Thanks for that explanationg Malcolm.  When I first started recording, I had no idea that it would be possible to collab with real guitarists, so I kept wondering exactly how to get the strum sound of a guitar.  How you did it is pretty much how I figured it would have to be done, but I never could get it to sound nearly this well.  Anyway, very cool.  Thanks.  :)

Hi Janet - I had (and have) very much the same problem of a dearth of real guitarists - not sure my neighbours could cope! What I found seemed to work was to start with a six string strum and then use variations of 2, 3, 4 and 5 strings for subsequent strums in the bar to give a variation in the sound. I also played around with velocity to give emphasis to the beat. A huge amount of work (and notes!) so it is not something I would do too often - Folk music is so very much simpler!

Haha this song is awesome.  I'm not much of a sweets eater, but for some reason I want pie.  Damnit.

Great job Malcomb.  I really enjoyed this tune!

Hi Ben - Sincere thanks - It is odd how that simple vocal hook seems to stick in the brain! But then we men do LOVE Pie!

Hi Luke - Sincere thanks - I'm like you, not a huge sweet eater - but now I find myself dreaming of Pie! The power of music!

Hi Guitarprima - Sincere thanks - I always think a bit of fun goes a long way - just like lots of Pie! Rock on!

Best Regards
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm pie ; )  So now your going to take over the heavy metal scene, are you. Great sounds on this, lead guitar reminded me of Keith emerson when he played in the Nice, distorted organ ; )

OK Malcomb I took your advice and bought Mariam (download.)

I have NEVER used staff before, so I loaded a VST piano (Philarmonik) and placed notes and got aquainted with staff as well. Then I will copy and re-write in to Vocaloid... create a WAV... and import in to Sonar? That easy??

Hi Rik - Sincere thanks. Pie Mmmmmmmm! Definitely agree with that! As for taking over the heavy metal scene (!) I promise completely and absolutely on the grey hair of my sainted Aunt that I will never, never, never do that! Shudder! (and Miriam agrees!). It's back to the Tra la la's and hey fiddle hi ho for me! Have a great week.

Hi Kiki - Yes, it's easy. And not so easy! The basic process is just as you describe and that works OK. The difficult part is to get the words to sound right and get them sounding like a real person is singing. You can do some of that in Vocaloid using Velocity, Expression, Accents, Clarity and so forth. Once you transfer the .wav file to Sonar, you can then use Reverb, Compression, EQ and so forth to further improve the sound quality. If you PM me here, we can swop email addresses and then you can raise any Vocaloid and Staff questions you have directly with me.

Best Regards
Malcolm

Hi Wookie - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like it. Can anything be even second to Becan?! As that French woman with the wobbly head said "Wot, no Pie? Let them eat Fruit Becan Cake!".
