Ok so I have Superior Drummer 2 for the closed Hi-Hats from what CJays recommended, and checked MIDI source, Synth Track Folder and All Synth Audio Outputs :Stereo.

How do I use my TD9 E. Drumset to record using Superior Drummer 2?

Now what do I do? I am stuck.. I can't hear from the synth when I click with my mouse on the drum heads. I am using the default drum kit. I also can't find the SPS MIDI OMNI for my  input source. What do I have to set my inputs and Outputs to?

Here are some screenshots of my ins and outs to help you chose which one is for me to use.
IN:

OUT:

and I got this problem and don't know what to do. I think this might be the problem as to why my drums are not sounding when I click on them.

Man is it hard to be new at this!!

Thanks for the replies

Those pictures are from an audio track?

You need a midi track, set inputs to omni on the midi track or instrument track, It shouldn't be this hard, its already set up, just insert an instrument track for session drummer 3 and you should be good to go..

I am not sure actually what this track is. the icon is not audio or midi. all I know is that it is a soft synth.

Though this might help: http://i54.tinypic.com/20i7t4i.jpg

and I am no longer using Session Drummer 3 because CJay said that only Superior Drummer 2 can do closed hi hats. But anyway I still have a problem with the Superior Drummer IN Cakewalk Sonar X1 not sounding. Only the standalone version of Superior Drummer sounds. Not so sure whats up, but all the settings in Superior Drummer either in cakewalk sonar or standalone is the same. maybe somewhere in cakewalk software needs to be changed.

Session Drummer 3 can do open and closed high hats, at least you can program them with both, i will double check playing it live though before i say for sure...

And yeah thats an audio track you need a midi track routed to the synth..

Try starting from scratch, and go to insert, then soft synth, then session drummer 3, the properties page will come up and select simple instrument track select it, the session drummer will open, select a program from the bottem left, it will load the program, and then you should be able to start playing...

How do you get a closed hi hat in Session Drummer 3?

Anyway I am using Superior Drummer 2

why simple instrument track. Take a look here to what CJays said: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2096539

If you follow those steps and change Ezdrummer to Superior drummer in that link, it works. It doesn't give you instrument tracks, as instrument tracks are not good if you want each drum on its own track... You want one MIDI track and multiple audio tracks that output each drums

Vigi, I want to have each drum in their own track (not using Cal Scrpt)

Cjays do I auto matically get a MIDI track and multiple audio tracks that output each drums when I select MIDI Source, Track Folder and All Synth Audio Outputs: Stereo? or do I have to do something after?

If that's what you want you can select "All synth outs" in the dialog..

But you really don't need each drum on its own track, Most Drum synths have their own mixer and effects plus the samples are usually pre mixed with compression, eq and reverb, , and if you look down the road a little when you start mixing all of that it's gonna burn up CPU with a compressor on each track plus it can really muddy up your mix..

Don't get me wrong there are advantages to having each drum on its own track, but I think with a synth a little parallel  compression goes a long way, and remember, with audio sometimes less is more...

I was thinking of just sending you a session template i use that has all that ready to go, but then you wouldn't learn, try using the help file a looking up Multi out synth... Then set up your own template and you will never have to do this again...

Also Why haven't you checked out the vids yet?     You can find them here...

Thanks I'll try this and report back.

If I do use simple Instrument like you say, will I be able to Easily mix each drum head seperatly after recording?
Say I recorded the drums and want the snare to be louder, with simple instrument checked can I do that with adjusting the volume like on an ordinary audio track?

and how do you know I haven't checked the videos yet?
Because I have seen these videos. What did I miss out on?

If I do use simple Instrument like you say, will I be able to Easily mix each drum head separately after recording?

your getting confused. you need not use a simple Inst track. Use multiple stereo or mono outs, and check midi source and this will give you each drum on its own audio tracks and one midi track for the midi.
If you did what i posted above, it will work. I just checked the steps and it works.

Ok so here is what is happening,

I do the step as you said (CJAYs)  for Session Drummer 3 and Studio Instruments Drums and it works, then you also told me that I needed to use Superior Drummer 2 to get those closed Hi hats.

So now I am trying to use Superior Drummer, and did the exact same steps with Session Drummer 3 and Studio Instruments, but it does not work out. Something is wrong with my Superior Drummer 2. It is not sounding like the other two. I have tried re-installing this plugin.

From what I remembered, I couldnt get a hi hat to make that sssssssp sound when it closes, like I can in Superior Drummer 2

I dont think it open and close hi hats thats the issue, here. I think its the closing of the hi hat and that sound you get form it  ----> ssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!  LOL

All I need is a closed hi hat not one that goes from open and closed. Just a constant closed hi hat will be good enough.

When I record with Session Drummer 3, I press on the hi hat pedal to make it have a closed sound, but when I play it back it sounds open.

Does this have anything to do with Drum Mapping?

I saw a video for Drum mapping, but what the video tells me is to hit a drum head and then create a drum map, go to PRV and name the drum heads. But I think that takes alot of time to do for each drum head, rim shots and especially the Ride that has 3 sounds (Tip, Head and Bell)

I think that if there is a video that showed me how to record midi drums (using session drummer 3 if possible) that would help alot.

In a video in youtube form cakewalk's channel, it also said to select Midi source, Track folder and all synth audio out stereo.

I loaded a kit, changed the outs to their own track

What do I do next?

I did not do any drum mapping.

Iv'e seen a couple of videos but are not much help.

Yes you can do open and closed hats...

Sharpdion23,

I would use mono outs for drums....

And yes in session drummer and many other drum synths you can adjust the volume of each drum after you record...
Not sure about superior drummer though it's literally the only one I dont have...

What do you have your midi cables from the module plugged into?
Make sure your midi track input is set to the device your T9 is plugged into ..

Just go into your V-drums brain and select the correct MIdi channel for it to output a closed hi hat.

I checked my V drum and the global is Channel 10

I could record now with my session drummer 3, but still can't get a closed hi hat sound.

When I record a closed hi hat sound and I play it back it sounds open, even during recording process.

I tried to do a drum map like in Blade's video for drum mapping but instead I can't hear the playback anymore.

So things are getting better though right?

Check to see what midi note is triggering the closed hat...

Any easy way is to pen the step sequencer and run through the sounds by hitting the buttons on the left with the midi notes on them...
