How come the new Start Screen pops up again even after you've loaded your file??
Is it supposed to do that? Can you make it not do that? Inquiring minds want to know.

Inquiring minds deserve to know! Mine pops up when I close a file, but I haven't seen it pop up over an open file. Did you load the file using the start screen or the file dropdown menu? If you are not using it you can disable it in advanced preferences.

Yeah, really driving me up the wall at the moment, that.
As far as I can work out, the behaviour is "re-open start screen when a project is closed". Which would work ok if the start screen appeared fast. But it's so slow at the moment, that I can easily have got over to the file menu and loaded something else before it appears.

Now that I have it defaulting to my "normal" template I actually like the dern thing for opening the last project I worked on...but...if I open a project from the start screen it pops back up again after the project is fully loaded.

I disabled it because it kept popping up when I closed a project, too. And, I've discovered that it adds 10 to 15 seconds of extra time when opening projects. This one is not quite fully baked.

Same experiences here - it pops up to annoy when I have already opened project from the File/Open. I disabled it and check it again next year after it has been developed and improved further.

It also wont open my songs that have apostrophes in the name titles! Same experiences here - it pops up to annoy when I have already opened project from the File/Open. I disabled it and check it again next year after it has been developed and improved further. Same here.

No UTF support. Internet slows startup (speed it up by blocking it in your firewall). Displays after you opens a project. Recent files shows a different order to the previous functionality. Wondering if lots of project files slows startup (no lazy loading). .. and to be honest any experienced developer would have had all this nailed if they had the time. These are all too obvious gotchas developers and QA should look out for.

As my grandma used to say, their heart was probably in the right place. Very non-functional and annoying, although, it is a good concept but, well,....as we say here in the south,....bless their hearts.... Nice to know how to disable it, thanks guys!

They are probably all busy doing the audio enhancements (the important stuff).
All we need to do is turn off the functionality anyway in preferences, and live for another day I guess, it's a shame though.

Why did we even need a new start screen? Did anyone actually request this?
I couldn't find any posts in "Feature Requests" where anyone wanted a new start screen.
With all the other feature requests and outstanding bugs, why was any time wasted on this?
Looks like a bored programmer trying to justify his bloated paycheck. Or, marketing needed some new bells and whistles to tout. It added nothing to real work flow or improved functionality.

You say that in jest, but My company does do that. Well, don't know their dreams. I recently worked on my 5 day vacation every day and expected to be available 24x7. This is however just a music program and not mission critical to anyone...

How do I turn this damn thing off?
I tried to load Splat 3 times and it just sat there dialing home, I guess. I realized I was downloading something else on my laptop. When I stopped that download all worked fine. Not everyone has a fiber connection.

Just to be opposite, I don't experience any problem with it: Platinum opens, I click the recent song I want to work on, I work on it, I drink beer, pass out, and knock over $700 microphones. Other than that it works fine.

Features evolve over time. Consider Mix Recall, Drum Replacer, VocalSync, the Virtual Keyboard, FX Chains, ARA, MIDI engine, Control Bar, VST3. etc. All of them are in a more advanced state than when they were introduced. There are already plans to enhance the Start Screen. Meanwhile, you may or may not have noticed that it's optional; you can disable it completely while you await the Grand Poobah version. By introducing features earlier, Cakewalk can incorporate feedback to improve those features, as happened with the features mentioned above. For whatever reason, you choose not to offer constructive feedback. Other people are, so the start screen will reflect these. Personally, I don't think the start screen is "there" yet. But the goal of being able to manage projects, and find them easily without having to dip into multiple Windows menu bars and folders, appeals to me. I am certainly doing what I can to help Cakewalk reach that goal, as are others. Meanwhile, Cakewalk is working concurrently on fixing bugs. Observant people have probably noticed the emphasis for August was track view, and many of the graphics issues that were fixed were long-standing and pernicious. Just imagine what kind of bugs will be fixed with a major project like virtual patch points and track-to-track recording...just as Mix Recall led to tightening up automation. Most importantly, though, my request for a :facepalm: emoticon for this forum remains unfulfilled. I've been waiting for years.

I realise this a bit of a tangent, but still... it stuns me that people think it's ok to be this rude in what is basically Cakewalk's front room. I'm embarrassed for this guy, talking like this. It's entirely possible - easy, even - to critique features and developments without personalising it in such a crass and ignorant fashion.

Seriously, it might be a good idea to add 'Beta' to every new feature (and remove it when it's completed).
Some of the features introduced a long time ago are IMO still in a beta state, though (e.g. Take lanes).
