How to delete measures in Sonar X3?
I must be missing something but for the life of me I can't figure out how to delete measures. I want to delete the first 2 blank measures from a MIDI file (all tracks). I've tried Edit / Cut and Cut Special but that does nothing. What am I missing? Thanks Tim

The only thing you might be missing is to select Delete hole in the Edit > Delete Special dialog box

Did that already...didn't work. 1. How do I selected 2 measure and include all tracks? 2. How do I delete the selected 2 measures?

- Select All (ctrl + a)
- click and drag in the timeline from measure 03:01:000 to 01:01:000 (it's easier than trying to select from 01 to 03 ) Also make sure you've got SNAP enabled so that you're selecting whole measures
- Edit > Delete Special - tick everything

Got it! Just turns out that moving everything is the best way to delete the first few measures.

It doesn't delete the first few measure which is the desire.. I blends the measures after the first measures with those measures...

I can't believe I am still back here trying to accomplish this! How does one delete measures? Whether I want to delete 2 measures of all tracks at the beginning or 22 measures of all tracks in the middle, how is this done? When I attempt to delete the measures even though all check boxes are checked in Delete Special after the measures/tracks are selected it just leaves a blank hole.

I did check out the link. I did see the video. Either I am not understanding it or it is not covering what I want to do which is simply delete measures (and everything in them).

Yup... just tried it again and it leaves a hole. What is mean by "lasso". How do you do that. also, the video is all over the place, it deletes, then it pastes then it mutes. I have no idea what the video is attempting to show. I simply want to delete all tracks within certain measures. This is not tuff to do on a hardware sequencer.

lasso is simply left click and drag encompassing, 'lassoing' what it is you want to select, just like in the windows environment when you want to select something. there are known 'issues' with certain things in sonar regarding selection, cut/paste, delete hole etc, which when you know what to be on the look out for not doing, or doing, helps. and by 'issues' i mean sometimes certain things are not achieved the way people may expect it to be, a lot get tripped up by copy/pasting, where the paste will end up anywhere but where they expect it to be, sometimes it's just not 'understanding' sonars 'ways', and other times it is purely and simply . . . um . . . 'issues'

select all, set range of the 1st 2 measures, hit delete. select all again, cut from (select) measure 2 till end. Paste it all to measure one or wherever you want it.

select the smart tool (if you don't know what this is then its time to brush up on some sonar = this is not an insult, im just keeping it real). 1- Using the smart tool- left click and drag the range you want deleted (right in the middle part of the clip). 2- Press delete. You are confusing me severely, because you say you just want to delete a section... but then say.. "It just leaving a hole". Well yes, that's what deleting does . So possibly there is a breakdown in communication of what you actually want to do.

Not sure how I am confusing you. And no it should not delete a hole. I've stated I want to DELETE X amount of measures and all content within those measures. I don't want to leave a hole of empty measures. I want the measures deleted. Not sure how much more clearer I can explain it.

Delete hole has had issues that require data to be present for it to function. For sections that have no data, something must be inserted (slip edit audio tracks into the region, insert a bogus MIDI note for MIDI tracks). All tracks must have data for the "delete hole" to process them.
I forget offhand if that applied to X3, but didn't see anyone mention this above.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

There is a checkbox in the Delete Special dialog box which says "Delete Hole" You should always tick this if, as in your case, you want the data you are keeping to "slide to the left" after delete. But as mettelus has pointed out, it's a bit buggy and in order to work properly there MUST be data in the hole prior to deleting it.

No matter what I try I cannot get rid of the measures. With data in the measures on all the tracks I've tried Delete, Delete Special. I've tried with and without Delete Hole checked and all I end up with are blank measures I cannot delete. How the heck does someone do this? I want to delete the measures outlined in yellow! This is crazy!

like people have said, delete hole can be a little buggy. when i tried it out yesterday before posting, and again just now, i found that if it is audio tracks it seems to work fine, as expected, you delete the section with delete hole checked, it is deleted and the later parts slide over, but if it is midi data alone (as it seems is your case), or a selection of audio and midi data, the tracks with midi data will just delete the selection but leave the hole as you are experiencing, the audio tracks however will (should) work as expected. you can fix this easily enough by manual means and a little extra effort, although you shouldn't have to

This is one of the few really really annoying things about Sonar for me. You can work around it by lassoing stuff and manually sliding it if you're lucky and your project isn't too complex, but it's a pain. We're all eagerly awaiting the announced "ripple edit" feature for Sonar Platinum but there's no ETA on it.

Your first step is to select all tracks and cut the clips somewhere in the region without midi events you want to delete. If your song doesn't have any tempo changes, measure changes, or markers, you can select the clips to the right and drag them to the left. If you need to move tempo changes etc as well, there are two options: 1. Select all, then press control to unselect the clips on the left. Cut the selected and paste it at measure 75. 2. Create a new clip with one long midi note from measure 75 to 91. Select the range from 75 to 91 on all tracks and use Delete Special with close hole active. (In the current version of Sonar, you need to copy the clip with the long note to all tracks, but I think this is not necessary in X3.)

You don't click on the timeline to move/drag tracks, you click and drag directly on the tracks. now maybe you can see why I said you were confusing me. Im out. Good luck.

If you are saying that once ALL the tracks I want to move are highlighted I should be able to click on any one of the tracks to move them all? Is that correct? Because that doesn't work.

if you select all the clips to the right of the space you cut out, clips, not really the tracks as such, with all them selected you should just be able to left click and drag

Unless any of them have their position locked, I think. But usually that is something you would have done yourself (locking position).
