I'm wondering if it does something during "encoding"

I just compared the site to my original 320kbps mp3 that I uploaded. It has a rounder sound and sounds a tad more compressed than the original (to me).

yes - the only way I have managed to keep similar clarity is to upload a 24 bit Wave file. Takes a while but sounds tons better.

I'll be performing some tests tonight.  I just couldn't get to them last night or this morning.

daryl - that's too difficult.  there's no way I'm going to export a 24bit wave file to upload to soundcloud just to preserve the mix.  I'll go somewhere else first.  like my own website...

Why is it too difficult? Yes, it takes longer to upload but actually, not much longer.

it does take longer to upload and the files you export are larger.  normally I don't upload wave files to soundcloud anyway, I normally do 320k or VBR mp3's and those are a lot smaller than 24bit wave files.

and yeah, daryl's right - you can't update your songs unless you have a paid account or you have to delete them and upload again on the free account

the 29 Euros / year account allows you to update your files

yep.  I have that lowest premium acct.  I thought I'd try it for one year.  but if soundcloud is compressing or changing my files I'm not going to want to "re-up" if you know what I mean next year

Re:I think soundcloud adds compression to songs. 2012/05/29 16:15:17 (permalink)
If I'm not mistaken, Soundcloud makes an MP3 out of the file you upload. I think, it anticipates you uploading a high quality .wav. So, if you upload an MP3, it's going to convert it again to 128k MP3 ... I think. I used it once and it destroyed the sound quality of the file I uploaded and I never used it again.

I use www.box.net. It's free and it's very fast. They automatically email you when someone listens to your song. It doesn't tell you who it was, but it lets you know how many times the song has been listened to and downloaded.

The only thing I've run in to with box.net is, when I update the file, I have to create another link. You're not supposed to have to do that, but I always have. Not a big deal at all considering it's free.

bub - it's not supposed to do that.  soundclick does that, but soundcloud is supposed to allow you to stream any time of music file from mp3's to waves and is not supposed to convert your files to an mp3 of their chosing like soundclick does.
