@ bapu - not road cones, and yes, they're solid

@ beepster - good question.  they were lying down, side by side, just like they are in the picture, but not touching each other and not stacked.

Clearly this IS the Mayan Calendar.  You can see "December 21, 2012" stamped into the side of one if you look reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally closely.

EVERYTHING has SOMETHING to do with BECAN.  duh.

one more hint and I'm going to dinner (becan, becan, becan sandwich with becan) then I'll tell you when I get back if you haven't figured it out.

putting 4 of them side by side on the top of the pyramid was a sound idea.

Silly Beagle!  It's a Mayan drum kit, obviously.

They were used in early Rock 'n' Roll, I believe.

hmm... I seem to remember watching a doc on the Mayans and how they'd use weird acoustic tricks to project the voices of whoever were at the top of the temple but I couldn't see how those could be used for that. Meh. I got nuthin'. Nice brain teasers for the afternoon though. Hope you had fun on your trip.

Isn't it obvious?  You can see just by looking at them that four, side-by-side, would create a perfect Am chord.

Simples.
