I actually like it now too.  Got my go to templates pinned, got my most recent stuff at the ready.  That's all I need.  If 6 seconds of wait time is ruining anyone's day, perhaps it is time for some decaf or something!

I'm warming up to it now that I've spent the time to create more templates, and am working on several projects simultaneously so pinning is invaluable. If Cakewalk has indeed fixed the delay of its appearance, the Start Screen will not only remain enabled, but be well on its way to being a welcome addition.

I like the concept but my problem was it would come up, I would close it, it would come up again, I would close it, I would work, I would close the project, and it would come up again after closing the project. Probably good for working with several projects at once but my work pace is usually one project at a time. Maybe it could have a setting for just opening the one project. It got to be a hinderance moreso than a help so I turned it off. We'll see what comes down the pike the next couple of updates.

It's all A-Ok with me.  Haven't done it yet, but seems it would be great for templates.

Oh no! Cakewalk would never fix anything if you didn't heroically fight for us all. Please don't stop.

It wasn't you who threatened to punch his lights out was it JT?

I'm not really interested in internet wars, but I can't let this pass. I have never - and would never - threaten anyone over an internet discussion. If there's anyone on this forum who's enough of a horrible idiot to do that, I've not noticed. But I definitely don't want anyone having the impression I'd be party to such a thing. And I think it's a bit out of order of you to imply I would.

I'm sure the reference was to SONAR's "punch" function, and how turning it off makes the record light go out. I've threatened to punch out of takes that weren't good myself, and make the record light go out.

I only said I've never threatened a person. I'm sure I've flung the mouse at the monitor promising a harsh and bloody formatting to the computer before.

I am extremely upset with you for not posting that on YouTube. I'll let it slide this time, but you've been warned.

Can I just say that I like the Quick start menu and use it all the time?

It's a bit on the slow side, no mistake, but apparently this will be resolved in the next update.

I still think that the new start screen would be some much more useful if it had an mp3 preview that can be played of the projects in the screen.
When a project gets saved, a 5 second clip of the project can be saved along with it and that clip can be previewed in the new start screen.
Yes, I put in that request with CW and in the request forum but don't think it went anywhere.

Nice idea as an option, however this will increase save times, so Cakewalk would have to be extremely clever on how and when the preview gets made, you don't wan't it to happen everytime autosave kicks in for instance, and you would want it to run as a separate process. Also I would prefer a FLAC preview myself (not mp3), 10 seconds of FLAC will not take up much disk space at all, it will sound better, quicker to make, and there won't be any licensing issues.

Could just do similar to AD2 and buffer/save the main outs. If audio is passing through main outs, it can also be printed to disk.

As with any change of this sort, on/off functionality must exist for those with resource-challenged machines.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Re: I like the Quick Start. (Am I allowed to say that?) 2015/10/07 14:50:10 (permalink)
Yeah.... I'm not sure a short preview would help me much.   A slow intro of any kind could bypass that five seconds (or more), not to mention any empty bars at the beginning.  I guess there'd have to be some way of determining what portion to preview.

And back on topic - good to see that performance is being addressed in the next update.  I've been in the 2 second range from the start so it'd be nice to see others have the same experience.
