In case it wasn't obvious, I was being facetious in my previous post to make a point. In general, I'm not a fan of hiphop or rap, but I respect the talent that is required to do it well, just like all genres of music. And creating good music that can keep the listener's attention using "simply" one chord is very difficult to achieve. edit: this wasn't directed at you, CJ! Just a clarification of my earlier post. But, somehow I think you're right...

I would love to hear his masterpieces that come so easily as well. But remember, he said: I think I've found the perfect type of music that's easy to create. So he says its easy to create this type of music, but he never claims that he can do it well or create good music. I have a feeling his "EZ-Trance" "productions" might not be up to our standards. And by "our", of course, I mean humans with intact hearing. Of course, if his "productions" were played underwater, we may see many a dancing coelacanth...

If you have been struggling for years to write various genres of music, maybe it's time to do something else. Actually, I've been struggling to stay awake while reading this thread.

I may not like a certain genre (like trance, rap, country, etc.), but I would hope I can keep enough of an open mind to appreciate the talent when I see/hear it. Most of the time, if pressed, I think people (or at least those of us who enjoy making music - I have little faith in 'the masses') will recognize great music...whether they would actually choose to spend time listening to it on a regular basis is a different story.

The way you go on with "One has..." and "One likes..." seems to me to be the epitome of snobbishness. I know YOU weren't being a snob, but it SOUNDS (reads?) like some English high-falootin tea and crumpets "Butler, a snifter of brandy" "Quite. The Queen mum is looking simply ravishing, indeed." type of dude. Anyway, back to trancetalk... Wait, wait.....there's the kick!!! If one is not able to find value in all forms of music then one is short changing oneself. Snobbishness is the refuge of the ignorant. I think the main thing is not to bag on one form of music because you don't like it. I think it's the condescending attitude that would make someone a "Music Snob". Not the fact that they don't find value in one style or another. I don't feel as if I short change myself because there are many styles of music that I do not enjoy or find personal value in. I also do not think I am a snob because there are certain styles that I don't care for. I respect each individual's ability to enjoy what they enjoy but also to dislike what they dislike. No snobishness there. Just don't go around knocking what others enjoy just because you don't. That's my .02 cents worth anyway.

(Note think wise old master voice in head when reading this) All music is a good, there must be variety for one to have a preference. What one knocks musically actually puts ones favourite music on a pedal stool. If you took it away the music you knock , it would take your favourite music from the pedal stool and bring it to the floor = less important and less valid to you. What makes it to the prized position is different in each and every one of us. It is important that there are differences. To knock others is a bit mean and short sighted. TO knock a genre that has been sucessful by the fact it has been given the genre status shows one to be bitter or jealous. Love all music...just love some a little more than others !

I am sometimes amazed at they way I can find or learn something useful from a song or style of music that is not one I typically enjoy. Also there are no absolutes for me. While generally speaking there may be genere's that I simply don't like, it never fails that along comes a song or a variation on a style or something that catches my attention and inspires something new in my approach that can be integrated into my style or sphere of influence. Thats a big part of the beauty of music. So many influences creating so much inspiration that people bring into their style of music to become some thing new and exciting.
