Hi Folks

I hope you enjoy it but nits and crits welcome

Happy Pursuit
Written and performed by Staypress
V1
People wait all week for the weekend and all winter for the winter to end
You can wait all your life to be happy or you can choose to live now my friend.
Bridge
It's not about flashy cars
It's not about impressing girls in bars
If you haven't got the message yet I do wish this for you...
Chorus
May your pursuit to be happy be a happy pursuit
Take the time to taste life's fruit
Life should be simple, don't make it complex
You only have one life (until the next)
V2
People believe that life is a struggle - a film with drama in every scene
Life is what you conceive and believe me it's never too late to be what you might have been.
Bridge
Chorus
Middle bit

Sadly this was one of those songs whose level I will probably not reach. That means I loved it! Well done. Mix wise I think while I listen with my cheap hphones, Sennheiser hd 407s, that the bass is a bit weak but it can be the headphones' fault.

Nice one Daryl! Drums are very present in this, which I love. Bass is right there (not sure why Kakku is missing it, it's right behind my eyes). Nice touches throughout which really keep things interesting.

I do hear the bass I just want to hear it like darker or deeper. My tunes most of them miss good bass but I do like the bass, especially if it is powerful and deep. Or maybe I need to switch my headphones to better ones.
Edit: after second listen I must admit the bass is just fine here. Even though it is not quite as deep as I would like, it goes well with the song. And maybe I should get better h-phones.
Edit:I have grados sr80s but not sure of their qualities.

This is very cool – cute without being too cute, poppy but not so sweet that it detracts. Love the way the simple bass line hits you in the gut. Very nice production – solid sounds and blended very well. It’s really an odd little tune as well. Catchy – very. Don’t take this the wrong way – but I can see someone using this in a commercial due to the catchy nature of it. It’s fun, original and just a neat tune all around. Excellent writing and performance.

Np. My bass judgement is probably wrong. I should probably not say mix things when listening with cheap hphones. I trust Dan is right with his experience and equipment.

I really like your style. This production is so good. Love the song and mix.
On my system, running it through speakers and my ATH M50's, I think the bass is too hot.
Love the kick level. I think the bass is overpowering the vocals.

Isn't it funny how we all hear stuff differently?

I think what I'm reading is that the bass is sitting in the low mid frequencies, to mid frequencies more so than what we would traditionally (in the modern era) expect. I'd suggest cloning the bass track, lowering the original and EQing the cloned track to enhance the lower frequencies. You could also try the trick Craig Anderton posted about a few weeks ago, transposing the cloned track down an octave and blending that deeper bass sound into the mix.

Personally, I think it sounds fine the way it is, but I can understand some of these other comments regarding the bass.

Dan

Not as well as I wanted to Daryl.....I failed the 6 hr. exam. No worries.....will have to redouble my efforts and do a better job on the next take.
BTW, if you do have any need for a little noodling or soloing on a track, I'd love to contribute.....(I remember you mentioned something like this back in Dec..).

This is a very, very catchy tune. The kind that stays in your head and you hum at 2:00 in the morning. I like it a lot.
A couple things:
1. I would be interested to hear this with different basses. Nothing wrong with the current version, but just to compare.
2. To build a little expectation for the listener, It might be interesting to not bring the bass in until about 35 seconds into the tune, or maybe have it play the first 15 seconds (intro),  drop out, and then back in at 35. This is just a stylistic thing, not a critique. Great song!

when I see you post a new song, I run don't walk to listen to it. Great mixing chops meets catchy tunesmithery. I thought the bass was just fine but on the louder side of just fine.

For an ending, I'd prefer a fade out during a chorus, but I bet you thought of that one already.

As you Brits say, "brilliant."

I can certainly here that British feel in this one. Has all the elements of a nice Beatles song. I could almost hear some ohhhs and ahhs in there. Loved both song and mix!

Thanks Tim - praise indeed.
