Goodbye Vista with 2017.07

Anybody else notice the message in the Start screen that as of 2017.07 Sonar will no longer install on Vista.  Is that the first time the installer won't work  when support is dropped?  Usually it's just {fill in the OS} will no longer be supported, isn't it?

Other than my father, are there more than 6 people in the world still running Vista? What are the chances any of them are Sonar users who simply refuse to update to an OS that isn't dead in the water, and wasn't kind of a turkey to begin with?

But in answer to your question, I have no idea, you may be right.

LOL!    And I agree with the turkey assessment.

I work in a heath care facility which is part of a huge network. Bet we have thousands of computers and all running W7 pro. They never did use vista. But the IT guys told me we will be running W7 for a long time yet , mostly because it's solid and supports all our equipment. They say W10 would be a train wreck for networking. W10  panders to consumers not business and networking.

I will keep W7 on 2 of my laptops until they stop working. This one I'm typing on came with Vista and it was the worst OS I'd ever used.

Not gonna happen anytime soon, results with the Tascam FW1884 have been "sketchy" at best.
Bear in mind I still play guitars that contain Brazilian Rosewood and amps that require electron valves.

There was info in the September 2016 eZine about which operating systems accounted for the most session counts. At that time Windows Vista (32 bit) represented 0.0001% of the total session counts, and Windows Vista (64 bit) was even less.

I liked VIsta when it was current. I wouldn't go back to it though. Windows 10 is a far better OS in every way that matters and some that don't.

If you did ALL the updates to Vista, it essentially became Windows 7 (although it took hours and hours to do all the updating). However, it still lacked a few key elements that I think affect the ability to run SONAR 100%.

I am still using Vista 64 on my general purpose PC (which used to be my DAW) back in the day it was big step up from XP because I could use 12GB of RAM.

I have WIN10 on my DAW but I am happy using Vista on the old PC.

I avoided Vista.  Stayed on XP, until jumping to Win 7 at XP end-of-life.

Developers cannot be expected to support end-of-life systems forever, so that is always going to make it necessary to step up if you want to run current applications.  Or you could just run Sonar 8.5 forever ...

I remember having to make exceptions for Vista in the project I worked on.
Additional work didn't balance the (tiny) demand from Vista users.
We eventually didn't support it at all.

Same here. Then I did the 10 thing.

In fact I just went from XP to Win 10 Home ($119) on my 2008 Inspiron 9400 laptop. Upgraded the memory from 2GB to 4GB ($22). This will be a travelling Mixbus 32C machine (where I will do essentially audio only fiddly-faddle).

Vista was a huge change from XP. It needed the right hardware to run well. I built my machine to run Vista and it did run it well. I also did keep it updated. I skipped Windows 7 because I didn't see much difference when it came out. The same machine is running Win 10 very well  so I have no complaints.

I wasn't a big fan of Vista but it was a big change from XP. It looked a lot more professional than XP did and once a few updates came out, Vista ran very nice. I was a bigger fan of Win 7 but I respect what Vista was. it was the parent of Windows 7 which behind the scenes Microsoft was building a great OS (one of the best in my opinion) which was Win 7.

I use Windows 8.1 right now in my Work DAW. but have Windows 10 installed on my laptop.

Note that for anyone still running Vista anywhere, Extended Support ended from Microsoft as of 4/11/17
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/22882/windows-vista-end-of-support

I had it on an old laptop that I formatted and am working to repurpose as a Media Player because there's just too many autobots out there looking for vulnerable systems.

I still have Xp on my little Asus Netbook which is now my lyric display for live gigs. I also use it when travelling for e mail and internet stuff. I figure if it gets a virus it only takes a small effort to re do it. It won't run on W7 being so pathetic at 1.5 Gz. I put an SSD drive in it and it is super fast to boot and run. Once your in Chrome you can't really feel any difference in browsing speed. Chrome nags me that it can't guarantee my safety. But for all it's worth, no matter the warnings, it's been at least 2 years and XP still works fine and I've yet to be attacked by monsters. It's all fear mongering as far as I can tell. And one day it even did an update??.
