I almost ordered an i-phone 5 but...
I heard that Apple decided to replace Google maps with their own lame version... I am sorry but Google has the maps and earth thing sewn up. It is their future. One day Google will make mega bucks and mega changes with their maps and earth/street images. I am going to get an HTC One X instead. I probably was looking for a reason to not buy an Apple product anyway... just the subconscious at work! BTW, has anyone else been dropping a lot more calls since the new i-phone came out? I wonder if all the people playing with apps are choking the system. J

I went couple days ago to apple store to check on mac mini which I want to purchase but couldn't get through so many people in line for that freaking phone. Tell me why people are so nuts about this and are able to stand inline in 90 degree hit because I don't get it...

I wouldn't put off buying an iPhone 5 just for the maps. 1) It'll get better in time 2) There are map apps available that are way better anyway.

I can't even begin to explain how objectively useful my iPhone is in my day to day life and in the running of my business. 1) I have my email on there, and can do all of the filing and labeling of emails that I can do on my desktop computer. I can communicate with clients & employees no matter where I am, exactly as I could if I was in my office at home. 2) I can access the internet and Google anything on the go. Picture yourself in a store, wondering whether to buy toaster A or toaster B. Now, I look at online reviews for each and get a good overview of the quality before I buy. It has revolutionized my shopping experience. I'll even read book reviews on it when I'm deciding on a book purchase. 3) The calendar app on my phone stores all of my calendars, both mine and the ones I use to schedule my employees. Every change I make on a calendar gets synced to Google calendars online, which in turn gets synced to Outlook on my desktop, and vice versa. I can be on the move all day, and deal with schedule changes and answer customer questions about billing and anything else I need my calendars for. You have no idea how much this has revolutionized my working day. I am basically no longer tied to my office, and I don't have to carry a laptop around. 4) I have a task management app called Toodledo with which I can plan tasks and projects and divide them up into sub-tasks and give each task a location context, so that my phone alerts me when I am near a location at which I can perform those tasks. This is all synced to the cloud so I can access it in my browser at home. 5) I have a business page on Facebook with thousands of followers to keep happy with photographs etc. When I see a relevant photo opportunity, I can snap it and immediately upload it to the FB page. I can also coordinate FB advertising promotions with my phone. 6) The camera is so good it's replaced my point and shoot. I no longer have to lug that around with me. 7) I have instant access to weather and news 8) I have instant access to my bank accounts 9) I read books on it with my Kindle app, as well as pdf's with the Adobe Reader app. 10) I can take quick notes, either by typing them or dictating them. Saves carrying a notepad and pen, or a dictating machine. 11) With the Shazam app, I can point my phone at any music that's playing and it will immediately tell me the artist and track. I have used this so many times. Imagine you're in line in a store and some great jazz is playing and you'd love to know who it is. Shazam. So amazing. I could go on all night really. My iPhone (and indeed any good smartphone) is exponentially more useful than a regular cellphone. I can virtually run my entire business on the move. To do the stuff that I do on it without the phone, I would quite literally have to carry around a huge backpack full of gadgets and books. What did we do before all this crap? We got by. But progress is about turning your back on just "getting by." What did we do before telephones in general? We got by. But we had to send telegrams and letters.

Sure, these are things that you can get on virtually any smartphone. But the iPhone is definitely a cut above most smartphones, in terms of smoothness and fluidity and responsiveness. Plus the retina display is so sharp that even the tiniest text is clear and easy to read. It means you can get so much more readable info on screen, especially for things like calender apps. I almost switched to the Samsung Galaxy II last year but in the end I just couldn't downgrade to a lower resolution screen.

Call me a lemming all you want. I prefer the Apple product hands down. I won't be standing on line for one, and still have the older model of the iPhone 4. But when my contract is up, I'll get a newer one-- and it may not even be the 5. It's a good product, and I trust it.

My iphone 4.. is in MINT condition. When I bought it.. I bought one of those, "silicon plastic protective cover," things.. The cover is kinda wrecked.. lol, I should replace it, but the phone itself looks brand new... Meanwhile, I just downloaded IOS 6 the other day.. Its nice.. but.. um.. Why do I need a dual core phone to post on facebook and send text messages, and keep track of my contacts? They are making the smart phone out to be a desktop or a laptop and its not.. Its not a big huge screen, or a workstation. Its not something with enough ram to load, "10 instances of Dimension PRo, 10 Intances of Rapture, and 1 Sonar Project with 22 Audio Tracks and audio on them." I'm afraid I can just, "replace my plastic cover," drop my phone, "1000 more times," and it will still be in, "mint condition," in 2016... No joke.. Those silicon covers are the real "hi tech," and the Gorrilla glass is the real, "new tech." the hard drive, the memory, and even the chips in the smart phone.. nothing to call home about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, pun intended

For me the first problem is I have a pathological prejudice against touch screens. They make me cringe every time I have to use one. My current Nokia 2 or 3 year old has a QWERTY keyboard with real buttons which is handy for text messages. I have web access on it but I have only ever fired it up out of curiosity, I have only used the camera occasionally on the rare occasions I wanted to photograph something and did not have my SLR or compact camera to hand and I have never used the music player. The only non "phone" feature I ever use is the note pad, and then only occasionally. I think my next phone will be a really cheap really basic model. With only 64GB of memory the iPhone 5 does not even make a viable replacement for my 80GB iPod Classic which is almost full.`

I don't store music on it, I have a premium Spotify account instead. When you don't store media on your phone, even 16GB is too much. I've never even come close to filling it.

I travel a lot to many countries and I find my iPod most useful when I am in a remote location, even where I have access the roaming charges would be crippling.

I have a Droid X that I have enjoyed. My wife has a 4s iPhone that I envy for it's fantastic camera and all the great photo and sound apps that are available. We had observed that my maps app, which I use every day I work on the road, was far better than hers. The recent iOS upgrade included the new maps on her iPhone. Now every time she runs maps her phones crashes, it says the battery is dead, and then requires a reboot. Sometimes she can't get it back up and running for several minutes... at which point it confirms that the battey is fully charged. She just demonstrated for me... and she couldn't reboot it up until she plugged it into the wall charger... not ideal for driving. And once again it confirms that her battery is 100%. I was planning on buying the new iPhone as soon as the frenzy cooled down... now I'll wait a little longer. Bummer. best regards, mike

All I really need a phone to do is to make calls and check the weather. I suppose if I had a good maps app I would use it too. I've tried buying a couple of different MP3 players and just couldn't get excited about them and threw them in the drawer after a couple of days. Maybe I should just get a free phone and an i-pad. I'll check out the Galaxy but the HTC looks really good and is only 99 bucks, the i-phone is 199.00 plus, I don't know. There is something about buying an i-phone that I cannot put my finger on... I just don't want to do it. I really don't know why... just bucking the trend I guess. I am glad to hear they changed their mind on the maps, that was a stupid idea. J

For me, I want the iPhone because the camera and the available apps blow away anything I have seen on Droid. When I use my wife's iPhone to take a snap shots the results are so rewarding that the experience is fun. When I take one with my Droid and the results are not so much. best, mike
