HELP ME!!!! Cannot record!
Hi All I have a problem that is pissing me off to no end! I am new to Sonar and i'm running Sonar X1 Producer, prior to this all my home recording has been done through Audacity. I have my instruments set up through a mixer (Behringer Eurorack MXB1002) This then goes into my external sound card (Creative Sound Blaster X-fi HD) after installing and configuring Sonar, i want to start recording but Sonar wont pickup my instruments, however if i revert back to Audacity, all is fine! I can hear my instruments coming through my monitors when i play but nothing and i mean nothing! is being picked up by Sonar. I have been at this for hours and the only result of my efforts is a headache! I have been searching these forums for an answer but have been unable to find one, so all my hopes are on you fine people Below are some pictures of my setup and some screen caps of the configuration

Do you have something else running that has a lock on your sound card? If you have the drivers selected, which you appear to, it is just a matter of selecting that as the input on an audio track, arming the track for recording and then pressing record. If you want to monitor from within Sonar you need to use the input echo button which is just to the right of the track header record button. If you arm for recording do you get any meter movement on the armed track?

Are you using the SP/DIF output to drive your monitors? It seems odd to me the Sound blaster does not have a analog output visable in Sonar.

funny that the drivers that come with soundblaster are "creative asio" not generic drivers, go to the asio drop down list and look for "creative asio"

looking from the pictures they are analog connections (rca/phono jacks), not spdif usb edit, just noticed the usb out from the interface, will you go to control panel/sound/and see what record interface is default

Hmmm.....I know the feeling all too well. At risk of sounding insulting (I would never mean to) are you sure your assigns/routing on the mixer are correct to route to the audio interface?

Also unless you have a digital out on the mixer i.e. SP/DIF use another input to your SB card. I would suggest an analog input. Also make sure you are using the right audio driver for your SB in Sonar.

The only driver option it gives me is the generic low latency driver. in control panel/sound my recording is setup to record from phono-in

Chregg That is the Windows sound applet not the audio driver section in Sonar. ,,,,,,,,,,,,, it was me that suggested that, just to check what device was default for recording What he needs is a driver in Sonar that will work with his SB. So for none of the screens he has shown have that. Another poster said that the driver he needs is the SB driver not a generic one that may not even work with his device. As to the default sound device in Windows that has no impact on the what is used in Sonar. I have 2 audio sound cards on my system and only the one I want to work with Sonar is active for Sonar and only Sonar. The default one is used for general multi media usage.

I'm not sure I understand your signal chain here: the Soundblaster module obviously connects to the computer via USB. What is the interface for getting external signals (mics, mixers, etc.) into and out of the Soundblaster, and which one in particular are you using? Your mixer is connected to the Soundblaster through what looks like a standard RCA stereo cable - what output are you using from the mixer? I suppose I could go look it all up, but I'm lazy ...

Is that the only driver option - spdif? Seems a bit odd.

Any chance ASIO4ALL would solve this? Just a possible driver if none exist.

After looking at the specs for the mixer and SB module, I don't see where there is an spdif connector anywhere, so I'm inclined to agree that this is a driver issue, and that the spdif driver he is seeing is not for the SB. There must be another driver, maybe with a control panel or something, that supports the line in on the SB.

Re: Creative ASIO Driver for Soundblaster X-FI HD? The X-Fi HD does not have ASIO support. You might want to consider using third-party ASIO drivers to see how it goes but do note that there is no technical support for it since it is not supported. quote from the creative forum

Op: Try to switch the driver mode from ASIO to WDM/KS on the "Playback and Recording" tab and see if the WDM drivers show up. You may have to switch the default audio in/out that Windows is using to allow you to "take over" control of the input and output so you can set the sample rates. ASIO4ALL is great when you want to combine several different drivers together under one virtual driver, or when your application only supports ASIO, but using it just to wrap a WDM/KS driver so that you can use ASIO is not necessary as Sonar allows you to use WDM/KS directly.
