I don't want to violate the TOS, so if I were to say that the Iranian government is being run by a pack of raving loons, would that be a political or a psychiatric observation?

Mass insanity always involves politics. But you could have used the word Moolah istead of loon and then it would have been religious.

It's 'Mullah'.

I grew up in Stuart, Florida where many F14s were fitted with avionics at the Grumman plant. When I was in grade school it was routine to see them take off nearly vertical as they cleared the tree line.

It must have been incredibly exciting to fly one.

The idea of landing on a carrier seems terrifying.

:-)

Have heard it compared to sex and a car wreck at the same time.  Yeah, like who among us hasn't had that happen....

I had the chance to go to Anapolis supposedly to fly F-14's.  I had all the aptitude requirements (physical and scholastic), with sponsorship from a famous commander and the governer of California.  Then I found out that there was a height limit and I was 6' 3"...  So I ended up attending local colleges in San Diego instead and, half-way thru my BSCIS, I found myself working for a defense contractor instead (at the ripe old age of 19).  The weird part is that this was right across the street from Miramar Naval Air Base where, of course, I got to watch someone else flying F-14's instead of me.  I had a base pass and, a couple of years later, found out that my cousin had been the base commander (I learned about that at his change of command ceremony when he "retired" to fly for Delta).  Oh well...

Having graduated from that institution, I can tell you it was the best of times, and the worst of times.  All in all, the good memries and friends have prevailed.  But, of course, graduation was only the first step on the road to flying Tomcats.  And actually, having gone there offered little advantage in getting the aircraft I wanted to fly.  Lots of work, and a fair amount of luck and timing.  I was at Miramar from 1974 through 1978, and have many, many memories from there.  I suspect I know your cousin.  Or not...

to Mr. N Norman:

took a quick look into an F16 cockpit once and it looked pretty complicated; :)

Anyway, pilots like you saved my butt on more than one occasion.
Never got to thank one personally..... so I'm thanking you.

Of course, you came close to killing me on a few also; but hey, nobodies perfect :)

Maybe not, he would have been there in the mid-to-late 80's (I worked across the street from '83 to '88).  His name was Captain Wes Weesner, primarily an E-2 Hawkeye pilot.  He was offered the rank of Admiral if he would stay in, but chose to fly for Delta instead.

It's 'Mullah'.

Yes, but if you spell it wrong it doesn't set off the CIA internet filters that watch for terms related to terrorism. Plus the double meaning, Moolah=$$$. Which is what the whole conflict is about anyway.

So you're equating 'Mullah' with 'terrorism'?

I give up - that's more shocking and offensive than the OP.

Maybe he should have said that all Mullahs except one are related to terrorism so that none of them are individually offended?
