Another reason::: I use a MAIN OUT bus for analysis and consistent volume level: The MAIN OUT bus is the FIRST bus, easy to see, quick to access.... This is the listening bus. The MAIN OUT bus controls the monitoring volume sent to the audio device. The MAIN OUT bus does NOT have "effects." And no envelopes. The MAIN OUT bus has monitoring tools: Voxengo Span, vintage meter, Panipulator (required). THIS IS WHERE ARC goes. The MASTER MIX bus is next, it is used for bounces, exports,.... ALL final effects are in the bin. This bus is output to the MAIN OUT bus. The MASTER MIX bus has envelopes. For exports:: Export from the MASTER MIX bus. No need to disable any inserts in the MAIN OUT bus. Fewer bits to remember. Fewer mistakes. No need to do stuff that does not need to be done. --------------------- For bounces::: I add at least two blank tracks labeled MIX1 and MIX2, to projects. These output to the MAIN OUT. NOT directly to the sound device. I change the name of the mix tracks (add the date) BEFORE bouncing-to-tracks so the wav file will have a name that reflects the name of the track. This is useful. No need to bypass the effects/eq, or change the volume setting of the MAIN OUT bus when listening to a mix track. Or, disable ARC. I then solo the mix track to listen to the mix(s). Which is routed through the MAIN OUT bus. And all the analysis tools are the same, and quick to open. And because the MAIN OUT bus volume is the same, I can compare, audibly and visually, the mix with the original tracks. Per CJ's insight, if the mix does not sound correct, before I do anything else, I use control-z (undo) to remove the mix clip, and the wav file from the disk. This means I have fewer orphaned audio files. When a mix is happy, I copy the mix wave files to a folder in the CD projects folder for CD creation. I use Sony CD Architect. This program reads 24 and 32 bit files and applies dither, when needed. during CD making. This means I rarely export projects.

jm24 The MAIN OUT bus has monitoring tools: Voxengo Span, vintage meter, Panipulator (required). Very interesting approach. Could you please elaborate on Panipulator ... what is it and why is it required? Further questions. I assume you put ARC after Span and metering, correct? Also, I didn't fully understand the purpose of the two mix buses. The purpose of one that is used for exports is clear, but I didn't get what the other one was all about. Could you clarify?

Panipulator is a useful tool to quickly flick to mono, and to swap channels. http://www.recordingreview.com/blog/panipulator/ The MAIN OUT bus is NOT used for mixing, for bouncing. or exporting. The MASTER MIX bus is for all of this. The MAIN OUT bus is essentially the same as the Hardware outs. But since I place the MAIN OUT bus as the first bus it is quick to change settings, to open the monitoring tools. And because the MAIN OUT bus is only for listening, I NEVER have to remember to disable any effects to listen to the bounced tracks, export,... And the bounced track, sent to the MAIN OUT bus should sound and appear to be exactly the same as the whole mix. If not, something is wrong. ARC can be the last effect in the MAIN OUT bus. But placing another instance of span after ARC is interesting.

Hmm, I just received my ARC System ... wrong damn version, they sent me TDM too. I really annoyed at this - I checked my Order, Invoice, and screenshots from ordering and I did NOT order the TDM version for Pro-Tools - why would I ???. I suspect they are just sending out TDM because they need to get rid of the stock, and there's a mic in there so it's not something you can just write off so easily like you can with old software. If that is what's happening, it pretty rude. If that's NOT what's happening, then IKMM have serious dispatch issues they need to sort out. Either way, there's something happening that they need to get sorted. So, time to jump through more IKMM hoops to get this thing running - I'm not a happy chappy right now, I'm thoroughly livid ! Thanks Tim, got it sorted now, it's just a bit of an inconvenience. It's fun and games taking the measurements - I was looking for instructions on how to set up in a broom cupboard or wardrobe, 'cos that's about how my lack of studio space feels. I haven't really had time to play with it much, but on a quick initial test it seems very effective. I'm looking forward to the weekend when I'll have time to really give this a work through. Cheers - Cliff

Need Help. I just bought ARC online from an "authorized" IK dealer; they had only 6 left. When I openned the software package it only had TDM software, not the native vst I needed. I had ordered the native vst; they only had 6 left. I now see that this distributor sent the TDM version, and they had little orange stickers over each of the TDM labels, blocking out the words TDM . I suspect that this is because companies are dumping their stock of ARC in anticipation of the new version. Didn't others have this trouble also? I have a serial number. Can I register it and then download the native vst version software from IK? Thanks Cecelius2

Just got a couple of pms from IK Obi; he is going to help me get this straightened out. I opened a support ticket, then immediately realized I had entered one number wrong for the serial number on the support; so I opened a second support ticket with the correct info. Sometimes it hurts to be me. Thanks IK Obi for doing this.

IKM has always been a tech support nightmare for me. I certainly won't upgrade to ARC-2 anytime soon. Thankfully ARC is working well in its 3-leg'd-horse-mode (32-bit in 64-bit Sonar) ... without any glitches.

IK OBI helped get this all straightened out and I should be fine. [on edit: Installed Arc. Took measurements. Working fabulously. Nice tool!] Thankn IK OBI! Philip: Are you saying you can't run ARC in the 64 bit domain? It looks like there is 64 bit software--at least that is what I see in the description of the download file I am doing.

IK Obi Your more than welcome to, but the next time you need to install new IK software you'll have to reinstall it again to authorize it. We prefer the current registration process to iLok or other authorization management. Hi Obi, just wanted you to know how great it is to have such a helpful representative frequent these forums as much as you do, but I would have to disagree with that statement for the record. Just finishing up building a new system and some of my IK plugs are down to 1 and 2 authorizations remaining. This is only the second computer I have ever installed any of them on. The plug-ins and softsynths protected by my ilock was as simple as, dragging the old data from my old HD to my new and it's installed and working. Not so with the IK authorization process. I'm starting to look at the ilock not so much as leg irons anymore but an easy way to back up my licenses. I much prefer it over IK's. I respect your position and don't hold you personally accountable for that but a big +1 on IK authorization suckage. Don't fool yourselves, all the extra hurdles that a customer has to go through just to get software they purchased up and running puts future purchases from that customer in jeopardy. How effective is all that really. Seems to me it only keeps the honest people honest. The thought occurred to me when I was restoring a back-up of a game "Half-Life 2" from my old HD to my new, that's the way it should be done. They use a security program called "Steam" I installed this game about 8 years ago and haven't had to use my install disk or go through any authorization to get the game to work. I simply launch steam input my username and password, steam updates and launches the game. When done I can then close steam. Freaking brilliant IMO. I do have ARC and love it BTW, big thanks to brother D Danzi for that recommendation.

@cecelius2 Thanks for the kind words! I'm here to help. :) @OhGrant Thanks for the compliment and suggestion. I'm actually very familiar with Steam, that would be a cool idea and something we have talked about, especially with the AmpliTube Custom Shop being such a hit. ;)
