I don't know why, but I always pictured Pertwee in a Led Zep tribute band. Black Dog would never be the same...

I was introduced to the good Doctor in the early '80s (1980 or 1981 I think) at a friend's house in Chicago. PBS was airing the Tom Baker episodes every Sunday night. A group of us would gather in one home, crowd around the TV, hold a segment of the 20' scarf our hostess knitted, and watch the show. I was hooked from day one. I don't know what eventually happened to that scarf.

I think the first DR Who I saw on NC PBS was Tom Baker. I remember several different actors playing Who. Of course, all the others get measured and compared to the first one you see. And they all seemed to put their own personality into it, and of course, Baker to me was the quintessential Dr Who. The rest were just a bunch of British actors trying to play the good doctor's part. Bless their limey little hearts.

you see, Jon Pertwee came before Tom Baker (and there were 2 before Jon Pertwee). The series started in 1963.

I started with the original..William Hartnell (I can just about remember the big locust thingies) Always thought Richard E Grant would make a great Dr Who, as would Ben Cumberpatch.

Honestly guys watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9P4SxtphJ4 he gets it. Dr who is about the triumph of of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism Ive also attacthed a certain pic of Tom in his latter life and it looks like he is gearing up for a very certain role next year. I grew up watching the show as well and liked a lot of the older Doctors. But I have to say the new kid Matt Smith does a great job as the Doctor.

I got hooked on Dr. Who last year, of course, I only watched the reboot 2005 and up series of Dr. Who, but I think in those, David Tennant I think is the best Dr. Who as far as comedy timing, etc... Anyone catch the spinoff series, TorchWood??? I started watching it, but I think it kind of fell to the wayside:)

Matt Smith is brillant but the casting of the last three doctors have all been brilliant. Torchwood series one and two can be a little mhe but Children of Earth, Kiddies as alien cocaine now thats cool (not really) and Miracle Day are excellent. Peace Ben

David Tennant. Hands down. He actually had a range of emotion as a character. "The Girl in the Fireplace" being my favorite episode.

She was very good in that role. I also liked Michelle Ryan (Lady Christina de Souza) in the Planet of the Dead episode. I was sorry she was only in a single episode role.

They've done a good job of choosing actors for Doctor Who. Especially, the Doctors. Tennant is my favorite, but I like them all. I loved Sophia and Michelle. Either one would/will make a great companion. I just saw Catherine Tate on the US version of The Office. I caught myself thinking "What's Donna doing in Scranton, Pennsylvania?" I understand that she'll be there for a few episodes.
