Gorgeous! I haven't seen all of the posts on the progress I don't think, but I have to say I like the decision not to add a pick guard. Definitely shows off that beautiful wood grain. Oh and I really like the sides of the guitar - that black binding (I guess you'd call it) between the types of wood just really looks sharp.

That's really something to be proud of Michael. I still can't get over the fact that the wood has to artificial finish on it. How beautiful! I know you said only 2 more guitars. So maybe you could make me a piano?

Let's get a crash cart in here, people! Spacey may be going into shock at the thought of building a piano. (That would be one cool piano, though.)

Thanks Zuma! Thank you Dave. That black is a wood and stuff mixed together. It finishes better than the traditional use of dyed Holly. I use the Holly too. Janet if Grant says it's a guitar...then I will be proud.....er....lol...'cause that's what it's all about. And Bubba is right! I get to thinking about all those dimensions and alternater universes and Pedro fuzzy dingle balls....no way could I handle a piano. I get a bad feelin' just thinking about trying to keep one clean! Well I've very happy to report that the guitar is packed and will be heading to Grants tomorrow. I hope he finds it to be the axe I feel it is. Thanks again to all of you and I hope the builds are fun for you too. Cheers, Mike

I keep coming back to this thread just to stare at those pics... Christ I wish that was being sent to me...g'damit! I've literally become entranced since first viewing it. If I were still living in Vermont I would be firing up the chainsaw and heading straight for a maple tree... preferably an old beauty that had already been toppled by wind and snow! What you need is some start up coin, because I don't think you'd have any shortage of customers.

Isn't she a knockout, I told Michael I was interested in the tele tone most of all and wasn't so keen on the traditional painted, pick guarded tele. He let me select the wood and explained the tonal characteristics of the wood. I learned the term tonewood. We also discussed neck size, contour. We discussed electronics. This is a Tele beyond my wildest dreams. Without even playing it I know it's a dream machine. All great guitar makers started out with one guy with a love for crafting something from hand. Go ahead and covet this magnificent hand crafted one of a kind I understand completely. I will cherish it always. Thanks again brother Michael for your dedication to your craft, and thanks for letting me in on the details, you're the greatest

ohgrant We also discussed neck size, contour. He crafted the neck himself? I assumed that was ordered pre-built? The body is one thing, but the neck and headstock must be an art unto itself. Well, I'm in awe at any rate, and yes she is truly a knockout. I'm dying to hear it too... I wonder how cherry would sound? Cherry has a gorgeous color to it. Especially the heart wood.

I may be mistaken, but I think I recall something about cherry being an overlooked tonewood and is very good indeed especially the heartwood If I recall.

Your welcome Grant and it was my pleasure. Thank you for the support. I enjoyed working with you very much and hope it's the guitar you wanted. Zuma...I laughed because using a manufacturers neck on my first "assembly" is what drove me to make my own. I've come to love talking about building but sure don't want to get on a box....I'm slap full of birthday cake and ice cream... I haven't used Cherry wood although my wife sure wants me to remodel the kitchen and I don't know that it's used for guitars...but I will find out. She may get guitar shaped cabinet doors LOL. Seriously Zuma....tap on it....just start tapping on woods....the tonewoods- they tap back.

Indeed I have done this back in the day. I used to be mighty handy with a chainsaw and would drum a lot on the trees with the limb wood and also on the firewood we blocked up. My buddy back home in Vermont is a fantastic guitar player and we always talked about building him a custom guit and drum but never did get around to it. I'd like for him to see these pics... he'd be slobbering all over the place.
