Have you noticed that

the "vibe" isn't quite the same upstairs after Studio 1 came out last month? Some of our regular cakewalkers have been observed in bi-locations....

I grabbed the $20 NAMM "steal-deal" on Studio One Artist so I can see what it's like... just another tool for the kit.

It has been a little quieter around here, though...

yeah, all of those guys are posting regularly still in the X1 Complaint Department (except for CJ - that was cute, Strummy!)

but they don't spend hardly any time in the Sonar Studio and Producer forum if that's where you're looking.

The second I get a job, which the possibility of that happening soon is looking up right now, you guys will probably never see me again. It's quite clear to me that there are certain people here who think they own this forum site and don't want anyone to trample on their turf.

It's been getting ugly up there and I think anyone who has an ounce of normalcy about them have moved on. Myself for one am done with the X1 forum after last night's round of attacks. I only hang out here because currently I have nothing better to do and I like 99.9% of the people who post here.

The impression I get from Cj is, he's probably trying to learn X1 inside and out so he can become the self proclaimed expert, but since X1 isn't working properly, he's laying low until the dust settles. Actually, I could care less what he's doing. He's always been rude and arrogant and it's actually a better place without him. I've been seeing more and more long time forum members who rarely post come out of the woodwork since him and his mouth are gone.

Bub, I have to agree with your sentiments here.

But what annoys me more are the apologists who always blindly rally behind their demi-god whenever he's called out for his poor social skills and bad manners.

I think your sugar coating it ....

just funning you ...and you can come back to MY forum anytime you want to .....

Aside from that , I am too much of a wuss to verbalize what I think a LOT of people think about upstairs , and if you do comment on a rather rude member his fain club jumps to his defense and belittle you ...

good luck with the job, Bub, you be in my thoughts and wishes for it ..

    Thanks MM.

You know, I had an epiphany last night. I spend all day and night here in my home studio trying to keep my sanity. I keep the forums up in my web browser and try to help people as much as I can when all of a sudden last night it dawned on me, I'm just trying to replace my old habits of back when I had a job to fill that void and it's not my place to care about Cakewalk's forums. It was almost embarrassing when I realized what I was doing. So, after taking people's abuse that I don't get paid to take and shouldn't have even considered taking in the first place, I've decided I'm done.

Yeah, I'm a paying customer, but honestly, they don't give a crap about that. They got their money and they are worried about where they are going to get their bills paid next.

Anyway, you can tell after getting attacked again last night I'm done. The people who hang out up there are the dregs of society in my opinion and I want no part of it anymore. Even the song forums have sucked lately.

    Talk to you all later.

I'm going to disagree.  Cj can be harsh,  but he does help people.  When I was a young kid in Chicago, everyone use to have the attitude he displays.  My father spoke to me the same way.   It seems normal to me.  It is not meant to be offensive, or taken to heart,  but in its own way efficient.  If a harsh tone is too much for you and you can't laugh about it then you are too thin skinned....that is what they would think.

The studiogate thing is overblown.  He could have been displaying the gear as a representation as to what he has in his studio.  That kind of thing is very, very common.

these things go in cycles. only since the CH did anyone really get to big post counts, prior to that around 6-7000 was the mark before people got bored or moved on...look at the list of members and lotsa folk hit that level who are no longer with us.

x1 has really brought a new crowd in, whether for good or bad, and i guess the internet forum troll/spam world is now much more organised...plus we've had major updates to all the major daws except Ableton and Logic in the last few months.

personally i miss jinga and roflcopter, amongst others, but i'm sure they will be hanging out somewhere on the web...

I don't spend much time upstairs.  I spend more time in the Sonar Studio & Producer forum now that most people have moved to the X1 Complaint Deptarment, but I usually found the egos and yapping and general attitude in the main forum to be less than desirable and I spend most of my time in the lower forums.

Blipp is around, Mark.  He donated to Jimmy's fund.

so is AT, he posted just yesterday.  I run across him all the time in the lower forums (and I have met him personally - he lives in Dallas!)

You know, what Jimbo88 said about people from Chicago being rude ... that's one of the first things I noticed when I moved to Iowa. That whole 'mid-western' hospitality thing is a myth. Maybe it was different a generation or two ago, but people my age and younger are horrible out here. I was born in PA and lived in NJ all my life up till I moved here 11 years ago. I've never been stabbed in the back, lied to, and all around generally screwed like I have been since I moved to Iowa. Not saying everyone is bad, but in my day to day dealings with people, neighbors, people at work, it's not been a pleasant experience. My wife and I are actually considering moving out of state and she's lived here all her life.

hiding behind "culture" to be rude, IMO, is a "cop out" excuse.  individuals make the choice to be rude or not.  it doesn't matter what "everyone else" in a given area or cultural pocket is doing.

