I Woke Up Tomorrow: a more drastic remix

Hello Folks,

notes from June 17:
Song is for my teenage kids home video production of a James Bond spoof where Bond (my 14 yr old son) wakes up much older than the previous scenes (because they stopped half way 4 years ago) now he's older and doesn't know what to make of it all.

Thanks for you ears and suggestions to help me tweak and prune.
I did another drastic remix this time fattening up the lower mids a bit and calming down the bright end while slightly boosting L.vocals and guitar solo.

Thank you all for your help!

the management

the song is called "I Woke Up Tomorrow"

Thank you!!!

Yeah, Rick, I'm with my friend Tony here.  Does sound Bond-ish and Gents-ish at the same time.  Cool stuff.  One thing I noticed that you might want to listen to- just the very few first lines of lyrics (where you're singing softly) sound like maybe you were too close on the mic, and they didn't sound as clear as once you got out of that soft part.  Just an observation off my first listen.

Your pizzicato splitsicato the goal post. I enjoyed the harmonease and the guitar trax. The song in general has your inimitable wreckless stile, which I find delitetful.

Awesome – there is a Burt Bacharach / After The Fox element in here (google this and you will see what I mean.). Once again, without really knowing those that you claim have influenced you, I am not sure what to make of this other than I feel it is brain food. Wonderful on the ears and a treat for the musical side of me that craves something “different and captivating”. Another very impressive piece of work. One of a kind talent here.

Hey, Rick!  this is very heavy on the left channel in the beginning.  did you intend to leave the "pop" at the beginning?  sounded like a synth tail from stopping early and then mixing down without letting the synth finish the tail (I've done this many times!)

this is definitely "Reckless Gents" sounding!!! very good stuff!

This has that James Bond feel, but scratched off-pitch lead vox might be a top priority to polish up (for this genre) ... currently it sounds like a hybrid of vintage plus indie (aka 'new').  Should you keep it like this, once I'm used to it, I may love it (as your mixes oft do me that way).

OTOH, not to be arguementative, but to my ears, 98% of your Guitars sound TOTALLY AWESOME and fresh for that vintage vibe!

It has been a long while since I have been on this site listening to music.  Most of us write typical sounding, cookie-cutter, music.  This is not one of those.

It was much fun to hear this break from the norm and I do believe you have found the 'bond-theme' feel.

    Best of luck,

Hey Roberto,  Glad to have scored!...you know how hard that can be at our age!!!  :)  It was a song that started out as a kind of acapella chant and ended up a pop tune.  funny how much you can bend these things to fit.  Thank you for the listen and comments!

Well, RickNoHow, you've done it again.  I could tell your tunes if they were mixed in with a hundred others and had no identification.  You have the most unique sound and every time I say that I try to figure out what it is I and I can't put words to it.  How great is that?  Working with your kids is a gas.  My son and I are going to do a video as soon as I figure out which song to do or write.  This was wonderful, Rick.

A great production as you usually do.  The vocals are so unique and excellent.  This piece really could be in a Bond film.  That guitar solo has that Bond vibe going on.  The tempo seemed to really pick up after the intro, which I wasn't sure about at first.  But you always make the production work.

Hi Manny!,  By all means Mr.Bacharach is a HUGE influence in my life.  I'm glad you noticed.  If i had to say who were some of the most fundamental influences for me he would be in the top 3.  Thank you for the keen ears and warm comments!

Hello Philip,   I made a few passes on the lead vocal (about 9) and kept the best pitched one.  I think the problem is your hearing is too darn good!!! :)  I'm comfortably deaf after nine takes. LOL.    All i can hope for is that it WILL grow on you...even if like fungi, since i am a fungi, i hope it grows on you.
Thank you for your impeccably merciless and accurate ears and kind words!

Hello Geno,   I am really happy you liked.  I had the whole song at the same tempo then as i listened the intro sounded very rushed and i wanted it to be like a kind of smooth sounding Bond film song with a long notes and theatrical so i slowed the beginning down from 135 to 121 bps.  It was a little tricky getting them together but i learned some things.
Thank you for the ears and comments!

Tim,  Thank you for your time and your constructive  notes.  I've got them ready for scrutiny and application.

Undoubtably you, yet you did capture the bond thing in the background too. Your songs always sound to me like you just did the one take and left it that way. They just sound kind of spontaineous and not at all contrived as if you've so many ideas going on that there's no time to worry about the last take, just get on with the next track .........

Hope that makes sense.......but just in case, yes it is meant as a compliment. :)

The first thing I thought of was, "That's a nice, deep bass going on here". I like how it's played. A very exciting and action-packed tune (now I understand the Bond comments) Always a very unique style with your music that's instantly identifiable. I liked how the energy/passion was picking up and it showed with you hitting those keys hard and a bit of growl in your voice! Nice Rick!!

Paulo,   It's scary how accurate your impressions are.  I feel so naked!  ...it is more than one take but still you've got the gist of my life tempo down pat.  Thank you for the hearty ears and compliment!

Hi Larry,    Glad you liked the bass.  It might be too loud but i'll live with it for a few days.  I wrote this little piece for my kids doing a teenage James Bond spoof.  They'll probably never finish it as their hormones are now in full gear and i'm old news .   Thank you for coming by to have a listen.

    Hi Rick,

This is just great! I have no concept of how you do this stuff but you're so consistently creative it's amazing.

Love the song and the production/mix. Great vocal, too

On my second listen...catch ya' later.
