Don't have a middle mouse button.
The only way I've been able to get it to scroll is by grabbing the header bar of the top/bottom most module and click and drag. What that does though is swap those 2 modules over because that's also the same way you change the order of modules. I'm open to being taught how to make it scroll but I haven't found it yet.

Neither do I. Obviously if you are using a regular 2 button mouse the easy answer is to replace it with a three button.

If like me you are using touchpads there is nearly always a gesture to replace scrolling. On my laptop it's an area to the right of the touchpad can used or on my main DAW it's s two fingered gesture. (No not that sort!!)

Bought expanded and gate last night, I'm very impressed, all you need now is a good limiter to add to it :-)

I bought expanded last night, but not the gate/expander.  I rarely ever use a gate.  but I agree that a good limiter should be on the plate for the near future!

I'd like to see a limiter here...as it is I'll be checking into the expanded for sure now that I found that it will support UAD as well...

Downloaded it last night. Only had a quick play but very impressed. Within a few minutes I had a far better 6 sting accoustic sound than ever before (using a Variax 300 electric emulation). PC is easy to use, love the quick load option.
FXChain 2 is super, pulled a preset and added an additional control saved as if I had always had the function.
Not used the Expander Gate yet.
Feeling inspired.

I actually prefer Cake concentrate on more neat "utilities" like FX CHAIN 2.0 as opposed to trying to compete with some of the major (and great) 3rd party plugin developers (like Fab Filter, Izotope, etc.)

FX Chain and "Replace Synth" and some of the other features in Expanded are _useful_ indeed.

I didn't buy the PC Gate either (don't need another gate), but Expanded is well worth the money (though it probably should have been part of "DAW 2.0" initially - but oh well).

So unless Cake gets some great plugin programmers, it seems to be another limiter or gate just isn't going to compete with companies doing plugins full-time as opposed to host software.

Boost11 is not my idea of a 'great' limiter, for example, when compared to almost any other 3rd party limiter.

BUT, when Cake comes with really strong added value addons like Expanded, it seems to be a better fit for them and for us, the users, imho.

It's called a mouse isn't it. i've not seen one of those before:

Stuck using laptop at moment and a mouse just isn't going to be a practical addition at this time. Most other software that supports scrolling I can use the up and down arrows on their own or with a modifier key to scroll - I can scroll other features of SONAR this way why not the PC?

Yes, 3rd party joint development with Cake would certainly be a good approach, as has proven to be already :)

Cake has done some good 3rd party packages (anyone remember Sonitus?  René?).  I haven't tried the soft-tube thing yet, I hope I get surprised.  But using 3rd party people is a win for everyone.  Cake gets to stick to what it does best and choose the best to do the rest.  That being said, I'm impressed w/ Z3TA+ 2 and that seems to be done in house.  So bakers, don't take offence and send me your a special version instead of the real mccoy. ;-)  You guys are really smart and handsome and I love your dog and mothers ...

Mudgel, have you tried clicking in the PC area first? My cursor changes to a scroll bar type thing when I mouseover the PC & try to scroll but won't actually scroll until I click in the PC area, then it works.

Definitely agree you and Billy regarding third-party features.  I would prefer to see Cakewalk focus on the DAW itself and leave the specialty tools to the third-party developers, and I really like their approach of implementing third-party designs (e.g., Softube).  I really love the Eiosis E2 De-Esser and it would be very cool to see Cakewalk implement a limited edition of it into Sonar/expanded.

I upgraded to Expanded last night. I do think it starts up quicker and I really love the FX Chain 2.0.

Another thing. I have been having this issue with Sonar X1 only allowing one instance of Amplitube 2 or AmpegSVX. Any more instances would crash Sonar. Combinations of Amplitube and Superior Drummer 2 would also crash Sonar.

As of yesterday I do not have this issue anymore.