Hey Bub,  I think you might be missing the point.  Stabbed in the back,  lied too,  that's a whole different thing.  People from Chicago are not rude.   CJ does not do those things and I would not call that a Chicago thing.  In fact quit the opposite.  A guy like CJ might be quick with a line,  but if he flowered every response to appear "nice", he would spend all day typing.  That is not really being rude.  And in general, those are the type of guys who are 1st to change your tire when you have a flat.

So when you post a problem and you have a soundblaster sound card,  and there are 8000 posts pointing out the problems with soundblaster cards,  yea.. he is going to tell you to do a search and not be wasting everone's time.  And next time people will do searches.  life gets better for everyone.

And the best response when something like that happens...

"ohh yea,  Well I've been told I suck by way more important people than you, buddy!!"

And if you are looking for a great place to live,  come to Chicago.  If you live on my block, probably the 1st time you will meet everyone is when they come over to help shovel your drive way with you after a blizzard.

Bub, you might consider maybe that it is more a general state of things in this world these days. 11 years ago was the top in most markets. Markets sort of dictate the well being of the world. You just happen to be in Iowa while the whole downturn continues. I doubt if it's any rosier anywhere else. The general vibe in the X1 forum is pretty much a tame version of the rest of the world.

But, then again, if you were raised in NJ and you can't handle Utah,,,,,,,,,, Um............Huh?

    Iowa, not Utah. :)

Exactly my point ... the NJ/NY area is infamous for being rude and crude and I've never seen anything like what I've seen since moving west.

I agree, it is a sign of the times.

I disagree.  I help as many people as CJ does.  maybe more.  my post count is higher than his if that's any indication (and yes, I spend time in the CH, but the majority of my posts are helpful responses to people).  most of the time my replies are "nice" and maybe even "flowery" to your definition.  so I still contend that being "rude" or even just replying in a "curt" way is not necessary, but it's a choice.

I think part of it is just plain lack of social skills on the part of many individuals. Since the internet came along people have gotten used to the anonymous nature of it and...here we go...

...now it seems that quite a few need mandatory courses on how to be civil with one another....

The space you have will always be exceeded in direct proportion to the amount of stuff you have...Thornton's Postulate.

Internet is faceless communication and that makes it easier for me to call you all ***** ****** and ****. But that would be truly ****** and make me a proper ******  but it would be easy for you to just think ****** ***** about me back because you don't know or see me in person. So it's easy for you to call me a ******** *******, a ****** and maybe even ***** ******** ******** ****** **** ******* ******* donkey*** because it's easy since you don't have to deal with my reaction to it. But if we met in real life, and unless you really are a **** and a ****, then we'd probably have a beer/coffee/glass of water or whatever is your beverage of choice and just be friends during a good conversation.

Or maybe we wouldn't because we accept each other as long as we don't see each other, but face to face we be like cats and dogs. Who knows?

Anyways, faceless communication makes it easier for people to be rude to each others. After all, we're only really communicating with a bunch of letters on a computer screen and never see the ******, ******** and *************** who writes them

It doesn't mean it isn't fun, tho....

Common courtesy, respect, basic communication skills - These things are lost when dealing with a fool.  There is a difference between ignorance and foolishness.  If I'm listening to the other person, respecting them, and treating them with common courtesy, then I'm not a fool, even if I am less knowledgable or less experienced than others.  If I'm rude, demeaning, insulting, consumed with myself, refusing to listen, and convinced of my superiority above all others, then I'm a fool, no matter how knowledgable or experienced I may be.

Arguing with a fool is very similar to the famous Monty Python argument sketch (but less enjoyable).  You can't reason with a fool because they have abandoned reason long ago.  Attempting to conduct a meaningful exchange with a fool will result only in your own frustration and unhappiness.

Let them go.  Block them.  Ban them.  Ignore them.  Give them a "Time Out".  If and when they demonstrate a changed attitude, then welcome them back to the conversation.

If excluding them is not an option, then, sometimes, removing ourselves from the fight is the best option.  That's why some of us typically do not take part in the lunacy of the upper floors.  There's plenty of kinder, more respectful, and more humorous lunacy right here.
