I smiled at Yoko Ono today

Hudson St, West Village, New York, about 3:30pm...

A short woman is walking toward me and I notice that she's peering at me above her sunglasses. Then it dawns on me, holy crap that is Yoko Ono. The look says "You're going to recognize me aren't you. Don't even dare acknowledge it."

So I smiled at her. A big, over the top, cheesy grin. And she scowled at me!

I was so shocked that I didn't even get a chance to tell her that her albums are the musical equivalent of tinnitus.

I remember when we started borrowing DVDs from the Cirque library, one of the ones I wanted to see most as a die hard Beatles fan was, of course, All Together Now, the making of Love.

If I had any illusions left about Yoko Ono, they vanished there and then. If the words "All Together Now" were ever used ironically... What a ?%$#.

Ya should have whispered to her ... "Ah Bowa Cowa Posse Posse"

I've had that song stuck in my head every since I saw your thread thank you very much. :)

I always found it strange that she still lives in the Dakota building after all this time. Right where Lennon got shot. I guess the amenities must be pretty good.

Try and audition to get an apartment in Dakota - you'll understand why she isn't leaving.

I'm convinced it'd be easier to win the audition to replace Lennon in the Beatles than it is to get an apartment in that building.

I'd rather live in the Ansonia building on 73rd and Broadway...some of the most soundproof apartments in the city and once home to Rachmaninoff, Mahler, Stravinsky and other noted Sonar users

I'm glad she scowled.  Now we can go back to disliking her and not feel guilty about it.

Actually someone did that to me ... and I was not upset ... but immediately said loud enough so he could hear ... "you would think that he would appreciate one person that says nice things about the band and the work ... oh well a$&holes will always be rock stars!" ...

So if she wants to be a cynical, ugly, malicious, vindictive, idiot ... be my guest! No wonder people can't stand her ... because there is ugliness in there after all!

Fear is a funny thing ... takes away your peace of mind and heart ... and she has never grown past that ... and smile ... because she was a part of one of the most influential things in the 20th century ... and you can not ask for more ... there is nothing else to ask!

Maybe it is just me but I think fame and fortune should be accompanied by an understanding that strangers are the reason you have fame and fortune and that you should make effort to treat strangers with civility and patience. I doubt John would have done that. He even stopped to answer the kid who shot him, his last words were spoken to a stranger and I doubt he would have changed if he had lived.

I could be wrong though... wouldn't be the first time.

I sometimes wonder what Lennon would be like if he were alive today...I met George when I was a kid, my aunt was his housekeeper/nanny for some time in the late 70's/early 80's and he seemed like such a normal bloke, at least from my 8 year old point of view. I walk past famous people in New York every so often and can't help thinking "get over yourself." Katie Holmes about a year ago in Whole Foods, she had the kid with her and a huge burly bodyguard. He was standing guard on every aisle they browsed, giving the menacing look to any creepy looking guys who might dare to take a picture. Jeez I was only going to post it on Facebook, not as if I was going to send it to the New York Post or anything.

    Hi,

I have met, when younger, people that were, and are, way more famous than rock stars ... many of which are just absolute idiots and morons craving attention and playing the game of attention for the media so the girls and fans think they are morre important ... and you get impressed!

Wooooppeeeeedddddoooo!!! You really think that I'm going to uphold Bapu before Aldous Huxley? Or TS Elliot? ... Doesn't mean I don't love Bapu and appreciate his bonk'iness, but the others have taught me something important about me and the art ... Bapu ... not sure yet, although he is teaching me to not take things so seriously as before ... that's a good thing!

You really think I will ignore Picasso, or Dali at our house in Lisbon, and go kiss some rock song writer? Or ... here's a good one ... The Rolling Stones! .... even the Beatles!

I have spent my life supporting the improvement of the popular music to higher levels of appreciation for it being more than just a song ... but Sir Paul writing another 3 minute song for radio ... is a bit boring and does not add to his musical legacy ... in fact, I think it lowers it! But seeing "Tales from Topographic Oceans", or A Passion Play, or Tommy, or Quadrophenia, I know that folks my age can do "classical music" as good as the masters out there! And this is the part that is hard to discuss in a place like this where most everyone is simply looking for acceptance and understanding in a musical life that has not given it to them enough, however fair or unfair it might be!

All in all, of all these people I have ever met, no one was more "real", "caring", "loving" and "wonderful", than Daevid Allen and Gilly Smith ... who are not afraid to talk to you and have fun with you ... just spending an evening with Gilly at Fred Meyer's looking at Halloween costumes and stuff she could use on the show was ... priceless ... not to mention that both her and Daevid are probably the only two "beat poets" left out there ... well, three ... Tom the Poet is out there also!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

    My Yoko story. (post #14)

Amazing, I mean when it all comes down to it she just a famous groupie. Although I wonder if the security thing stems from having stood next to Lennon when he got shot. A couple of years ago I had, in the course of my business, occasion to visit Donatella Versace in her suite at the Waldorf Hotel in Manhattan. She had what looked like an entire freaking floor. And lining the hallway which led to her suite were huge, hulking, armed bodyguards with the shades and the earpieces. I thought who the feck does she think she is, the President? And then it dawned on me her brother got shot didn't he. Oh and by the way I never say this kind of thing about anyone, but she is gross.
