Im expecting everything to close soon
I am thinking that the servers will be pulled and reality will set in soon. We keep asking for the bakers to do some last minute fixing. Guys the office is locked the Janitor has the key and no bakers can get in. They are applying for jobs at Pro Logic Cubase Studio One. There is no more cake to bake. Lets face facts. It's Over!

I think you're right.....that's why, now is the time to make the transition to greener pastures. Those that are holding on, are holding on for what? Cake hasn't said anything since the announcement of departure. For those still holding on to a life vest, you're close enough to the shore to stop screaming for help and put your feet on dry land. Tide is moving out. Wake up and smell the coffee or the napalm.

The captain has already jumped of the boat or should I say been pushed off. We are still on the boat wondering if the captain will help us. The captain is already sailing on another boat and the crew are scattered. Some are here still sailing on the same old boat wondering where the boat is going.

The owner of the shipping line has already forgotten this boat and has now turned his attention to the rest of his ill-feted fleet. At least wooden guitars can float. The casual observer through his telescope wonders for how much longer these nautical-disaster analogies can last.

Using that analogy, as long as the boat is not sinking, which is not atm, I see no risk in drifting along for a while. Not sure why there is this drama about it as if our lives depends on getting a new DAW right NOW!! . So if Cakewalk stops working in a week, so what? I assume anyone with half a brain has taken every possible step to try to save what can be saved from the work they have unfinished. Jumping to another DAW is not one of them though, at least not for me. I have saved what I have finished to audio. I have the scores for the finished and unfished stuff. So if cake goes tits up and I am forced somewhere else I can do that. But I do not want to, and see no reason to do so, unless we get some updates saying otherwise.

Who cares! S1P is actually so much better. I wish they would have done this before so I could have gotten on a good DAW before now. I had no idea there were so much better DAWs. Better late than never! S1P has a better workflow, better options, as good if not better plugins and FX, more content, and takes less CPU. It's a far superior DAW in my opinion. Yea there are a few things missing, but mostly things I don't use much and there are many other things that are welcomed additions that I will use. Blow a hole in that boat and sink it! gabo

I'm rapidly coming to the same conclusion, and that's after only around 5 hours or so using it.

Gosh ... we never thought that the song was that important or meaningful. Now, hearing Richard Harris sing that one more time, makes me feel like ... wow ... a true geek ... can sing better than most singers! Fine actor, though ... really fine actor!

This is usually the case with a lot of "leaders" these days ... they did their job ... closed down the competition, and now they can continue their work at the real company they belong to! Come to think of it, in College Football, it is just about the same thing ... loyalty? Go get yourself another whore!

It sounds interesting that you guys like Studio One so much, I think that is promising. If at some point I have to change DAW, it is good to know previous users of Sonar like other systems. Personally I could care less if it says Sonar, ProTools, Studio One or whatever on my DAW, I am not loyal to software in that sense, all I care about is usability and time sunk into it. Time is one BIG reason for why I want to use Sonar until I can't. Spend countless hours with it and that is an investment much more important than the few dollars spent buying the damn thing. It is the reason I am not swithching at this point. That time is too valuable to be thrown away unless thereis no choice. Will be interesting to see what you guys think after a month or two, given this place is still around of course :)

I was expecting a final release to allow operation without Cakewalk servers. If Gibson does not take this step it will be unforgivable!!! They have a black mark in my book but failing to do this will drive a major backlash from me and possibly others... Long live Cakewalk Sonar!!!

Just out of curiosity, how do you work with projects? I usually only have a few going, the finished ones I can't lose like that because those are exported to audio format and I always write out the charts for them. And after they are done I usually never go back and mess with them, and even if I would I have all I need in the scores and charts. So at worst I would lose a few open projects if everything just dies out of nowhere.

Well if you took a break from starting threads about Cakewalk, you could go and back them up then get them started in S1, if that's what you're using now. As mentioned above, why on earth do you care what anyone else is doing?

If Studio one was so great, you wouldn't be here trying to motivate everyone to stop using Sonar. You would be using Studio one all day, trying to learn its new features. It's depressing enough thinking about the possibility of Sonar going off line without heaving someone rub it in our faces. Studio one is a great DAW, so is reaper and Cubase. But so is Sonar. There might not be any more updates but its still working fine offline here. I did the off line authorization and the way I figure it, I can use Sonar for another few years until I slowly work my way in to a new DAW. Rather than running around in a frantic, panic attack buying a new DAW that I didn't research properly just because im so worried about Sonar. So what are your promoting ?? Trying to put fear in to users to go out and buy a new DAW ASAP because "Sonar could shut down any minute now".

I'm not rubbing anything in. Sonar was good for what it did/was. It continues to be stable strong and robust. I like the product as much as John. But I like to keep things real. If cakewalk said tomorrow we are still running Sonar and a company came in to buy it I would be very happy.

So, S1P is so much better for you because even though it has missing things you don't use. That debate (what is better for the individual than for the masses) has been going on since the 2nd DAW came into existence.

I've not checked it out but what does S1P's channel strip add-on look and act like? FWIW, I rarely use Pro Channel and I've been with Cake since PA4 (I only skipped V2 for some odd reason, but I bought V2 for my son, go figure).
