How to use TouchDAW on a Windows tablet

Just thought I'll post this here in case anyone wants to remote control SONAR with a Windows tablet.

I was playing around with various DAW control software, including eyoControl for iPad. Initially it worked well but then I started running into all sorts of connectivity problems. Eventually I just gave up as I thought the whole rptMIDI thing on Windows was probably flaky and the cause of all the issues.

But then I saw synkrotron's post here about TouchDAW. This one looked interesting but it's Android only. I don't have an Android tablet, just iPad and a Surface Pro 2.

After some searching on how to run Android apps on Windows, I found the best solution to be Bluestacks. Installed without issues and works well, you can pretty much run any Android app on it. It's designed for games so it is optimized for performance. A good thing if you want things to be responsive.

The biggest problem I ran into really was how to make Google take my $4.99 for the full version of the app. I mean really? So many cryptic errors when trying to pay with PayPal. Eventually I gave up and switched to a CC. I found out afterwards that it could take up to 48 hours before it will accept your PayPal purchases. Maybe tell users that instead of the cryptic error messages...

Anyway, the bottom line is that TouchDAW running on Bluestacks on a Windows tablet works well. I have not had any issues other than some initial rtpMIDI setup issues (I can help out if anyone gets stuck). It doesn't have the connectivity issues that eyoControl on iPad had (go figure!), so I'm happy with it. I think the eyoControl issues is with the eyoControl app itself. It sometimes seems to partially work, where you can control the SONAR transport, but none of the other controls would work at all.

I'm having issues with rtpmidi setup. Can you explain how it's done? My DAW machine doesn't locate the app running on the other computer within bluestacks.

This may help a little with rptmidi configuration.  I wrote about it when I was using AC-7 on my iPad to control Sonar Platinum remotely.  It works rather well and I still use it from time to time from across the room to arm my tracks to record if I am standing next to the singer or someone else before I get back to my desk.

I am trying to get TouchDaw, from within BlueStacks, to communicate with rtpMidi on my DAW. I couldn't find any info on how to do that in your linked post, but this post here said you figured it out and wouldn't mind describing how. I would be grateful if you could.

I am able to get my android devices to talk to rtpMidi. I want to use my laptop as a controller that runs TouchDAW.
