Help with outside loops tempo syncing in Sonar.

I've been following this forum for awhile and have been helped tremendously by some of these threads. I'm still relatively new to Sonar/computer recording (ex-Roland 2480 user) and am having trouble doing something that was always pretty easy in the past. I have a ton of loops that I've made; mostly noise/ambient sounds without beats. I'm looking for an easy way to sync the tempo when I record the loops into Sonar. I can get the tempo real close but it always drifts down the line and the metronome is off from the loop. I've opened them in loop construction to let it guess the tempo but it is never close. Even when using loops with simple beatsIi can't get loop construction to get anywhere near an accurate tempo. I've converted them to groove clips but that isn't accurate either. I try to loop a few bars of the loop and then drag that out for the course of the song but looping in Sonar seems much more challenging than the hardware units I've used in the past. Any tips on an easy way to get my loops to have an accurate BPM in Sonar? I appreciate any thoughts.

    EDIT:

I've given up trying to enter links into this post.  Why is it so hard to enter a URL? :-/

Just search the Cakewalk knowledgebase for "Synchronizing audio and the project tempo" and "Editing a clip’s tempo map".  I've been trying for 10 minutes to post links in this thread and just can't get it to work.

check out "groove clip looping" in the manual.

Effectively, if you have a tempo based loop, you set it to be a groove clip, with its defined original tempo, then whenever you import it to another project at different tempo it will sync.

Thanks for responding, much gratitude. I tried those searches in the knowledge base and didn't get any hits. The loops I'm using don't have an easily defined tempo, as they're coming from a Jam man delay pedal and an old groovebox. The pedal doesn't give an exact tempo, though I can get pretty close. Eventually being off that couple of ticks causes it to get well out of sync with the metronome. The loops consist of pretty mangled/tweaked sounds so there aren't many waveform peaks for Sonar to predict a tempo. I think my best bet is the create a loop in Sonar and copy it through the rest of the song. For some reason loop creation (non-beat division) is a challenge for me in Sonar. I've had much more success on other units getting clean loops without clicks or pops. I'm wondering if a dedicated sampler like Geist or Kontakt might serve my purpose better. I love using Sonar with my other recording needs but getting these sounds to fit is really holding back putting everything together.

It's the first hit in this google search:

    https://www.google.co.uk/#q=syncing+audio+to+project+in+sonar

Go to the first page in that search, then click the "To sync the project tempo to an audio clip." link.

You'll then (also) see a box with the "Editing a clip’s tempo map" link.
