Intermittent VST operation

Hi all...
Ever since I upgraded my DAW PC (and also now using WIN 7) I have been plagued with a number of odd "happenings". One very irritating thing is when inserting a VST. Although everything looks OK on the screen and the I/O's are all set up the same each time, sometimes there is no audio out and no indication of it on my Behringer FCA1616. Using the edit function to remove the VST and then re-installing it, often then sorts it out.

Anyone had a similar experience? Is it worth installing HS6 again?

    Hi Tremor

I am still on XP / HS 7XL and do not use Behringer. So I cannot be specific about a solution. But it does sound to me as if you might have a driver problem. Worth having a look at these previous threads:

Are you using Windows 7 64 bit? I do know that some VSTs will only work properly in 32 bit and HomeStudio 6 may have some problems in 64 bit.

I believe Malcolmb is correct. it's most likely a driver problem.
Make sure you have the correct drivers for W7. Does the Behringer have its own drivers or does it use generic drivers provided by Windows? If you are using generic drivers, be sure to always start everything up in the same sequence. For some reason, non-device specific drivers seem to get easily misdirected. Also, be sure to start everything up before you open SHS6.
Have you updated the drivers for all of your other USB devices?

Open the Options>Audio dialogue. Make sure everything looks correct, and click OK.
This should re-establish communication between SHS and your interface. I've had to do this when I had a similar problem with the built-in Realtec. Sometimes it took 3 or 4 time before it settled down.
Running the Wave Profiler again may help. If you are using ASIO, you will need to switch to WDM first.
Try both WDM and ASIO drivers modes. While ASIO is generally considered to be best, I've seen reports of better performance with WDM in W7. This is system specific, so the only way to know for sure is to try it.

Re-installing SHS6 is probably overkill. You can delete the audio.ini file(in the Cakewalk programs folder).
The next time you start SHS6, it will build a new one.
That's about all I can think of. Hope it helps.

Hi Guys and many many thanks for the inputs. Benn unwell for a day or two so sorry not to reply sooner.

I'll certainly try all the suggestions. My Behringer is only a couple of weeks old and I did download the driver off the site the day I bought it.

I'll let you know how it goes, and thanks again for the support.
