How many of you use Pro Channel? (just curious)

As title suggests :-)

For me personally I'm finding I'm using it less and less, it just seems more practical to use the FX bin in terms of easy routing, larger EQ displays etc. Would be so much better with better routing with other plugs other than just pre or post.

So how much do you use it? are you using it less or more?

All the time. I don't think I've used another EQ in something like a year.

I'm much the same, the convenience factor and lack of having to use and manage separate windows has me won over. Plus it sounds great of course.

The only thing that peeves me is the lack of accessibility from my MCU and I'd still like to see some more routing options to and from the FX bin but TBH it hasn't at any point made me use other plugs in the FX bin yet.

I think I've used the PC for compression and EQ almost exclusively since it was introduced.

I use Pro channels all kinds of modules daily during mixing.

I especially like the Pro Channels EQ's PURE, SSL-collection series and the new hybrid EQ, Gloss Filter + the Pro Channel UAD 1176 and all the Pro Channels SSL compressors..
The new LA is great too for vocals...

Pro Channels SSL Expander/Gate are very usefull too. All Pro Channels modules are great and comes in worldclass sound. Also all Tube emulations are great too + the inclued SPL Transient Designer tool from Cakewalk. The Cakewalk version are even better then original SPL software.

I use it, but it sure would be nice if they could make the graphics scale so that on high res displays you can get more on one screen.

I've used it recently but now that I have a Mackie MCU and I've purchased a UAD-2 Solo card, I've found that the UAD plugins more accessible to the MCU than the Pro Channel.  I will likely use the PC less but still use it in a lot of cases for EQ since applying the tweaks provided by FBB makes it accessible to the MCU.

I agree that CW needs to address the MCU vs Pro Channel limitations.

I use PC most of the time and find myself only using fx bins less and less.  About the only time I use the bin is for a delay, reverb or such.  I probably use buses more that the fx bin, because I will usually put the reverb or delay on a bus and route multiple tracks to it.

The fx bin is still very neccessary for the odd plug I may want to add to an individual track, but the PC is just so convenient and the quality is pretty darn good.

I use both (Fx Bin & PC strip). The "Post" and "Pre" feature has served me well when using plugins in both at the same time, although a more flexible routing scheme would make sense at this point and complete the PC feature nicely IMHO.

I too use the PC more often.... I guess most of the time really... I'm finding the sound of the plugins quite good and the use couldn't be much easier... I still use the fx bin tho it's for the other plugins such as reverb/delay etc.

...and it would be nice to have access to a larger display for the eq but honestly? I use my ears more than my eyes for adjusting and the view is more about reminding me what I have afterwards... so the small window is working out fine for me most of the time...

I haven't got a clue where I am going with the ProChannel yet. I jumped from 6 to X1 a couple of weeks ago and there is so much to learn. I was probably a bit mad to do this, but I have since purchased all of the available ProChannel modules, so I suppose I had better get learning.

I would be interested to hear from the professional contingent here, as to whether they feel that ProChannel is indeed a "professional" tool. After all, I am assuming the the word "Pro" suggests that professional peeps should be using it. And if that is the case, are the other supplied effects, Sonitus and the like, not quite so "professional?"

I just recently upgraded to Producer so Pro Channel is new to me, but since I've discovered it I love it. It makes my recordings sound fabulous.  I have been upgrading it and here's a list of my modules I have right now....

I use it as my main rack, unless I need something else.  High quality (esp. w/ the Softube stuff) and right there where you need it when switching around channels during mixing.

    + 1 -- Sums it up.

I haven't had the funds yet, "to collect em all," like a happy meal toys.  But the eq destroys every vst plug in I've got.  And the destruction is basically a massacre.  Its instantly apparent...

I also like the way the Pro-Channel follows the mixing desk, and the track you are working on.  Its too automatic its, "extremely convenient," and as others have said, "world class sound."

Another vote for Pro Channel. It's pretty much all I use for EQ and when I need dynamics, there are plenty of choices. I appreciate the sound quality and convenience about equally. And as showed in the Advanced Workshop video, the EQ makes a great "phase shifter construction kit." I can't do that technique in any other program.

Concrete Limiter is also aces for vocals and narration. Between the CW plugs, PSP, amp sims, and Universal Audio, all bases are covered. (I still use the Sonitus multiband limiter all the time as a crossover for multiband distortion and such, and the flanger to do the tape flanging trick mentioned in the video.)

I really don't think of the PC in the same way as the effects bin. For a "days of hardware" analogy The PC is the mixer's channel strip, the effects bin is the rack with all the goodies.

    I like it too.
It has helped me settle down to some consistency and avoids conflicts I think. I've had fewer problems.
A quality reverb and delay would top it off nicely.

As I'm learning X1 I'm trying to stick to the PC as much as possible to tweak things. I figure you guys rave about how good it is so I'll work with it until I absolutely NEED to add something to the bin. So far I like it. One thing that would be nice is the option of having the EQ pop up or something and add bands. I used to always work with a ten band EQ in the past. Maybe PC does do this and I just haven't found out how yet. All in all pretty handy IMO. A lot easier than having a million eq's and junk open in different windows for all the tracks. That used to annoying the heck out of me.

I'm using PC more and more.  My mixing skills are lacking and I have never concentrated on them.  Usually I'm lucky enough to have clients who hire good mixers for there projects.  With the recent economic melt down I have found it necessary to do more of my own mixing (I still suck at it).  The PC came along at a very opportune time for me.

ProChannel for EQ/Dynamics. FX Bin for, uhm, effects. Didn't get the SoftTube bundle because of the iLok.

I'd like to see Cakewalk expand their lineup or reimagine the Sonnitus suite to fit in the PC...possibly with an 'openable' interface if neccessary due to complexity.

    Regards,

I use the EQ a lot but it has a negative impact on workflow. Late in a mix or for recall, tracking down something that bothers you turns into a double check of the PC and also the FX bin. So the more I use it, the more effort the end of the mix becomes. I wish they would expose the FX bin plug ins in its own block space within the PC. That would make it one stop shopping for correcting a track or buss if you are mixing someone elses tracks or just trying to track down a conflicting sound for finalizing. It would eliminate having to expand a track to get to the FX bin for adjustments to plugins not in the PC.

That said, the PC EQ is a really great tool. After an initial period of heavy use of the PC compressors, I just find better results with the UAD versions and have swung back to the FX bin for compression use.

    Gear: A bunch of stuff.

I use the EQ on almost every track, the 1176 fairly often, and the Tube Saturation once in a while. The advantage to the FX Bin, on the other hand, is the ability to drag an effect to several tracks for easier matching (e.g., same EQ on every one of the backing vocals).
