I don't like the multi-dock.
It grabs and steals effects just because I dared drag 'em there. Insists on hosting the prv Insists on hosting the region effects I'm sure it's claim to fame extends beyond those instances too. From my perspective it solved a problem that did not exist and is a nuisance. Can we please have an option to just make it go away? Thank you.

I LOVE the MD. I wouldn't want to use Sonar without it. I'm not sure how I did it, maybe it's because I float the MD, but PRV no longer goes to the dock when I double-click MIDI clips for editing. I am also able to drag FX/Synths around without them being "captured". Region FX do still go into the MD though.

Keep in mine that the MultiDock is meant for single monitors for the most part. It works well in that situation. I have my CV on a second monitor. But there are Screen Sets that can be set up for anyway you want to view Sonar. I know of users that put the Mutidock on the second monitor. Really there many ways to set up Sonar.

The multidock is vital to my workflow . . . you can drag it out to just the size and height you need, then also try "Shift-D" to go full screen Multi-dock, then toggle "Shift-D" again to return to half-minimized Multi-dock. ("D" will minimize/ hide it again)

Sounds like you're still on X3 or an early version of 2015. Some people didn't like the behavior either, so the Bakers kindly changed it at some point last year. Dragging effects to the MultiDock area no longer docks them. When you do want to dock them, hold down CTRL.

Are you stuck with a single monitor setup? I can't imagine using Sonar with a single monitor, and for my workflow. The multidock is my 2nd monitor for all practical purposes.

I join the "I don't like MultiDock group". Also I don't like FX window recycling. I can keep things well organized on my two displays without MultiDock. It's OK for some items but for example Melodyne is a thing I want to make full screen on the 2nd display. Unfortunately SONAR always opens Melodyne in the MultiDock - undocking, moving and maximizing takes only two seconds but still I'd like to decide myself if I want things be opened freely floating rather than in the MultiDock. Fixed sized effects/windows look bad in the MultiDock. I'd like to undock empty MultiDock. Maybe it becomes possible in the future. New users may love MultiDock more than me. I got used to the SONAR workflow in pre X1 era. Screen estate has never been a problem for me because I always use dual head setup unless doing mobile recording (but in that case I don't do any editing, just recording). That said, I don't want to get rid of MultiDock. A few enhancements and it may become my new favorite part of SONAR.

I only use a single monitor, which is embedded in my laptop, and the Skylight UI (incl. MultiDock), Screensets, X-Ray (to show/hide plugins), Plug-in Recycling, etc. are what makes SONAR very special for me.

YES!! THIS!!!! GUIZ!!!! They got rid of the annoying auto dock stuff sometime last year! Instead of having to hold Ctrl to AVOID docking a floating window you now have to hold Ctrl to DOCK the floating window. It confused the farts out of me at first until I realized the change and I think it's awesome now. I used to hate to be careful where I dragged stuff lest it get sucked into the dock. Now it doesn't happen unless I go OUT OF MY WAY to make it happen (by holding Ctrl). I'm actually surprised at some of the posters here who haven't noticed this. I figured I was more out of date than most of you guys (Manchester... still, finishing some projects). Anyhoo... it really was one of those ultra simple changes that made my single screen workflow MUCH easier. The Dock itself is brilliant for single screen users as well. "D" is one of the keybindings I have completely ingrained in my muscle memory where I can have my eyes completely closed and engage it from anywhere I'm sitting in the room within arm's reach. Along with Ctrl + Z Ctrl + Shift + Z Ctrl + A Ctrl + Shift + A Spacebar (of course) and on the days when I'm FINALLY done being a knob biting, OCD wanker... R (the most loveliest and exhilarating of all the keybindings) ;-)
