George Martin's half-speed gimmick wasn't done because he couldn't play the piano (or harpsichord) well - the guy is an accomplished, classically-trained multi-instrumentalist. It was mainly done for the unusual tonal result: the low notes on a piano are richer harmonically than the high notes. Nowadays, we'd have a number of alternatives to achieve the effect, such as layering another piano sample.

I never play at half speed, but then I'm primarily a piano player and 140bpm is within my natural comfort zone. But sometimes I need better precision than my naturally sloppy technique normally affords. So here's my trick for managing difficult parts, fast or slow: play the part at normal speed but don't worry about hitting the right notes! Only worry about getting the timing correct, even if it means playing obviously-wrong notes. With wrong notes but in the right places, it's fairly easy to subsequently repair the performance in the PRV.

That's exactly how I do Keyboard parts...as keyboards is my weakest instrument though. But go for velocity and timing feel, the note fixing is easy...yea it's cheating but I've done this for a very long time and my keyboarding is getting better every time I do it.

Here's another cheat along the same lines. If you need to create a harp glissando (if that's the correct term), just drag your finger across the keyboard with the sustain pedal held down. Then open the PRV and delete all the notes that aren't in the scale. The result is a remarkably realistic-sounding harp run.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I have an all audio project where I want to add a MIDI piano. It's too darn fast for my playing skills.

Yer just gonna haf to wrk on yer chops. I'm experiencing the same problem with some keyboard synth parts and changing the tempo from slow to a faster tempo is yeilding satisfactory results.
