I have to agree with John T on this.

Sure, you can buy an enormous bundle and the price per plugin is low. But how many of those plugins do you actually use, and how many of them did you actually need before you bought them? How many of them duplicated tools you already owned?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I paid $2352 for Mercury during a sale. So I paid $18 per FX.

Care to explain that to my wife? ;) Kidding - she spoils me already.

Plus, I don't need Mercury or even Gold, just  that CLA bundle and then I'm good...  Oh, and Maybe JPP's Classics too. And then maybe...

Honestly, the way I see it is that even if I never had the opportunity to put my hands on the hardware version of most of those things, they are an integral part of the sound I'm after. And the Waves models, unlike some others, seem to give me something that's so much closer that familiar sound, not just somewhat reminiscent.

That is another point, yeah, though more one to do with personal preference. The idea of having a 150 plug-in bundle with 20 compressors and 20 EQs and 20 whatevers gives me the screaming abdabs.

"Ability to earn free products" - sounds like Mary Kay / Avon / Herbalife pyramid marketing. Maybe you pay to become a street rep and are then encouraged to sign others up?

I joke, because in reality it's about time somebody in this industry approached marketing from this angle.

When it comes to plugins, online discussions are easily as influential as magazines and trade shows. But vendors are still pursuing name engineers for endorsements, and planting favorable reviews in print media and blogs. Meanwhile, a dozen nobodies on KVR or Gearslutz are over there trashing your product, being read by thousands of impressionable noobs, and cancelling out all your marketing efforts.

They just need to be careful how they implement it. There is a fine line between a volunteer advocate and a sock puppet.

Funny that Bit mentions Herbalife.

I was on their IT team during their heyday.

When told that getting an HP-3000 computer (our 4th) on a same day order and the overnight shipping alone would cost him tens of thousands of dollars he simply signed the P.O.

The internal running joke at the time was that if MH dropped $100,000 out of his wheelbarrow on his way to the bank, he simply could not be bothered to stop and pick it up. It was pocket change to him.

I have my own Herbalife anecdotes, but if I related them here that ethics-challenged (purportedly!) company would likely challenge them as slander, and I'd lose a lawsuit and be forced to take licorice root until heightened blood pressure made my head explode.

Hi,

I wonder if any of you guy can give me any wise words.

I'm not technical and getting sonar and waves vsts to work together has been long and tortuous. I've got sonar X1d and just upgrades to v9 of waves with the hope of running my Maserati plugs for the first time since I bought them 9 months ago.

Well it loaded and hey presto it all worked all fine and dandy. The next day I was unable to complete the vst scan, getting a series of error messages about missing files includes waves.ddl. When I stopped the scan I could open Sonar but couldn'thear any vst instruments. I've since deinstalled waves and the scan runs.

Currently when I play existing projects I hear audio but no midi. If i load a new project I can create and hear both.. I'm very confused and hope you guy can help. I'm sure its something simple around the config but i'm not technical and worried i'll make things worse.

I've logged this with Sonar support on the 25th but to date had no response.

Regards

Neil

You'll do better to pursue this with Waves support, as it's an installation issue with their products rather than a SONAR issue. Waves' installations are more complex than most plugins, so there's more that can go wrong.

Hi Neil,

Did you manually move any of the files installed by Waves? That is the first No-No. Second, did you remove or modify any of the VST paths in X1 preferences?