Something went terribly right :)

Re:If you are already using PC Expanded - give us your first impressions. 2011/10/07 15:02:05 (permalink)
FWIW (FWIW was a Buffulo Springfield song back in the 60's and one of my favorite),
I have upgraded to X1 Expanded and bought Softube.  I tested the FX Chains and applied many of the presets to see what they sounded like.  All in all, I am very happy with the upgrade.

For me, the sound of X1 is excellent.  I hope that all you long time power users will get the extra functionality you want with both the PC builtin effects being stand alone VST's to select if you want as well as the ongoing issues with notation and screen space.
However, since I am not a power user but use X1 for songwriting on a very extensive basis, I really appreciate what Cakewalk is doing for me.  As I was creating a vocal chain out of Sonitus modules to compare to PC, I found that I did not prefer the sound of the Sonitus chain vs. the PC.  I always used the Cakewalk PC64 for gating and compression but now it's PC all the way for me.  So, today I may not use the FX Chains because I am finding I prefer the sound in the PC more.  That may not be true in the future so I applaud in progress in growing X1 to better accomodate chains and 3rd party tools.

I am also hoping for a PC limiter as others have stated recently.  I am not without my  own issues with the software but at least I am creating in an environment that is very productive for me - maybe not for all.  So today I am very happy with X1's progress and enjoy creating songs with it.  It has been easy on my checkbook over these past years and I just hope that Cakewalk will be around for a long time to come.

That would be one of the first expansions I'd want.
You've already got models of 1176 (aggressive) and the SSL Bus Comp (incredibly good for drum subs)
The LA2A's softer/smoother comp would be a perfect fit.

Re:If you are already using PC Expanded - give us your first impressions. 2011/10/07 15:52:14 (permalink)
I got the whole bundle with zta+2 and the Gate. Besides Expanded it self I knew I'd (ab)use the z3ta+2 but the Gate kind of just came with it. Just got paid some royalties and had money to burn

Thinking I'd never use it, I had a look at it, stared at it for a while and put it away. I have the Fabfilter gate and have always been very happy with the Sonitus Gate.

Recorded drums for two songs yesterday in a different studio and while mixing them into a song at my own studio I remembered the new Gate and thought I'd give it a go and was very surprised over how well it performs! At least on drums. Gave it a go on some vocals too and some spoken words but that didn't quite blow me away. It worked but for that I have other gates. But for drums - it will probably be my go to Gate.

I have great expectations for the Pro Channel now and I sincerely hope it will be further expanded with new modules so you can equip it to suit your needs. And if they manage to make the same quality modules as the Gate and the Saturation Knob then I can see Sonar become extremely dangerous in the DAW market.

Another thing I just discovered: When deleting a synth from the Synth Rack in the browser (is there any other kind?) I had the option to delete the related tracks as well. Very handy and a much missed feature for me.

To me, expanded is worth every penny.

Also being able to use multiple instances of the Pro channel plugins on a single track would good too, so you could maybe have the PC76 compressor first then EQ than another instance of PC76 or even the PC4K compressor.

As the PC gets more complex, I think the idea of an FX bin insertion point becomes a more and more useful idea.

One way would be to make the FX bin itself (optionally) be a module within the PC. And allow multiple FX bin modules in any given strip. Unless I've got my stupid hat on, I think that would allow you pretty much any combination you wanted of PC modules and VSTs.

Agree with Jim, LA2A and a really good Limiter would really polish off Pro Channel.  The ability to use multiple compressors with in PC could also be very useful.

Have not used the Gate yet, but have already used the Saturation Knob on a song that I am finishing and it sounds REALLY good.  It did n't take much, just a little went a long way.

I can scroll other features of SONAR this way why not the PC?

Mudgel, have you tried clicking in the PC area first? My cursor changes to a scroll bar type thing when I mouseover the PC & try to scroll but won't actually scroll until I click in the PC area, then it works.

My cursor changes to a pair of vertically opposed arrows when I hover over a movable switch or something but no scrolling. Clicking within the PC area does nothing with the left or right mouse button. I'll keep trying.

Something went screwy with the whole scrolling ability. Reinstalling driver fixed things and I can scroll within the ProChannel. Yippee!
