I wonder ...

... can you get away with knowingly providing false information as long as you provide the disclaimer that it's 'your opinion' ... after the fact?

Just curious.

I see it all the time on TV. Whenever they have panels of financial councillors or investment advisor's they usually have weasel words that tell you that the opinions of the panel members are theirs alone and have nothing to do with the station.

Bub, I always find it's just easier to 'fess up and just say I made it all up.

Sometimes I prefer to brazen it out to see if I can make the BS seem real enough that even I can believe it though.

You just need a complicated graph to illustrate your position on the subject.

    Here's one...

As you will appreciate, I've deliberately neglected to include any reference on the graph as to make myself look more knowledgable than the rest of the plebs.

    I understand this graph fully.

It shows how much you have to shift from your original viewpoint on a particular topic when you realise through reactance that people have exposed it as being a crock of horsemeat and therefore you feel a need morph it into something completely different to what it was at the outset.

Is it known as the McQ factor?

So say for example you wanted to signify at the beginning that your observation was about good suppliers of products and then decided to turn that observation into a thread about about, say again for example, building a custom mic from stock parts this graph then signifies the amount of shift that is occuring from that original standpoint as the thread progresses.
(edited to add some theoretical examples for illustration purposes)

I loved that TV show in the first season. After that it just seemed to be reactance repetitive.

... can you get away with knowingly providing false information as long as you provide the disclaimer that it's 'your opinion' ... after the fact?

    Just curious.

    This is the internet.

Any opinion different than one's own is always "false information".

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
