Like the others here, I have to say that I am impressed with the support Cakewalk has been supplying.  Recently, I considered the jump to Studio One (VST 3 support, great midi mapping, etc).  However, it is hard to leave Cakewalk when you see their tech support all over the forums like this.

I emailed the SALES SUPPORT MANAGER of Presonus with a simple question, and have yet to hear a response. (that was 3 weeks ago).

Kudos Willy, Brandon, Zyler, Seth and Noel.  Im hanging around because of YOU GUYS.

Regarding the AVX optimizations for Sandy Bridge - would this apply to running on XP as well?

Glad you're sticking around.  I recall a thread where you were having some issues with X1 and the VS-700. Did you get that sorted out? If not, I would suggest getting in touch with out VS-700 support team.

Win7 SP1 is required for the new AVX extensions in Sandy Bridge, AFAIK.

Thanks Seth, i m still confused but that's ok and nothing new, lol.  Running XP and X1, am I likely to run into the same difficulties?

No, not that I am aware of, because those extensions. instructions won't be "turned on" in XP. That's my basic understanding of it, but I could be mistaken.

Just curious, but why are you still on XP if you have a Sandy Bridge system? You can only access roughly 3 gigs of that RAM you have in there with XP, so why not go with Win7 and pile on the RAM?

Ah ok, awesome :)

Because I am still using a MOTU 2408 mkII and there are no drivers for it beyond XP without shelling out for a new PCI 424 card.  I will update eventually, but for now, too much money going in too many other directions.

Thanks again,

Paul

Gotcha, no worries. I'd say then make sure you have 4gigs of RAM in your system, which is the max XP can see. Down the road, if you upgrade to Win7 or whatever, you should get a nice performance boost with the Sandy Bridge/ AVX stuff. Then add so more RAM and it will be a nice upgrade when the time comes. In the meantime, make some music and don't worry about it!

FWIW - I found a cheap Delta66 on ebay, so I could upgrade to Windows 7 (from my old Pulsar card that didn't have 64 bit support at the time). I paid about £50 ($75?) for it and it works great!

- Intel i7 3770K 3.5GHz
- Windows 10 Pro - 64 bit
- Cakewalk by BandLab x64
- Reaper x64
- 16GB RAM
- Asus P8z77-V mobo - using the integrated Intel graphic card (HD4000)
- MOTU Ultralite AVB audio interface
I usually use ASIO set at 64 or 128 samples
er - that's it I think...
