Great photo, Larry. What year was that taken, and what was the name of the band?

Ah, you found the Young Froglips photo!  It was about 1959 or 1960.  We were the Gentlemen of Note and played lots of high school and UofW fraternity dances.  I also played vibes in the quartet and we all played in a very active big band too.  The piano player (who also played trombone) and I played in the 1962 Seattle World's Fair Band - that was 6 months of great fun.

Cheers,
Larry

I probably saw you there. I was 11 years old and had taken the train all the way from Maine to attend the fair. I'll bet that really was a great experience! Did you meet Elvis?

Bit, are you from Maine?!

On another note, I was going to suggest perhaps running parallel tracks:  1) with the totally dry horn, and 2) with the effected horn.  Mix to taste.  You would be able to use more reverb/effects and not lose the original timbre/attack of the horn.

Great to see you here Larry!  It's been a long time!!!

Hi Spindlebox!  I just recently "upgraded" from ProAudio9 to SHS7XL.  Turns out SHS7 is an upgrade in some areas and not so in others.  I think I am starting to get along with SHS7 and it will work out for the better.

Bit,  I didn't meet Elvis but I did stand a few feet from him when he and his leading lady were getting ready for filming a scene.  Since I was a "jazz" person and never listened to rock and roll I really didn't think much of Elvis.  Many years later I finally recognized his talent.  It was fun being in the Elvis movie "It Happened At The Fair" and we got paid extra for marching around and playing in the film.  I remember one scene where Elvis was supposed to be the person leading the band down main street -- actually it was a stand-in since the cameras were quite a ways away!  But he was really there on the other few days.

Larry, it is certainly good to see you.  Interesting about the Elvis stuff!  My only claim to movie fame was a quick extra in the not-so-glorious made for TV movie "Kiss Shot" starring Whoopie Goldberg, filmed at the Fairmont in SJ.  I sat right next to her and her manager between shots.

Myself, I'm using a mixture of Sonar 8.5 and Reaper these days, using Reaper more and more, but my familiarity with Sonar and the fact it does some things a little better (not much but some), keeps me around; that and these forums!!  LOL.

Military brat, spent much of my childhood at Loring AFB in northern Maine. Teen years at Offutt AFB in Omaha, high school at Upper Heyford AFB in England, college at the University of Maryland extension for American military and diplomatic dependents in Munich. Resident of the Seattle area since then.

In 1962 my family embarked on a grand adventure, taking a 3-day train trip across Canada from Montreal for the World's Fair. Enjoyed my first ride on a jet for the return trip out of Vancouver. Elvis was a non-issue for me, not being a fan at the time. For me, the coolest thing at the fair was the machine that squashed pennies and embossed them with a picture of the Space Needle. I was 11, after all.

Wow, you sure got around!!  I don't know if you remember but I lived in Dover-Foxcroft, right in the center of Maine, near Guilford and north of Bangor.  I was there when I first joined these forums!!

I do remember when you moved from Maine to Missouri. That's like moving to another country, isn't it? Great BBQ in KC, but just try to find any decent seafood!

Where I lived, Bangor was just some distant city like Boston or New York. The big city :). The nearest big town to us, where they had department stores and movie theaters and restaurants with tablecloths, was in Canada.

I'll bet you don't miss those New England winters, eh? When we moved to Nebraska, we were warned that it might get down to -15 degrees. I remember the whole family laughing at that, thinking if that's as cold as it gets we'll be in short sleeves year 'round.

Awww man.  Yeah, I don't miss that AT ALL!!!

Kansas City gets a little hot for me in the summer (with humidity), but all in all, it's a good place to live.  I just made BBQ today at work.  Brisket and smoked turkey, with baked beans, slaw and potato wedges.

I'm glad I lived up there though.  I actually at one point lived in a log cabin in the middle of the woods and made maple syrup the old fashioned way!!!

Not many people can say that!!  Shot a rabbit and ate 'er too!!  ;)  Ayuh!
