Yeah me too. The whole package. Using X1 now and hoping like hell the Fantom and the rest works with X2 in Windows 8. Bums me out that Roland is still selling the system with 8.5...... WSS

There were a number of reasons for me switching. I found the fan noise on the VS700R starting to annoy me. The better control panel software for the Octa-Capture; when I had both connected I was finding that I tended to plug into the Octa-Capture just because I could use the auto sen function to get levels easily. I couldn't tell the difference between the pre's on both units; they both sound great. Finally, didn't need the extra inputs as I thought I would. Besides, if it's good enough for Brandon and Seth, it's good enough for me! Cheers, jayson

Forgot a couple of additional reasons: Inputs on the front of the Octa-Capture versus none on the VS700 and I never figured out how to use Fantom so never got any value out of it. Cheers, jayson

Yes, pls report back as my Octa-Capture and VS-700 dont sync at any useable latency ... others are having similar problems, no one seemed to have solved them lately pls have look at the other thread where I added my problem description ( http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2510822) but got no reply. Still hoping that it's just my current set-up that's below specs, but I only started shopping for a faster number cruncher so it'll be awhile until I can pursue this issue further ...

I am new to this forum but my question has been answered... if you are running X2 don't buy V 700 studio. I have sent emails to roland and cakewalk with several questions and in each case they have answered all questions except about the v 700 and X2 and as a matter of fact they didn't even acknowledge the question.

I put in problem reports regarding VS-700 and also the MCU about a month ago. Both still have status NEW assigned which either means their problem tracking database is not working (and I'm naiv) or they just don't care to look ...

Actually recorded a gospel choir concert utilizing 700 R, Octa-Capture and added digital inputs 24 tracks in totality and had no problems. In fact, it ended up being so simple (learning lesson) I have some other choirs, etc... asking me to record them. Additional income the way I look at. No I did not take my controller out with me just used the mouse... Using 700R & OctaCapture in the studio and haven't found a need to switch the settings for reduced latency yet!!! Octa Capture does work great and the auto-sense is definitely a plus.

I just joined the "owner" ranks this week. I had looked at videos and online reviews, off and on, for over a year. I finally collected the discretionary funds and placed my order for full system. Unfortunately, I somehow missed out on this forum and the trouble many are having/(had) with X2/(X1) and getting support. Now I'm in "setup hell" as the install disk only covered Windows XP/Vista and I'm running Windows 7. So I found the correct driver and it installed OK, but the VS700 Software install halted right after the file extraction. I can't even get the transport to start/stop play. I found a firmware update, version 1.31, on Roland's support page but they have this disclaimer - "We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document." WTH??? I go further and they say - "Be sure that VS-700C driver is installed to Windows PC or Mac beforehand and that it has been properly configured as a stand-alone device (without the VS-700R connected)". What does that mean??? When I disconnect the 700R, the driver settings won't even display!!! ARRRRGGHHHH

Hi dk, there are some solid instructions about the install/update procedures in the forum. Have a careful read as you should be able to get it all running without too much drama...some nail biting on occasion perhaps but no real drama if you follow the steps in the right order and carefully. It all plays as it 'should' under W7. Cheers.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Cakewalk forums, and also waiting on my V 700 set, it's ordered, just not on its way yet. I've been using Cakewalk since Cakewalk Pro Audio 8 and update CW only when needed. I've been watching forums and know the existing issues, but can't wait to get my hands on it. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing with everyone, after all it's all about the music. Right now i'm just a will have, but it wont be long till i can say, it's mine. A bit about myself as an introductory to the group. I started recording in my own small studio, (god it's been years ago) with a fostex 8 track reel to reel deck, and over time i've moved into the DAW world. A drummer by training but also play keyboards and bass guitar fairly well, the guitar if it's a C G D song around the campfire count me in! I'll be connecting my v700r to a MOTU 2408 as the slave (I hope) as I've seen some where that it's been done and i really could use the extra inputs as my drum kit takes up a solid 8 if not more. I'm hoping that the 10 outs can be used for external gear routing and i'm sure i'll have more questions then valid answers. Thanks for the great forum input from all of you as it's made my decision to get the V 700 in here ASAP much easier. On a side note, i read in "Modern Keyboard" very recently that they talked to Roland/Cakewalk about fixing the issues known for the v700 platform and according to that article it's coming (crosses my fingers and toes.) Thanks and let the music do the talking MikeyB

Hello all of you. I am a owner of vs-700 (both parts) and has expanded with a Focusrite Octopre mk2. I have not had to many problems. I talked to a guy at Roland today and he confirmed that the update coming now will address some issues with the 700. I haven't had time to use it much so hopefully everything will be smooth by the time I am ready to produce.

I'll be connecting my v700r to a MOTU 2408 as the slave (I hope) Hi Nighttrax, I use a 2408 Mk 3 with the V700R via adat. It works quite well. I had to make the 2408 the slave unit, running in standalone mode, ( no PCI 424 card ). There is the one only ASIO driver issue, and the V700R does not run in standalone mode. The V700R reverts to master clock in most situations. I have found it faster than the PCI 424-2408. Use a BNC cable to sync the units and the 2408 manual will tell how to set the 2408.

Hi Crg and thanks for the info, I believe it was one of your post that gave me the idea it could done. I might have to touch base with you again if you're willing when i get my unit. Right now, I've had it on order for 3 weeks and my vendor still doesn't have a delivery date to them so i have my fingers crossed. From what i'm hearing they have this entire week (Christmas to New Years) off so I guess i won't get any news for at least another week. I'm glad to hear you find it to be faster then the PCI 424 card as that card as been more problems for me then I think it's worth, though when it works, it's great, but when it doesn't (I better keep my thoughts to myself on that one.) I'm hoping to use the MOTU for the extra 8 inputs so i can use the MOTU for my drum inputs (as i have them being fed through a sperate mixer) and the 700r for guitars, vocals and other when recording my band for the live tracks before starting the tracking sessions. I pre ordered the BNC and ADAT cables after reading one of your post that I found some where along the trail of researching this situation. I'm excited to finally get my fingers on the V Studio 700 as i've been dreaming about it for years, and finally saved up enough to make it happen. On a side note: garrigus, I already have your eBook in my fingers, now I just need the unit! Any thing I've been able to find I've copied, printed, linked, and backed up just incase. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! MikeyB Let the Music do the talking

Crg, I'm using an old Fostex 450 expanded 16x4 board which I'm sending the signal out of the channel "tape sends" to the MOTU 2408 currently (when the pci card decides to work.) This connection is a RCA on the Fostex to a 1/4" into the Motu. I'm hoping though word sync i can use those inputs and route the signal though the ADAT out into the V700R. I can always continue the way I've been doing things in the past, use 3 bus outs for the drums, rest for bass, guitar, drums, then go back (with the click track) and re-lay the drum tracks, then each individual instrument, voice. I was just hoping to be able to capture some better full 16 track live recording(s) when we're on a roll and have some flexibility with the individual tracks -vs- having to take a (buss mixed) track on the drums.

Ok, I'm not the smartest guy on the face of this beautiful earth and I know it. So I have a question and it's mostly for Crg who has his VS-700r connected to a MOTU 2408. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'd like to know if there is a way to get in touch so I could hopefully work out my issue. I have the 700r's Word out to the Motu Word in, then I also have a fiber optic Toslink from the motu to the VS700. My problem is I can't get the motu to "sync" or even see the VS-700 word clock so it just sits there and blinks at me. I'd appreciate any help as I know from Crg's post he's achieved this miracle. Thanks, Night
