trimph1 sharke Glyn Barnes With only 64GB of memory the iPhone 5 does not even make a viable replacement for my 80GB iPod Classic which is almost full.` Mine only has 16GB of storage. I don't store music on it, I have a premium Spotify account instead. When you don't store media on your phone, even 16GB is too much. I've never even come close to filling it. The Palm Pre 2 I have has 16Gb on it...and, right now, with something like 135 songs on it and about 55 pix plus 5 vids on it I still have 13.5 Gb on it. Some of the songs are about 20 minutes long btw.. Yeah 16GB is plenty to store songs, as long as you don't want your full collection on there. In fact I managed with a 4GB iPod for years. However, on an iPhone you're probably going to end up with a lot of large apps, some of which can be very graphically intensive and take up quite a bit of space (especially if you're a gamer). And with an 8 megapixel camera, a lot of that space is going to end up as photos and videos.

Dang it Mike... do you have any idea how easily influenced I am?? Of course, if I get the i-phone I will not be able to resist the IK products, I'll have to get the Tascam 4-track app just because it looks so cool. My older daughter loves her i-p... Also I am absolutely sure that if I get something else I will always wonder about the i-phone, I want one even though I don't want one. Back in the 90s I got a 4WD truck for my work truck. I don't do any off roadingI didn't need one, I had just never had one... that one is now out of my system. It did come in handy in the blizzard back whenever, when we had four ft of snow in N. GA, I still had to borrow some chains but we drover everywhere in that snow. Hwy 41, a divided 4 lane up here looked like a two rut farm road... it was so worth it. We drove around all day picking up and taking people kerosene heaters etc... but I digress, though for a reason... if I don't get the i-phone now I will always wonder about it. Anyway... thanks Mike. sigh... J

mike_mccue For me, I want the iPhone because the camera and the available apps blow away anything I have seen on Droid. When I use my wife's iPhone to take a snap shots the results are so rewarding that the experience is fun. When I take one with my Droid and the results are not so much. best, mike oh please, that excuse doesn't work anymore - droids phones and tablets are not worse then apple's. Rather the opposite they're better, more flexible and expandable unlike Apple. I wpi;d never buy a device where manufacture us telling me what to do, never. Also the difference in number of apps decreases each day, BTW how many apps do you really need???

On the other hand my daughter had to come over here yesterday to use a computer. She is taking some online college courses and one would not play on her i-pad. I like that you can now add a USB port to the i-phone but they REALLY should add a slot for a SDHC card and make it so you can use an extra battery or replace the battery, I don't understand why they don't add simple things like that.. and Flash... but still, maybe I should just get it over with. .. too weak to resist. No need to wait in line though... I'm sure Bapu got the first one, J

Well for what it's worth... while on vacation last month I searched every photo app available for the Droid. I'll repeat that; I searched through every single photo app available for Droid and checked out any that seemed worth while. I was sitting on the beach for a week, enjoying the beautiful weather on Lake Michigan with our large family of avid photographers and we were all having fun using our phone cameras rather than using our big rigs. We were entertaining ourselves by checking out and comparing apps and teaching each other all the cool features. Here's what I found out: There are no good stitching apps for Droid and the Droid compatible HDR apps that I bought sucked compared to what my wife has on her iPhone. But hey, what do I know? best regards, mike

But after using one primarily for business for 2 years, I've changed my mind. The "closed shop" of Apple might be restrictive, but it has resulted in a very reliable device that works brilliantly with not a lot that can go wrong. If I didn't need to rely on a phone for business, the tinkerer in me might well be drawn to the infinitely customizable Android platform. However I've seen Android owning friends screw up their phones way too many times. They'll install all kinds of dubious crap on there which hasn't been fully tested and approved. And before you know it, one thing is conflicting with another and slowing the thing down, and they're having to do a fresh install of the OS. To be honest I've never been that impressed with any software that Google has released. I've used a lot of their stuff and it tends to be forever "unfinished" and unpolished, with annoying little design flaws and bugs that seem to persist for years across versions. That is why I would never get in a Google car

let's face it, apple is first of all for technically challenged and older people although that itunes interface they come up with for uploading files and music is the most stupid and un-intuitive piece of garbage software I have ever tried to use. Plus they force you to use it, how american is that? where is the freedom? p.s. hey tell me that you still cannot attach files to your email, how ridiculousness is that?

musicman100 more calls since the new i-phone came out? I wonder if all the people playing with apps are choking the system. sharke I wouldn't put off buying an iPhone 5 just for the maps. 1) It'll get better in time 2) There are map apps available that are way better anyway. I would just put off buying an Ifone, period, because of the contrived mass hype about it,, so let me ask you ... you need to call mobile from a cell phone,, wont ANY cell fone do that ??? you want to text,, wont any equiped cell fone do that? you want apps... maps... angry birds... blah blah... WHY do you need that MOBILE? .. see what did we d before all this crap? I can see in CERTAIN instances mapping while walking ,,, what you dont have a GPS? in the car? but other than that ,,, you are sucumbing to the alter of Apple... ok Rant over , sorry, I see too many lemmings .. camping out 3 days before to buy the golden calf,,, geez... The Beatles were the object of a cult among teenage girls back in the days - and are still often wildly overrated - which doesn't prevent me from appreciating and enjoying their music. In fact, they are indeed my favorite band. The whole thing reminds me of DAW software. If you tell certain persons - including the manufacturers - that you'd like this or that feature which is available in other software, they'll instantly argue in favor of the absence of that feature and tell you that their workaround works just as well. Then when the feature in question finally gets implemented, they'll make some big claims about it and how it'll improve your workflow as if it were the best thing since sliced bread. I've noticed the same thing in regards to Apple products. For years, many PC users have put down Apple products because, for example, too much emphasis was put on the GUI or because it didn't let users tweak the registry and optimize it as much as, say, XP could be optimized. But when Win 7 shows up, suddenly, what was regarded as a shortcoming on the other platform becomes one of the highlights of Windows - it becomes a selling factor not to have to optimize Windows, to have default settings that "just work" and things that just take care of themselves. When I look at Win 8 for example, I see an early, poor and chaotic implementation of concepts that have been an inherent part of OSX for a couple of years. Notice that I'm not saying that the engine underneath doesn't perform as well or even better than OSX. The iPhone has it flaws, but overall, it's a darn fine little device. As to what we used to do before all those things like smart phones, I often ask myself the same question - ours have sure been extra useful recently. For exemple, when we went to buy the car after we moved here and the salesperson unexpectedly asked us for 3 local references w/ phone numbers and addresses, it was a matter of a few minutes gathering that info w/ the iPhone via phone/texting and Facebook messages and shout-outs. Certainly spared us a lot of time.

On my BlackBerry, I couldn't even sync multiple separate calendars to it like I can on the iPhone. I spent hours and hours researching possible ways of doing it before I gave up and got an iPhone. And it turns out email is actually better on the iPhone too. Not only that but I have 1000x more apps to choose from, and even when an app is available for BlackBerry, the iPhone version is usually 3 times better. Not to mention the fact that RIM is on its way out. BlackBerries are actually great phones for lots of reasons, but not for my purposes.

More or less they all cover all basics people's needs, it's matter of aesthetics only right now and and personal choice.

Though a quick Google search reveals something about a behind the scene for a different show on Sky Arts, so my bet would be, nope. We usually get a log of all web/TV things related to my wife weekly, so I'll double check for any mention of Sky Arts.
