Figures.  Just curious, but with it all said and done, did the offenders profit from all this?  If so, I'd definitely be on the lookout for a repeat (which, hopefully, your new deterrents will prevent).

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Man, I did not ask my insurance company that question.

I was hoping, however, that they would simply take possession of recovered stolen items themselves instead of me paying them back for recovered items.

I know that many of the things I turned in to my insurance were "damaged" items and damage to the house.  (where they dropped my computer and monitors and broke them and dropped my acoustic guitar and broke the headstock) and the insurance company took my word for the damage and reimbursed me for it and I still have the broken equipment.  they DID do a depreciation of all of that equipment which was damaged, so I didn't get full value for the broken items, but I was perfectly fine with that.

having said that, I my assumption would be that if I were to get my stolen items recovered from the police, that I would be able to assess if the items had been damaged after they left my house and I would at least be able to continue to receive said settlement from the insurance company, or at least most of it.

it sucks that the insurance company won't do that for you.  maybe it's a difference in policies or a difference in how Washington insurance laws vs Texas insurance laws...IDK.

The detective said he attempted to speak to the young men next door, but they weren't home. According to their parents, they've moved away. If true, that could be the best news of all.

Did the thieves profit? Yes. I estimate they got $300-400 for the two amplifiers, based on the price tags Guitar Center had on them. Don't know about the keyboards, as they ended up at a different store.

I put some of the blame on the retailers who bought the gear. GC knew the going retail price and it was obvious the amps were still new. Another retailer bought my keyboard without a power supply. Don't they even verify that the equipment actually works? Not if the price is good enough, I guess.

So yes, crime does pay. At least enough to score a few day's worth of meth or a bag of weed (which, btw, they missed).

You don't have to go pick it up do you? Unless there is something they found that you want back, I would take the position that it belongs to the insurance company now. Let them deal with it and see if they contact you about wanting a refund or something. I know it may sound dirty but if the situation was somehow reversed they would do everything they could to weasel out of it. (not a big fan of insurance companies)

I would like to see someday a form of a database where Music stores and pawn shops can check serial numbers to see if something is stolen.

There actually are such a databases, kite. Unfortunately, each music store and pawnshop maintains its own and they do not share data. My keyboards were found by the music store itself, using their own database. My amplifiers, however, were not flagged by the retailer (Guitar Center) but found by me by accident. Guitar Center still has my ADAMs, because I could not find the serial numbers for them and could not positively identify them. That's OK, because they were damaged and I didn't want them back anyway.

If I had to do it all again, I'd keep my mouth shut and let the gear disappear. That would be my advice to anyone who goes through this. That was my advice to Beagle: don't go looking for your stuff.

Allowing thieves to get away with their crime is an unfortunate consequence, but as I found out it's easier to recover stolen property than it is to catch and prosecute burglars. If you do get your stuff back, it accomplishes nothing except to aggravate your own pain. I have suffered a financial loss equivalent to having had no insurance at all, making me wish I'd put my money into cameras and alarms instead of insurance premiums.

At the moment, I have still not reclaimed my stuff. I left a message at the PD a week ago Monday, asking where I need to go to get it, but they haven't returned my call. I'll send them an email next, in order to document that I tried.

Anger feels good temporarily, but is ultimately wasted energy. You don't hurt the target of your anger, only yourself.

Bit FTW

For me, easier said than done.

Bit, I'm glad you are nearing personal resolution.  Time heals, but the scars always remain to remind us.

No videos yet. We're still trying to get 4 solid sets of material together!

We'll know how solid the set list is by 1:00 AM Sunday. I have a strategy: if I forget an arrangement I'll just blind the audience with flashy cheap licks.

I do intend to record the band, though, once I've been re-equipped with a DAW. Hopefully, that'll be before the end of this month.
