I've Been Checking Out the May Early Release...

I tested out Ripple Edit...

I can delete Hole, even if no data is in the selected area and it works. If I have Ripple Edit Selection checked, only data in that track is shifted. If I have Ripple Edit All checked, all data in all tracks is shifted from that point on.

I tested Ripple Edit by moving clips around the Timeline by dragging the clip headers. All seems working as expected so far. It feels very nice and solid.

The Copy/Paste Special options are working as well. I copied selections that contained Markers and Tempo Changes. All worked as expected while still respecting my Ripple Edit options.

I very much want to read the EZine!

Good to see a new Limiter to replace Boost. I've held off buying and have been happy with Concrete (ok so I didn't really hold off completely). I was hoping this was in the pipeline after after the LP EQ and MB were updated.

Must have been a bear to implement with such a senior code base.
Kudos to whomever put in the days to get this done.

Just had me first play on my Surface with the pen and it's loads better for adding and editing notes in the PRV :)

Re: I've Been Checking Out the May Early Release... 2017/05/27 12:06:10 (permalink)
HI:)

Can't find out how to work with Ripple Edit:(

Just a simple track with 4 Clips!
In that order 1,2,3,4
Tried to take 1 clip and move it, but then all of the other clips are selected too, so I copied clip 1 and moved it between 2  and 3, ok that works, the other clips moved too.

But how can I just change the order, maybe 1 is a verse and 2 the chorus , how can I only change the order to
2,1,3,4 ??

Can't figure out how to do that with Riple Edit. Ctrl is for Copying, Alt is to Cut, all other combinations do nothing..

What must I change in Drag and Drop Options and what shall I take for Riple Edit, All or Selection?
I've tried every Combination but no effort!
Maybe I don't know nothing about these gestures (whatever this is) in the description for Riple Edit..

Thanks,
Bassman.

Re: I've Been Checking Out the May Early Release... 2017/05/27 13:58:26 (permalink)
Most straightforward way to rearrange like that?
Select 1's range in the ruler.  This is easier if you have markers because it's just one click above the section to select the range.

New to 05 is that selecting in the ruler if there's no selection selects all, so you can easily select a range for rearranging/export/etc. in 1 step!

Turn on Ripple Edit All in Track View -> Options.

Cut the range for say section 1.  2 moves to fill in the space where 1 was.
Set the now time to the end of 2.
Ensure the active track is the top one (name is highlighted)

Paste.  Now you have 2, 1, 3, 4

Or you could just test this! (Knowing what this is dates you )

So far Ripple Editing works great, once I found it under "Options".

Also worthy of note: There are new keyboard shortcuts for the revised PRV functions, and the old ones are back.

I've sent it to the Bakers for proofing, a release this comprehensive means more opportunities for me to make mistakes . Once they sign off, it will be re-launched with the official 2017.05 release as an actual magazine. I already noticed a few things I missed - like I forgot to mention in the section on Ripple Editing that ripple edits move markers and tempos.

The first issue is over 50 pages, so it was not a trivial undertaking . I've already started on the June issue so as not to fall behind.

My father and his friends used to drink Ripple while playing cards late Friday nights in the living room.   They would talk a lot of junk to one another, but they sipped the Ripple and laughed a lot and kept playing cards to the early hours of the morning.

I gotta say...the more I work with this release, the more I think the Bakers really did an exceptional job. I assume that given the magnitude of the changes there will probably be a few things to clean up, but overall, between Ripple Editing, the Pen, the PRV additions, the Adaptive Limiter, and the fixes, this is pretty darn amazing.

Hey guys, this is probably a really stupid question (R.S.Q.), but is anyone else having a problem finding the Adaptive Limiter? Where should it show up? I checked the obvious Plug-in Browser and I didn't see it. This seems all the more odd as it appeared that when SPlat started, it did add a plug-in to my list. (I didn't note which one it added; I kind of guessed it was Adaptive Limiter).

Thank you for indulging me on my R.S.Q.

Yup, I asked an R.S.Q. In my haste to see what Ripple editing looked like, I didn't DL the Engineering package update. Can you help me find where to do that? Do I need to sign in to my account? Engineering package isn't an option in Command Center for me....

Thanks for the quick reply!

While not necessary to do it all, the complete 2017.05 early release requires rolling back
  • SONAR Platinum - for ripple edit, SONAR updates and fixes
  • Engineering FX Suite - for Adaptive Limiter
  • Platinum Instrument Collection - for updated Ultra Analog Session 2
  • Boutique FX Suite - for updated TH3

I was amazed by all the updates under the Platinum heading when I checked. This update was bigly indeed.

If you see updates required in the Command Center, they are not related to the early release. They are updates already officially released. The Early Release updates only show up in the rollback menus of the affected installers.

Yes. I got that; my language was imprecise. I meant to say that I found all the Early Access under SPlat.

I had a project that would not stop at end even though I had tried all the suggestions in various postings about this problem.  I searched thru all automations, looked for hidden midi events, selected all tracks and did the delete hole routine, checked for hidden tracks, etc, etc.  I even temporarily deleted every track and buss, and still nothing would solve this problem on this one particular project.  But then thankfully ripple edit comes along - Solved in about 10 seconds!
