I really need clarification on this issue from CW. There are now many conflicting reports.

Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk]
As Ryan indicated there were issues fixed with MIDI out. There was a well defined deadlock that *was* fixed in X3 as well as crashes related to MIDI out. So saying nothing was done in this area is grossly inaccurate.
There is a residual issue still on our radar with how MIDI echo is handled in combination with MIDI out VST's. I'm assuming that that is the residual problem that you still see and we will continue to investigate it.

Noel, I'm not denying that issues have been fixed. Since I can't test X3c, I'm relying on information I've been gathering from various threads. That tells me the main issues have not been fixed, as described in CWBRN-1336 and CWBRN-2504. These are:

  1. Crosstalk into unrelated tracks while recording and there are VSTis that have Enable MIDI Out turned on.
  2. Sonar crashes when more than one VSTi have Enable MIDI Out turned on and they send MIDI notes out at the same time.

Point #1 has been confirmed by swamptooth here. However I must admit I'm not 100% sure he talks about the MIDI crosstalk from VSTis into other tracks, but from all indications that is what he is talking about.

Point #2 has been confirmed to still be reproducible by both you and Lance Riley. CWBRN-2405 doesn't mention Jamstix. It mentions Catanya. Maybe Jamstix doesn't cause Sonar to crash anymore, but we know Catanya still does. So how do you justify closing it as fixed then? I think it is a fair question.

Sorry for repeating myself, but it seems everyone wants to re-write history and also claim that bugs have been fixed that clearly were not. This whole thing has been incredibly frustrating for me, and to have to keep repeating myself to prevent this from being swept under the rug due to incorrect bug report closures is also quite frustrating.

I have not been using Sonar as my DAW for a few years now, but seeing the emails that the bugs that caused me endless headaches have been "fixed" piqued my interest. I was interested to start using Sonar again but I wanted to confirm these issues have been addressed since they are showstoppers for my required workflow. However they clearly have not been addressed.

I hope you understand my frustration, I'm not trying to be difficult.

Yup and again SilkTone brilliant job, looks like you are now (finally!) in a position to move this one forward with Cake.

The forthcomingness we've witnessed in this thread is pretty amazing.

Cake should say thanks so much silktone for putting so much time into this and we are going to get this resolved and it has been moved to high priority.

This is one of those things that should just work and not require tons of crashes and then giving up and then looking for a solution outside of cakewalk or moving to something like bidule that does proper midi routing.

At this point, please just get it working, that would do much to heal all wounds.

Stoutlyric should have would have could have!... I would suggest reading the entire thread again rather than attempt to create yet more bad feeling from your rather simplistic viewpoint. It's not about taking sides it's about getting the issue resolved and that has already been discussed to death, Cakewalk is effectively under new management, the past is the past and we all need to start again... Cake are doing a tremendous amount right now to heal wounds, I could not expect any more from them right now. If you talked to me about this a year ago I wouldn't have bothered replying, Cake to me was a four letter word, not any more. Time to reboot and start again! Both Silktone and Cake have made great points, Silktone esp was right to bring up the past, it is valid. Now it's up to them to draw a line, start agaom. and work together... that starts with reporting the issue again.

Recently I've been getting my recently reported bug replied back within 1 to 4 weeks, which I think is pretty good going.

+1

Realy hope the efforts of Silktone and the upfront engagement from cake mean this bug gets fixed in an upcoming patch. Be great to put this to bed and finally use Sonar midi out from more than one vsti.
