I've got v1.30 firmware for both the C and R. I'll update these accordingly and keep pushing on... What do you see in X3 as far as input designations? Currently the Octa gives me signal from Dighital 1 left right and stereo, but there are no inputs that say Octa at all in Sonar...

make sure you are up to date with OctaCapture firmware (but it should be if you recently bought it) and respective drivers ...

when chained properly (OctaCapture in VS EXPAND mode) you will get all inputs from VS700 (including DIGITAL 1 which will have the signal of the OctaCapture DIGITAL OUT 9/10 as this is used as the clock sync line, and including DIGITAL 2 for a preamp connected to VS-700 ADAT IN) and all from OCTA-CAPTURE showing in Sonar ...

Maybe this helps: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/connecting-the-roland-octa-capture-with-the-vs-100vs-700/

Manual here: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/media/2013/07/OCTA-CAPTURE_AP.pdf page 12 showing port names refering to your question

First comment (I think)

Own the set, Use the console daily (everything works), the rack also fully functional but I don't need that many inputs (or the fan noise) so I also have the VS 100 which I use as an interface. all happily working with sonar platinum and windows 10. (thanks to some very clever members of this forum - to whom I extend my gratitude).

Count me too. I own the whole system. I have them about 4 years and use them almost every day. When I bought it, I said to myself finally I could find a fully compatible system like what the other companies have. I thought cakewalk and roland will expand the product and make more devices to expand the faders and the rest of the stuff that a studio might need. Not only this happened, but also they abandoned the product sooner than expected. I still like my system and as I said still using them.

I'm a Sonar V-Studio VS-700 user and I'm wonder why Gibson, which I think owns TEAC/TASCAM doesn't offer controller/mixer that will work with the present Sonar Cakewalk DAW.

Never bothered to check until l now but Tascam does have a DigiMixer with DAW interface in Mackie / HUI mode

http://tascam.com/product/dm-3200/

It's probably been in the market for a while and comes at a very competitive price compared to what we paid for the VS-700 set not too long ago ...

Whenever they release an upgrade and/or tighter integration with Sonar (probably just being Mackie control bug fixes plus customization options???) it may become an attractive replacement for the vs-700 set ...

I had the bigger TASCAM DM4800 before I bought the VS-700. It was a huge pile of crap for controlling Sonar or even working with my computer. The drivers were complete rubbish and wouldn't work. TASCAM themselves were some of the most arrogant/ignorant people I've ever dealt with when it came to support. I swore I'd never buy another of their products again after I sold it.

I do not use the VS-700 compressor at all. I use moderate analogue (tube) compression on vocals when tracking, but I refrain from using the digital compressor of any audio interface to print something onto the recording that I can as well do easier/better/reversible at a later stage with any compression plug in or simply the ProChannel compressor ...

So unless you have a good hardware compressor, experience in using it and hence get the sonic results you anticipate up front, I would not print any compression or FX on the vocal recording. Simply go for the best performance and keep an eye on the level, then do compression later as it fits the song/performance ... my 50ct

I recently bought a used 700c. It replaces a broken MCU I've used for years. A little getting used to using the track widening, shrinking, etc. as the MCU was super simple (fewer button presses) compared. Now looking for answers how to utilize the T-Bar in X-Ray mode.

I have tried a couple of times to get the 700c working in Windows 10 with no success.
Does anyone have a step-by-step on how to make this work?
I think I will do a fresh install of everything once I am finished with my current session, since I am also experiencing some weird midi-audio conversion issues.
If I can bring it back up in Windows 10 I would be quite pleased.

FWIW - I replaced my VS700R with MOTU AVBs more than 2 years ago and couldn't be happier (features, monitoring, latency, stability ... and most important of all: absolutely quiet)

YET - I'm still running my VS700C and so far I haven't seen anything that gets close.

Meanwhile I managed to complete my MIDI translation setup for Studio One (that was a lengthy exercise!) but now I run S1 and Sonar using the same knobs and buttons ... and my VS700 can control more of S1 than what the faderports offer ...

Still here, still loving and using my VS-700 Console every day.  The VS-700R is still sitting on my rack (although no longer installed in it) awaiting the time when I need it again.  I've considered selling it but I simply can't bring myself to do it yet.  I really did love that thing, for many reasons.  It's still a perfectly good unit.  Truth told, I think I hold on to it because I hate to split up the set.  Then again, every time I sell a quality piece of gear like that, I wind up regretting it down the road.  Maybe I'll have a remote project come up where I could use it with a laptop.  Who knows.  So for now...it stays.  Besides, it looks cool sitting there.  :)
