High Heel Sneakers (cover tune by Philz, ohgrant, Mooch & Bapu)
Well, Philz calls me one day and says we have to do a cover of High Heel Sneakers. There's no arguing with Phil. Grant and Paul (Mooch4056) join in on the fun. The players are: Philz - Vocals, Rhythym Guitar, Electric Piano, Clavinet Philz/Mooch - Drums ohgrant - Lead Guitar, Harp Bapu - Bass Mixed and Mastered (in X1) by Bapu (with assistance, support and cajoling by Danny Danzi, what a sweetheart!). Enjoy the High Resolution version HERE (#20 on the list) Endure the SoundClick version HERE

This is a really solid mix, Ed. Everything is audible and has a good sound. You got a hybrid of 70's sound with modern gear here which really sounds nice bro. I know how hard you worked on this and it paid off. A few more little things I need to work with you on, but this is leaps and bounds the best mix I've ever heard from you man. It really does have pro qualities and the sound selection was well done too. You'll also notice that stuff like this is a bit easier to work with when you don't have extreme gain guitars going on. It's amazing how much gain can challenge you as an engineer due to how much of the sonic field it takes up. LOL you're too good to me man, thanks for the props. Really enjoyed listening to this as well as giving you feedback. See man, you had it all along....you just needed a little push, some support, and our good friend ARC. It's changed your life too, eh? :) Really nice job to everyone involved on this also. :)

Something that comes to mind here is "distinction". When this first started playing that was what made it interesting to me. At that point is where I would more or less forget about my mindset or perception of what type, genre or similar things this would sound like. There are probably several things that would have me percieve this as i do but I think it begins with distinction. The bass has a nice smooth tone and yet the notes are all distinct as they are also melodic and tasteful sounding in the playing. The reason that I mention "smooth tone" is that it sometimes seems hard that to "get that" smooth tone without sacrificing clarity or distinction. On that thought as a bass player the other night I was playing bass with some guys (a band) and in this reference that I speak of here one of the guitar players was playing pretty mushy sounding in both his chord (tecnique) and tone. So I switched from my neck pickup to my bridge pickup and it worked pretty good in letting my bass sound more distinct (in the band). But there was a loss (even if a small one) to me in the lush, or rich smooth sound (which I think i could have gotten) without having to compensate so the band could as a whole sound more clear. That brings me to another related subject. It's like the better the "guys" are at their tone, playing etc the "better" the others can be as well. I think your song here is very well done in many ways as the guys are playing very tastefull and distinct That is why I tend to "enjoy" the "mix" and the "playing" first. It's much like listening to this from the appreciating what another guy has done on mixing (and playing) a tune. I like it.

Sounds great guys. Pretty fantastic. The only thing I didn't like too much was the clavinet sound. Maybe a little delay? Distortion?... something to give it something to give it it's own funkiness in the mix. That's really my only suggestion. It really sounds great. Peace, Ian

Sounds like the bass player mixed it. This grooves along nicely chaps, I like that clavinet sound, harmonica was great, cool guitar solo from Grant. The only thing that I didn't care for was the heavy double-tracking on the vocals all through. I might take that out of the verses and pop it back in on the chorus for some extra 'oomph'. James

@Psalmist35 - No, that was The Big White Thing (my P-Bass). Next cover tune I do will be the Alembic. @Danny - Thanks brother. You deserve all the kudos and more. Now, about those little things. I thought we agreed not to mention my little things. @Tony - Thanks for the HOTTEST three word feedback, EVER! @Scotty - Thanks I am happy with the mix. Glad you liked it. @Janet - Thanks for listening. @robby (1) - Curious is you also listen to the HiRez versions well? I think I had some hidden messages in there. @robby (2) - what's up with the 100 bux? @jimmyman - you hit the nail on the head amn. Not only has Danny helped me to hear things better, my goal was to have this mix be a distinct and clear as possible. Not sure I hit the mark 100% but just having a single commenter say what I was hoping for is good enough for me. BTW, get better we need more of your songs here. @Old55 - Well done? I was shooting for medium rare. Back to the drawing board.... @Ian - Thanks for the comment and listen. Now you've done it with the comment about the clav. If others had not said they liked it Phil would have had wanted to yet another take. @AlexTheKook - Thanks for listening my friend. @thepogue - Thanks for listening and for the comment @Warren - Thanks for the kind words. @Gregy - I know you are but what are we? @Wookiee - I'm gonna need time to absorb your comments but thanks for listening. @MrSteveStrummerUK - What song were you listening to? Thanks mate. @timidi - I Am pleased you were able to discern my part (The CHB is immune by now). Phil knows where to make that HHS connection (or does he?) @MrSteveStrummerUK - Please do not egg on Tim like that. @James - Yes I Am that guy (the mixer). I Am hesitant to tell you that it's actually three voices there (all live takes) unless that changes your opinion?

It was my first attempt at recording my Fender 600 Champ with a mic. I can say for the first time in my clumsy recording attempts, that was the tone I was after. I'm glad you liked it too.Big up to Bapu for preserving that tone and getting such a nice mix on everything else. Glad you like the harp solo it was my first attempt at a full blown R&R solo on the harp. Sorry Phil had to be the first victim. Thanks Phil for having me and thanks Bapu for all the work. Awesome rolls and turnarounds on the drums Mooch outstanding performances from Bapu and Phil in my book. Awesome job on the production Bapu. Big thanks to brother Danny for his support on this. Those are some serious results. If you're wondering Strummy, this is the one that got Phil drafted into the CHB, he never seen it coming. More thanks to come

This is real a blast from the past. The song has had 200 'official' covers done of it already and is probably the most played song in the working mens clubs up and down this country so I had to psyche myself up even to give it a whirl. The straight feel and the interplay between the instruments has given it a nice Jerry Garcia type vibe to it which I really liked. The doubled vocal c/w lush reverb has given it a really vintage studio vibe overall. I can honestly say I came in, because of what a hackneyed old track it is, expecting just to wonder "what were they thinking?" and went out being nicely entertained by it. It's kinda like some lovable kitsch. Good sounds, production and performance all round.
