    Too young to harvest.
It won't have any "flavor" until it's at least 4 feet tall.

It is a weed native to North Carolina, and I remember a statistic from the 1980s that it was the 2nd biggest cash crop in the state.
Seeing how governments tend to overstate everything, it was probably the 3rd biggest cash crop. They just wanted to over-dramatize the 'problem'.

Thing is they are such amazingly beautiful plants, I'd grow them just for the decorative aspects of the foliage if the neighbourhood cats owners could leave them alone.

Did you also know they are capable of movement more dramatic than say a Venus fly trap?  When they are 8 week old seedlings play them 'Sugar Magnolia' by the Dead, and they will start to dance. No kidding.

Well I've seen it happen on many occasion and I don't think I was imagining it.  Plus the fact doing this will yield a 20-40% better crop,  I'm not sure how effective other Grateful Dead tracks are but 'Sugar Magnolia' sure does the trick.

A book I inherited from my mom and dad describes them as an excellent plant to grow as a backdrop to your herbaceous border.  The book was published in the 40's.

Indeed it was, the 'plot' was on a south facing slope near Falmouth, Cornwall in the 'sarf' west the plants being sheltered from the wind on three sides by a high wall.  The beauty of that was there was no temptation as we lived 300 miles away in the sarf east.  We just drove down for a weeks holiday in the caravan there when the farmer whose land it was tipped us off they were getting a little obvious to the neighbours.  They're pretty hardy and they will grow anywhere but getting them to thrive is another matter.

Hydroponics has nothing on a bit of healthy free-range horticulture.

Ahh, the memories. (although I can't remember what they were... )

Of course we all grow out of that kind of thing..... eventually.  And remember kids this stuff is BAD, mkay?

Going back a few decades..... a buddy grew a few recreational plants on an old pile of  horse dung..... talk about some pretty weeds.... The leaves where the size of plates.... as a unit, and a number of them had 7 and 9 leaves. They were about 8 to 10 feet tall.  After harvest, he walked around the yard toting a paper shopping bag full..... what a summer that was.

Being in the security business, and all the background checks that entails as the owner of the business..... I can not afford to risk involvement in any sort of arrest.......even a DUI arrest can force me to shut my doors and put me out of business. The state board is extremely strict on this and will not take excuses. As a result I have to avoid these things or risk my livelihood..... I just say... no thanks....

My thoughts about cannabis: Until 1936 it was totally legal in the USA. In colonial times it was used to make rope and clothing, and even today it is used for making rope.  I think that it is just a matter of time... a few years, until it is once again legal...although this time heavily regulated, controlled, and taxed by the government. Small personal gardens will likely be allowed not to exceed a certain number of plants for personal use..... just like you can brew your own beer and wine for home consumption. The big push for medical weed is the beginning of bigger things to come.

    Hi,

    I'm a veteran. I quit a long time ago.

Given the choice, I would welcome some pure lsd25 on my deathbed instead of morphine! I would have thought that some music would do the job, but I already know that some people could never appreciate  "Apocaliptic Bore" anyway!

And that's what most of the drugs were, anyway!

Ah, yes. Instead of a cyanide capsule for when I need to be unplugged, some nice lsd might be better than morphine.

As to the op's plants, I've always found them to be quite ugly when they get large.
