Ok i can recreate the dark clip BUG , i am on latest version SPLAT always .

1) Open new default project
2) Right click in track lane add 1 midi track ( So track 1  IS A AUDIO TRACK , tracks  2 and 3 are midi tracks )
3) Select tracks 2 and 3 with the mouse using CTRL , then ALT +3 ( to put them in PRV Tab )
4) Lock the PRV tab
5) In PRV tab on midi track A ( track 2) draw 2 notes BESIDE each other ON THE SAME KEYBOARD NOTE ( each note 4 beats long , so both notes span 2 measures)
6) Using your mouse right click and lasso both notes
7) Ctrl C
8 make sure time ruler is at start , then click other midi track pane (track 3 / midi  B)
9) CTRL V ( now you should have 4 midi notes total  2 stacked from each midi pane)
10) Using the mouse right click and delete both stacked notes in measure 2 ( should just be 2 clicks)
11) Now do the same right click and delete both stacked notes in measure 1 ( should just be 2 clicks )
12) Now using the mouse draw 1 note back exactly where you deleted the last note ( it will automatically be 1 measure long and  it should also trigger the dark clips BUG, and if you then click the other midi pane and draw another note it should also trigger the bug on that one too

i have tried this on 2 different pcs and the results are the same , just follow each step exactly

You should be able to refine this tooo, but for now everyone else can see the bug !!!!
Thanks

I've not been able to come up wit a recipe. It looks like you've done an excellent job of coming up with one. You're the first one that I'm aware of.

Have you turned in a bug report? Since you have a recipe, that needs to be done. I haven’t heard form Cakewalk about this bug. maybe they’re working on it

Great job!

Hi

No I haven't submitted a bug report , I am sure the recipe could be refined I noticed ( I think ) when trying to get it that when midi notes from different panes overlap it triggers faster ( though I could be mad ) , I wouldn't know how to submit a bug report .

The way you presented the recipe for the bug looks much like the way Cakewalk wants you to report a bug. They have it step by step the same way you did. I'd suggest for you to go here and turn in your recipe for this bug

https://www.cakewalk.com/...Contact/Problem-Report

If you'd rather not do it, then let me know and I'll do it. But I think you need to get credit for it, since you came up with the recipe. Also this will be good for you to get to know how to report a bug.

 a refined version

1) new project
2) using mouse highlight the default midi track 2
3)ALT + 3 ( to put to PRV TAB )
4) Draw 1 note (any lenght anywhere
5)using right click lassoo the midi note
6) CTRL + V (  move time ruler where ever you like )
6a) now you should have 2 notes pasted from the same midi pane
8) using right click delete a note
And There is the bug !!

So basically on 1 midi track if i draw 5 midi notes next to each other , then using right click delete them all one by one or all together , it doesn't seem  trigger the bug .
However as soon as i ctrl c >ctrl V a note and delete it, it triggers the bug . ( keep in mind though that it still is random/for example if you draw in 4 notes next to each other using same midi pane , then lasso them using right click , then hold ctrl and drag to the right adding another 4 notes , then lassoo the last two notes , then ctrl c , then move time ruler 1 measure forward of last note , then ctrl v , then using right click delete each note right to left , the bug only triggers after you delete the last note and insert a new note, and rarely it may not )

Good work!  When visiting the Cakewalk site it's not that easy finding this problem reporter. I’m glad I could point you to it. You’ll find it handy if a different bug surfaces for you.
